ITT: The biggest what-ifs in sports history
>>77171188
>what if Federer played hockey?
I don't think it would be that great
Lindros is a bigger what if
What if the NBA was an actual parity league?
(This will never happen btw)
What if he was able to play that game?
>>77171188
What if Terrell Davis never got injured?
What if Bo Jackson never got injured?
These guys were very similar, both on an incredible tear with unique skillsets and physicality, then career ended in under 5 seasons.
If they could have played long careers we may be saying "Tomlinson who? Peterson who?" etc
What if LeBron played football?
>>77171188
Nah, Lemieux had his chance.
The biggest one in hockey is Vladimir Konstantinov. He came in strong second in Norris votes the year before he got paralyzed. He was pretty elite. Even Lidstrom didn't win his first Norris until 7 seven years.
>>77171258
what if his brain had lasted longer?
If he never was injured as much as he was
Ken Griffey Jr.
What if he took steroids?
If Gilbert arenas didn't bring his gum to work that day
>>77172793
This why the Leafs get treated like they do on /sp/.
what If your mom had aborted you and you never created this thread about sports what-If's?
>>77172793
What if America annexed Canada instead of Mexico
desu Crosby is kind of a what-if with all the concussions
Only a league like the NHL would not want to protect its superstars. And people wonder why it gets low ratings relative to other sports.
>>77172721
This desu probably among the greatest tragedies in sports
>>77172850
>wanting the NHL to be more like niggerhoop
>>77172827
Griffey on steroids wouldn't have been hurt as often and would have recovered more quickly. He could have been the greatest ever.
>>77172850
It's gets low ratings because 99% of the population never played, not that stupid shit.
>>77171385
TD was going to be the undisputed GOAT too
What if the Eagles flew the hobbits to Mordor?
What if Frank Gore had both of his original knees?
What if Shaun Livingston didn't btfo his knee?
What if Nick Collins didn't suffer a career-ending neck injury?
Tony Conigliaro: The Forgotten What-If Story
>>77172760
How come this does not get brought up when talking about JUST hairstyles?
>>77173771
Thats because he cut it specifically for his kids so they can see him on the pitch
What if Len Bias wasn't a nigger?
basically this whole team
>>77173906
I could see them getting to the conference finals regularly but not further than that.
>>77171258
Not a what if, at all. He had his chance and FAILED. We even got him to the finals and he fucking choked. Just because he didn't do it with your poverty team doesn't mean it didn't happen.
>>77171188
>Earnhardt could have a triple crown
>Jerome Brown could have a ring
>The entire city of Nashville
>>77171385
Bo Jackson was a legit Hall of Fame talent in baseball and football.
>>77172793
This is a legit question. Even if you forget about the strength he would have acquired, people say Junior would have hit 850+ home runs had it not been for injuries, and steroids would have prevented them or sped up his recovery.
>>77171372
Then it would be >7-2 rather than >7-1
what if there was no rain delay in Game 7 of the 2016 World Series?
>>77173904
>white people don't do coke
..........................................ok!
>>77174876
>being a cuck
>>77172850
Also they do, you mong. Crosby got away with some real shit in the finals.
>>77174876
Len Bias is a dumb rotten corpse and that's the end of it
What if the NBA hadn't rigged the 2002 WCF
>>77171188
biggest what if-
it did not fookin slip
I realize most people in this thread/board don't know about the real biggest what-if so here is some background.
These are his stats. +/- is a sort of goals on ice for/ goals on ice against. As you can see, he was a real defensive defenseman. In 95/96 he went +60 while only contributing directly to 34 goals. Think about that.
>>77175438
Detroit is a meme team and none of their golden age years count for shit or apply to similar teams.
Wouldn't be surprised to hear they boosted stats hard
>>77175473
How, by being fucking good? The Russian five were literal madmen.
>>77175438
lol who cares about hockey
>>77175438
>muh car crash
He was 30 that year. Bobby Orr entered the Hall of Fame at 31 because he was crippled by injuries
>In 95/96 he went +60 while only contributing directly to 34 goals. Think about that.
Yeah, it means he was fucking carried by his team.
>the team managed score 60 more goals than they allowed
>this guy only contributed to 34 goals
>clearly this means he defended so well that the other team was awarded negative 26 goals
Holy shit detoilet fans are stupid
What if the Bills won ((one)) owl during the 90s?
>>77175535
>>77175535
>any player who leads their team in certain stats is being carried, not carrying them
>falling for the offensive defenseman meme
>not realizing they only award a max of 3 points when goals are scored. (1 goal, 2 assists). But minuses are given to all five on the ice.
>only way the leaf's tiny mind could get around it is with negative goals.
>>77175601
I bet you think Jeff Schultz was an amazing defenceman because of his 2009-10 season where he was +50 with only 23 points
What if he hadn't converted that 4th and 8?
I still cry to this day when I think about it.
what if the greatest goalie of all timehad a life in the NHL?
>>77175658
>his grandson chose to be a goalie because his grandfather was the only old hockey player that had any teeth left
>>77175542
If they win the first one they lose at most one of the next three.
what if the NBA wasn't rigged?
>>77175654
I still laugh my fucking ass off
thank you Chris Conte you magnificent failure lol
It almost happened.
For those that don't know Ronaldinho was close to joining Man Utd from PSG in 02/03.
What if Wenger signed all those players he claimed being so close to doing?
>>77175220
Like what? He literally got another concussion while the culprits got a slap on the wrist. Don't be stupid.
I know from a source that Arsenal was £40000 away from signing Messi.
What if.
>>77177493
My Dutch team got offered both van Nistelrooy and Huntelaar. They rejected Huntelaar because he 'walked funny'.
>>77175438
>60+/-
This will never happen again. Only karlsson or josi could come close to this stat, and that's a stretch
What if dale hunter didn't kill turgeon and the islanders went on to the '93 final?
what if my lad didn't get punched in the head so often?
>>77179068
Gretzky would have beat the islanders again
>>77179058
Mostly because goal scoring is down and teams are spreading minutes out more than they used to. In the 80s Gretzky played 30 minutes a night
>>77174554
>Bo Jackson was a legit Hall of Fame talent in baseball
Fuck no. He was a decent player but was not remotely close to HoF. Go actually look at his numbers. He damn sure would have gone to Hall as a RB, though. Football may have just been a hobby for him but holy shit was he good at it.
>>77175613
To be fair he is pretty decent I think.
What if Rome didn't BTFO Horton in the 2011 SCF
>>77171188
What if the Sonics stayed in Seattle?
>>77175654
Cutlel would have won a Superb Owl
>>77179946
Maybe if he didn't break as many bats on his thigh he'd have better tendons. The only reason he got injured was because he was so strong in the first place.
>>77179058
Jeff Schultz had a +50 in 2009 with the Capitals, and he was one of the worst players I've ever seen
>>77182549
Worked out too much and didn't give his body proper time to rest. Happens to a lot of young athletes.
Raiders
what if they don't change their game plan and center doesn't got missing 2 days before the super bowl, also Bo Jackson injury
>>77175279
What a sad day that was.
What if buffalo didn't draft OJ?
>Maybe he wouldn't have even met Nicole, nevermind killed her
>Robert Kardashian wouldn't have had to represent him in the biggest trial of all time
>The kardashians would have never become semi-famous
>No one would have cared about kim, kyle, chloe, etc
>Keeping up with the kardashians would have never happened
>Caitlin might not have been sucked into the kardashian nonsense, and might still be Bruce
If the bills in 68 would have gotten 1 more TD against oakland, 1 more against the dolphins, and 1 more fg against the dolphins again when they tied them, literally the entire last 2, almost 3 decades would have been entirely different.
fucking buffalo
>>77182623
umm what, how was he one of the worst players ever?
Sure he didnt get many points at all, but he was pretty much the prototypical hardnosed, shutdown d-man you could rely on to put in hard minutes and not be a liability in your own end. You dont need to get 50+ pts a year to be an asset.
>>77179454
Gretsky's kings wouldn't have beaten the isles that year, but then again, turgeon was fine come that Montreal series. He wasn't playing completely healthy
>>77175158
I would rather be a cuck than a racist
>>77171188
What if James Naismith had decided that tossing a ball into a basket wasn't a worthwhile game?
Imagine a world without basketball.
I always think what if the Steelers drafted Pittsburgh native and University of Pitt star QB Dan Marino, like everyone expected, instead of passing on him and going with literally who DE Gabriel Rivera. They'd probably have 4 more Super Bowl rings with those stacked 90's teams that were only missing a decent QB, and Marino would hands-down be considered the GOAT.
>>77184904
All the black people who would have originally played basketball would have went to some other sport. My guess would be either baseball or soccer, mainly because hockey is an upper-class sport nowadays and football already has majority black players.
If they went into baseball, not much would change. Maybe the black and white segregation leagues would have been competitive with more black talent, but the only modern thing that would change is that there'd be less Japanese and Central American players.
If they went into soccer, the sport would be much bigger in America. America would be much more dominant in North America than Mexico, and would have a lot more glory in the World Cup than they do now
>>77184700
now thats a leafpost if ive ever seen one
>>77184994
Lemme see how LAC plays this season with a weak-as-fuck backcourt and then I'll get back to you.
>>77171385
>plays 2 sports
>gets injured
Gee, I wonder if he over trained at all. Recovery time is important.
>>77176951
>die
>come back through careful rehab
>retire the season you get drafted
I wanted him on the 9ers too...
>>77179271
You mean murdered by Scott Stevens?
What if Michael Jordan didn't fuck off to play minor league baseball?
What if mohamed Ali wasn't robbed of his prime years for refusing to go to vietnam?
What if OKC had not choked their 3-1 lead against the Warriors in 2016?
What if LeBron weren't born in Ohio?
>>77172892
I think you mean >handegg
That's the league with special rules to protect the most marketable players (QB's)
>>77187246
>What if OKC had not choked their 3-1 lead against the Warriors in 2016?
Thunder were 3/2 underdogs if that matchup in the Finals happened.
- If they won, I'm not quite sure what the Cavs would've done to fix things, but the finger probably would've pointed straight at LeGM and gotten Griffin fired a season earlier. Thunder probably stay as is if they won or pick up Harford to become even more undefeatable
- If Cavs won, I could see KD joining the Warriors and the rest of that team come back with a vengeance after blowing a historic season and eat most of the competition they face alive.
:^)
>What if LeBron weren't born in Ohio?
Fuck if I know, lol. If the Heat years played out like they did in this timeline, he probably ring chases with another East team that's not the Celtics or fucks the league up and joins the Spurs and the Cavs probably continue to be a dumpster fire instead of a slightly broken home.
>>77173618
Packers win another owl :(
>>77176959
What if the NBA wasn't nigged
What if the Oilers didn't blow a 3 goal lead in game 5?
What if Nashville had their goals called back in games 1 and 6 in the finals?
What if the capitals actually made it past the second round this year and in 2015
What if Vancouver won the cup in 2011?
What if the coyotes were sent to Seattle?
What if the islanders drafted Perry in 2003?
What if the hurricanes drafted Erik karlsson over Zach fucking boychuck?
What if Tampa selected doughty in the 2008 draft over stamkos?
>>77188182
>What if the coyotes were sent to Seattle?
that's still very much in play
>>77171188
the greatest what-if of our time
>>77188232
Then more endless bandwagoners in the states and claiming they "know" the seahawks
>>77173507
Sauron would have easily spotted them. All would have been lost.
>>77177439
