getting the ball into the other side of the field and into the endzone. thats 6 points. after a touchdown, you get a chance for more points, either a kick for one point, or one more play for a riskier attempt at 2 points.

If you kick the ball in between the giant post, you get a field goal, which is 3 points.

>touchdown (6)
have a player catch or carry the ball to the end of opposing team's field, called the endzone
>field goal (3)
at any point when a team has possession of the ball, they can attempt to kick the ball between the other team's goalposts. Attempted when the team gets close enough, but runs out of attempts to move the ball forward (on 4th down).
>safety (2)
tackle a player holding the ball in their own end zone
>extra point (1) or (2)
opportunity given only after scoring a touchdown, the team which scored the touchdown has a choice whether to try and kick the ball through the goalpost for a single point from a short distance or to try to carry or pass the ball into the end zone in a single play from a short distance. most often, teams will pick the easy single point

Why do American handegg players wear Spandex?

>>77102687
It's 5 days max. There is no limit on overs so most batsmen try and stay in as long as possible and pick up points where they can instead of slogging I think. Fairly often it only lasts 4 or even 3 days but idk
>>
>>77102816
They wear tight clothing because it makes it more difficult for the opponents to grab on and hold them, which is a penalty but happens all the time on every play so its best to try and make it harder to do

if you wore a loose shirt they could just grab on to it and pull you down that way

the patriots went 18-1, they went undefeated (16-0) in the regular season, and then won 2 playoff games to get to the super bowl, and everyone was saying they were the best team of all time (only 1 other team ever went undefeated in the 70's) but the Pats choked in the superbowl and lost their undefeated season and their legacy as best team of all time

So wait a minute, does the NFL have leagues like the Premier League when you win based on the total of points a team earns? If so then didn't they win the thing anyway? And this superbowl is just like the Champions League then right? Or is the entire point of the league just to get in the superbowl which the patties lost? I mean it doesn't sound like that big a deal, like they went undefeated otherwise, that's like if I had the world's greatest main course but afterwards ordered a treacle sponge that came with ice-cream instead of custard, doesn't mean that the main course was any less impressive.
>>
>>77103356
there is almost no prestige for having the best record at the end of the regular season, there is only 1 champion and that is the team that wins the superbowl

so the entire season was basically a failure despite the fact that they dominated every other game except the last one
>>
>>77103385
>dominated
>were down against the fucking Eagles going into the 4th
just cause they won doesn't mean they dominated every game
>>
>>77103356
>total of points a team earns
we don't earn points like you guys do, mostly because we rarely tie.

the NFl works like this: there are 16 regular season games, one per week. There are 8 different divisions in the NFL (split into two conferences, the NFC, national football conference, and the AFC, american football conference) so there's an NFC North, NFC South, NFC East, NFC West, AFC North, AFC South, AFC West and AFC East. At the end of those 16 games the division leaders gain an entry to the postseason, along with two wild card teams (teams who didn't win their divisions but finished with the two best non division-winning records) in each conference that make the postseason. 12 teams in total make the postseason, the two leading division winners get a bye and don't have to play in the first round. The winners of the NFC postseason bracket and the AFC postseason bracket will meet in the Super Bowl.

Unlike European sockerball, the only thing that matters in the NFL is the postseason. We don't have Champions' leagues in addition to the EPL, there's only one trophy that matters
>>
>>77103356
the only reason it's a meme is because the patriots are the best team, if it was some average team going 18-1 people would have nothing but good things to say
>>
>>77103356
There is no 3-1-0 point system. The regular season record determines which teams make it to the play-offs. The play-offs are all single elimination games, like the CL. If a team has a perfect regular season record, but loses in the play-offs, they don't really win anything meaningful. Yeah, there's conference and division champions, but no one really gives a shit. Think of them as lower than the league cup and community shield.

It's pretty basic, but what are you specifically confused about.

- Offensive line (OL): consists of a center, two guards on either side him and two tackles outside of them. Usually in charge of blocking and protecting the quarterback and/or creating gaps for the ballcarrier to run through.
- Tight end (TE): plays on either side of, and directly next to, the tackles. Much more agile than any of the five OL men and can be used as a receiver, but can also block and protect like the OL.
- Defensive line (DL): consists of two tackles (who face the offensive guards) and ends (who face the offensive tackles). Their job is to tackle the ballcarrier.

4-2-3-1 allows the central attacking midfielder to drop into the midfield which makes it effectively 2 central midfielders in a 4-4-2 to 3 midfielders in a 4-2-3-1. Many 4231 look like 442 when defending with the wingers dropping into two rows of 4.

Why don't NFL players just lateral all the time? Or at least learn how to in a productive fashion?
>>
>>77110842
It would be highly ineffective. Successful lateral plays are incredibly rare, because, for the defense, it is so easy to break up a play of that kind, and offenses wouldn't be able to gain yards consistently to get a new set of downs, let alone scoring.
>>
>>77110842
laterals are a very risky play, NFL coaches are extremely conservative and risk averse.
a botched lateral has a very high chance of being recovered by the defense and a recovered fumble off of a botched lateral has a high chance of being returned.

it's why it is only used out of desperation or as a rare trick play.

The positions are historically separated by primarily height (shortest to highest) but also skill set
Guards typically play further from the basket where as forwards typically play closer to the basket
1/PG - point guard. calls the plays and runs the offense
2/SG - shooting guard. good at scoring, dribbling, passing, etc.
3/SF - small forward. a big man that has skills similar to a guard
4/PF - power forward. a big man with post (post means near the basket) moves and is expected to rebound well
5/C - center. the tallest guy on the team. not expected to shoot anything outside of 5 feet but you better rebound and block shots

No it won't because the prize for winning the euroleague, since this competition is now separated from FIBA and is funded by turkish airlines,is 700,000 Euros. That's not even the contract of the second best player in a mid-table Euroleague team.Plus,in NBA -aside from the huuuuge contracts- teams have their own charter flights, players stay in luxury hotels and have dedicated chefs catering to each ones diet. Those things don't happen in Euroleague, and travelling twice across the continent can be really exhausting, plus the fanbase is really smaller than that of the NBA.Actually, many europeans watch NBA but don't follow the Euroleague. But mostly it's about the money.

It came from Old English. Also means to boil something, now more commonly used to express a state of great anger. It's common in classic English literature.
