I'm not a Cubfag but I've always loved Wrigley Field.

The rooftop seats are pretty cool and unique. I also like how the stadium is located right in the neighborhood, like any other business or store. Most stadiums in the US are far out in the suburbs and surrounded by miles and miles of parking lots...seems so soulless and artificial.

Anyways Wrigley Field is pretty comfy. I lived in Wrigleyville and there's such a good buzz around the stadium on game days, especially last year. Cool to have people come from all over and take the train into the city to go to the game.

Then they "renovated" it (tore down everything but the facade and built a brand new stadium on top) to 61,000 seats, but now it's actually a pleasant place to watch a game.

The only reason the NFL stadiums obsess about them is because they don't share the revenue off of them. They share almost all regular ticket revenue so there's hardly any incentive to care about that.

This is why you always see so much emphasis put on luxury suites. Entire stadiums are tore down and built on taxpayer dime essentially so an owner can put another extra 100 luxury suites in.

NFL uses public bonds for stadiums which are repaid. The majority of NCAA football programs lose money and so the football programs are funded in a round about way when shit tier state schools cut funding for academic programs in order to subsidize their sports because they think it help build "prestige." That's money that was given to schools, directly by the state (taxpayers) either through student loans, scholarships, or direct funding that universities are pissing away on sports.

If it seems like I'm bitter it's because my retarded university nearly went bankrupt funding their ass football team which drew less than 50% attendance even though it was FREE for students.

This town does tend to ride the bandwagon a bit. But the Canucks will always be #1 in town, even when they're absolute shit like the last two years. And you're right, the Lions are shit that nobody under 40 cares about. In 5 years I think it'll be clear that the Whitecaps will have eclipsed them as the #2 team in town.

I think the main reason you never hear about the NBA returning is because Seattle is still there. Also, the Grizzlies poisoned the basketball well pretty good when they left. Although I feel like it's been long enough that there's an entire generation that didn't go through the Grizzlies saga who'd be ready to support a team. The city's a lot more diverse and there's a lot more money in the city today than in 1999.

For MLB the problem is we don't have a stadium. When it was built BC Place was designed for baseball, and I think they hosted a few exhibition games in the 80s. But after the new roof and renos I don't think they can do that anymore.
