Périgueux > Bergerac (178km)
Another flat stage. Sprint finish is expected.
>>77054385
Happenings from the last stage:
Geraint Thomas (SKY, GC 2), Richie Porte (BMC, GC 5) and Rafał Majka (BOH, GC 10) are out. Porte probably till the end of a season with broken pelvis and collar bone.
Arnaud Démare massacred half of his own team, >Pinot left with four teammates.

>>77054677
The only outside obstacle that seems to stand between Kittel and another win is that pair of 90+ degree turns, but the last one is at 500 m, so that's probably enough time to make up any lost positions.
Can anyone stop this madman?
>>77054709
D-Demare will catch up !
>>77054716
Demare is still in Düsseldorf last I heard.
too bad the weather's gonna be shit, the Dordogne valley is gorgeous.
>>77054713
ez win for kittel.
I wonder what really happened to démare. French medias mentioned that he might have been sick buthe and his whole team denied, which is strange because it's an easy and plausible excuse.
The drugged skeleton won the tour again. Boring as fuck.

>>77054975
Maybe my post was a bit harsh, but most of Luxembourg's victories came from more than 50 years ago. Sure Frantz, Faber and Gaul won a lot, but that was ages ago.

I actually think Greipel will win, because Trentin is out of the race too

Will the greatest rider of our generation ever win a Tour again, or any GT?
;_;
I see the young Contador in Aru, there's still hope, though ._.
>>77055367
woah!
>>77055384
He is done. He has contract until 2018. I think he will retire.
Marc Soler could be a future GT winner. He is a strong climber.
Are any of the other teams going to want a sprint today? Quickstep should be the only team working for one.
FDJ, Bora, Dimension Data - they won't help now.
Cofidis and Lotto Soudal perhaps, but if they're sensible their best chances are from a break.
Has anyone managed to find the 2017 rulebook?
The 2016 one is here http://netstorage.lequipe.fr/ASO/cyclisme/le-tour/2016/reglement/TDF16_Reglement_BD.pdf but...

DiData could do it. After that close finish from Hagen, I'd say it's worth a try. Katusha still hasn't lost any riders, so they will work for Kristoff for certain. Sunweb could also try, since Matthews is closest to Kittel in points classification.

I miss this.. fuck Froome
>>77055500
4th in spanish national TT and 7th in the last TT in Tour de Suisse were he finished 8th overall.
His stage win in Route du sud was impressive even though the peloton was pretty weak. But he was sitting on the front and pulling for Quintana and then when he had killed everybody but one i think he got the go from Movi/Quintana to attack and go and take the stage. He's promising.
>>77055500
Froome was based last year though. Only thing that sucks is Skys budget. Which is hardly Froomes fault.

well-well, another contender.
Quintana is still 27.
Movistar also have Carapaz and Fernandez, and Roson joining them, and maybe Landa.
>i need someone who can pull all the opposition and then start a sprint way too early to finish
>say no more i know just the guy
>>77055482
>matthews
this guy got in the breakaway on a hardcore mountain stage to get the intermediate sprint points. His team will work for a sprint for sure.
Katusha will bring it too, and I think cofidis will go and try too since bouhani hates the fuck out of demare and will want a stage victory even more now that he's out (though kittel and matthews are 20X better than him)
A bunch sprint will just result in Kittel extending his lead in green though. If Matthews wants green they need to be more creative. If Kittel and Matthew both score 0 today, that's a win for Matthews.
Cycling teams are stupid though, so I expect to see all the teams helping Kittel to another win.
Formolo could become a real contender. Him and Villela and Bettiol are on Cannondale because they were merged into Garmin. I would imagine Formolo would leave and go to one of the "Italian" teams and get a serious push.
>>77055603
>>77055632
Sunweb is also a team that is happy to not work. They are lazy like Orica.
>>77055638

>>77055638
Can see Formolo being a fringe GT contender, but unless his ITT improves dramatically that's all he'll be. Top 5 at the Giro sort of thing. The Pozzovivo career, which is no bad career.

This.
Or maybe this is some fraternite thing showing how close knit the team is that they didn't want to leave a nice guy as Demare behind.

I agree. But it is a bit more intimate in cycling. They can sit and bants with each other and spend a lot of time very close. And it's hard just to ride in general so riders like to stay friendly while competing.
Also in the old days things was very controlled and almost staged at times by the leaders. so that mentality is still there. that basically they want to show the real man on man battle for the sponsors and fans rather than just win at all cost.

Hinault was better than Merckx.
Mercks record comes from having to race a fuckton to make a living, the sport changed dramatically during Hinaults reign and he could pick and choose races more. When he wanted to be in a race, he won it. The level of competition Hinault rode against was much higher than the majority of Merckx career. Hinault was dominant in his early 20s, Merckx wasn't.

It's funny that the same stations that hyped Armstrong the most and the Lance-is-cleane meme are the same that now are so butthurt they can't mention his name.

>greatest rider ever
He's an average rider who bullied his way to riches - riches which are about to be taken away from him when he's sued for $100 million this November.
He's been stripped from the history books and he's about to be stripped of his money.
I hope all the other people who he has ruined also sue him for damages (Greg LeMond, all the other riders and teammates he fucked over, David Walsh, etc.)

It's going to happen to Sky one day, I wouldn't be too belligerent about it. Even since Lance we've seen winners get their win taken away and it's not going to stop, people still dope.
He was a cheater who beat other cheaters, ignoring his on the course feats is just downright awkward.

That lawsuit is completly sillly and will not stick. Lance is not the greatest rider. but when it comes to Gts nobody is close to his level.

You are severely underrating what Merckx has done.
Merckx was a favorite to any GT, any TT and any flat stage/classic that was over 250km long. And he did race vs some of the best sprinters of all time. Not only that, he set the hour record that lasted for decades.
Hinauld comes close, but it's not quite the same.
>>77058716
>It's going to happen to Sky one day
No it isn't.
> ignoring his on the course feats
You mean like finishing the TdF just once, in the place of 36th? Hardly a "feat" is it?
>>77058722
>That lawsuit is completly sillly and will not stick.
And why is that? The US government RIGHTLY want damages repaid, after the USPS brand has been caught up in this story of lies and deceit. Not to mention the fact that L**** broke the commercial contract of the team.
The judge thought it was absurd to suggest that there were no damages to be paid, which is why he is pressing forward with the case. A jury will decide how much the damages should be.
>when it comes to Gts nobody is close to his level
A one-time finish of the TdF in 36th place? There must quite literally be hundreds of riders who have better GT records.
don't see how anyone could dispute merckx as the greatest desu, with the amount of things and variety in what he won
>>77058729
small climbers can do that though because it's more a physical gift. But if a TT guy has the right motor he can always learn/train to climb later.
the most important things about GTs is your stamina and recovery.

I saw Gilberts data for the peloton making it over a bunch of mountains in one stage and the guy rode at 250w up the mountains which is endurance pace for a guy like that and I don't think many elite amatuers would have any sort of trouble keeping that pace

The judge disagrees with you.
Below is what the judge said, but since it's TLDR, here are the two main points:
1) Anti-doping provisions in the contracts were "material" to USPS continuing the sponsorship
2) "Adverse effect on the Postal Service's revenues and brand value that may have resulted from the negative publicity surrounding the subsequent investigations of Armstrong's doping and his widely publicised confession"
>“Because the government has offered evidence that Armstrong withheld information about the team’s doping and use of (performance-enhancing drugs) and that the anti-doping provisions of the sponsorship agreements were material to USPS’s decision to continue the sponsorship and make payments under the agreements, the Court must deny Armstrong’s motion for summary judgment on this issue,” [Judge] Cooper wrote.
>“The Court concludes that the monetary amount of the benefits USPS received is not sufficiently quantifiable to keep any reasonable juror from finding that the agency suffered a net loss on the sponsorship, especially if one considers the adverse effect on the Postal Service’s revenues and brand value that may have resulted from the negative publicity surrounding the subsequent investigations of Armstrong’s doping and his widely publicized confession,” Cooper wrote. “Determination of damages must therefore be left to a jury. Accordingly, the Court declines to grant Armstrong summary judgment on damages and will set the case for trial.”

Look at Kittel time in the last stage and get me a elite amateur (let alone a pleb) that does that stage with averages way over 35km/h.

>I'm pretty sure he has tried to apologize to Greg.
No he hasn't, not in a genuine manner. I read an interview with LeMond's wife where she said that Jan Ullrich had called up Greg to get a beer together, and he apologised for his doping, and showed contrition for his actions.
Whereas Lance merely tried to call Greg on the DAY BEFORE his Oprah interview - when the last time they had spoke was when Lance called in 2001 (twelve years earlier) to threaten Greg after Greg had questioned whether Lance was doping.
From Greg's wife about that call:
>I don't know if you've talked to other people who have gotten that call. But [Armstrong] is crazy angry. He is screaming. He gets out of control. I mean, he threatens in a way ... he said to Greg that he would find 10 guys to come out and say that Greg had used EPO to win in his career. He was convinced that Greg could never have won clean. He was like, 'come on, you used EPO, everyone used EPO.' Greg said, 'I did not use EPO!' And he said he'd find 10 guys to say Greg did.
So apparently Greg didn't take that attempted call from Lance because, as is wife says: "we particularly didn't want to be manipulated because we knew that he was taping [with Oprah] the next day, and I really didn't want to hear on Oprah, 'Oh yes, I called Greg and Kathy and we're all good now.' That's impossible."

As I said - Lance attempted to phone him the day before he did his Oprah interview taping. That was it.
Whereas Jan Ullrich (a guy who had never tried to destroy LeMond in any personal capacity whatsoever - instead he was just a doper, and he knew that LeMond was a strong anti-doping advocate) offered to get a beer with LeMond, and he apologised for acting the way that he did.
Armstrong has never apologised for acting the way he did - he always maintains that it was justified. He's never showed any proper contrition for any of the people that he fucked over.
That interview I showed you - the guy writing the piece says that the LeMond bike brand would have been worth "tens of millions" if Lance hadn't pressured Trek into letting LeMond go.
So that's the thing. Ullrich offered to Greg to meet face-to-face, despite the fact that Ullrich never screwed over LeMond - his only crime was having doped. Armstrong was just attempting to phone Greg, out of the blue, the day before his Oprah taping. So presumably he wouldn't have had the time to meet face-to-face. Just a phone call. And like Greg's wife said, Lance was probably just making this call so that he could say to Oprah "look, I called Greg! Everything's okay now!"
>>77060277
>>77060307
The thing is though that not only is the champs sprint a classic. but you can have a TT the day or two days before and that will have its one hype. so there is no reason to put that in one stage. Now there has been three winners in 8 years so its has lost a little bit of the mystic. it used to be a bit random who won. Or somebody who had saved their legs could win.
Some sprinters would ride the whole tour and win nothing then take it on the last day.

like i said. From watching his mumbling on Eurosport i don't take his stories to serious. You'r obviously very salty about Lance so i will let you take your time to heal. One day you will accept that Lance dominated and won 7 in an era were the others had the same medicin and the same doctors.
I guess it's like snowflakes one day have to accept that trump won even if russia helped him a bit. it was all part of the game.

I am a Trump supporter.
Armstrong isn't a cyclist, he's a doper. He only won through doping. And he fucked over a guy who actually was one of the best cyclists of the last 30 years in the process.
You obviously aren't a cyclist or a cycling fan. You're just a cuck who likes taking other mens dicks in his ass.

I would tell you that nothing is certain until the third week but then I remembered that this parcours is shit and theres barely any stages left to make any difference.
>>77062781
All from Planche de Belle Fille, which was tailor-made for Aru. I'll just repeat that he looked plain better on the real mountain stage which should be a far better indicator of actual strength. We'll see. Aru (and/or the DS) doesn't seem to understand team tactics though, so that'll be fun.
