>wins the superbowl cup final over a coin toss
Why is this allowed?
>>
>>77037135
a coin toss is better than a tie or a minigame
>>
>>77037135
the falcons could have just played defense
>>
>>77037135

beats winning it off of a scoreless draw.
>>
>Still upset
Mustafa pls
>>
>>77037135
Ideally they'd do it the same as in college fb, with each team getting a chance to win.
Still beats the hell out of penalty shootout or "away goals," though.

>>77037135
Yeah, they should have declared the Falcons the winners because they scored the most first half points.
>>

>Still beats the hell out of penalty shootout

Penalty shootouts are the most exciting way to end a football match. I cannot fathom why plebs like you don't understand this.

Hell even ice hockey does shootouts.
>>
You're right. Houston is closer to Atlanta then New England, therefore New England should've been declared the winner in regulation via the road points rule.
>>
>>77042140
Ice hockey is like the least popular sport in America for this exact reason. It's a pussy way to end a game.
>>
>>77042140
Penalty shootout is a fucking mini game, a game of football is to decide which team is better, but then you go and put then in a completely different and separate game to do that?
>>
>>77042140
Benulties are ultimate trash tier.
>>
>>77042692
not really that separate is it considering that penalties happen in normal play
>>
>>77042140
Actually playoff hockey doesn't have shootouts. It was added to the regular season because the games are less important and it's a way to end them quickly.

It's exciting but doesn't determine the best team, because it's unrelated to the actual game they were playing
>>
>>77042140
>basketball game tied at end of regulation
>play knockout to determine winner
Makes no fucking sense. The irony is soccerfags go on and on about the tradition and shit and say that's why they can't add film review or change any of the rules, when in fact the penalty shootout is a total bastardization of the way the game was actually played originally. They should just do what hockey does and go to 7 a side or something like that. Would be bonkers.
>>
>>77042140
Maybe so but shoot outs are not how the game is played. The game requires team work and passing. Kicking the ball at the practically defenseless goalie does not determine the better team.
>>
>>77042140
Ice Hockey doesn't do shootouts in the playoffs, i.e relevant games you stupid foreigner.
>>
>>77042873
it determines which players have nerve, technique, fitness, desire to win, and most of all, balls.
>>
>>77042977
You mean 75% of it is luck depending on which way the keeper goes and 25% is the nerves of a player missing the goal
>>
If you can't win it in regulation you become the coins bitch.
>>
>wins the World Cup on a missed PK
Why is this allowed?

There was a change to the NFL rules in recent years regarding overtime. Prior to the change, the 1st team to score won. Often, the team that won the toss would win on that 1st drive. In fact, Tom Brady was probably a big reason the rule was changed, as his record in OTs over the years was insane - often winning on a FG with the other team never having a possession in OT.

Now, if the team that receives the kickoff gets a FG on that drive, the other team has a chance to match or beat that with a drive of their own. The only way a team can win without the other team having a possession is if they they score a touchdown on the opening drive. As Brady and the Pats did. Time and time again over the years the NFL has specifically changed rules because of Brady and the Pats, and they just win anyway.
>>
>>77043006
2bh it's pretty hard to shoot a penalty kick, or pretty easy to fuck it up if you prefer
>>
>>77037135
>that pic
wtf /pol/ told me the patriots were the white master race team
>>
>>77044218
That's a dumb fucking rule. Why not allow the other team to match the TD? It's only fair. Why only give a chance to match the score with a field goal?
>>
>>77042140
Yes. Football games should be decided by having the kickers line up for field goals
>>
>>77045344
>Why not allow the other team to match the TD?
Because it's way harder to score a TD than a FG. If they both score a TD then the only way after each of them win is to just kick a field goal; nullifying the first effort and just basically sending the game back to before the rule was implemented.
>>
>>77044218
They changed it after the Saints beat the Vikings in an extremely suspicious NFC championship game and with a garbage OT field goal on a drive rife with "penalties"
Not that I'm bitter or anything.
>>
>>77044218
>Tom Brady was probably a big reason the rule was changed
>this victim complex
Haha holy shit the delusion of the Pats bandwagon knows no bounds. Brady has been the most protected QB in the league for a good decade and a half. The NFL only benefits from him winning as much as possible since he's been the face of the league. It hilarious that you micks will eat up whatever narrative the local talking heads feed you.
>>
>>77045344
Because defence is a part of the sport. If you can't stop a team from marching into your end zone, you lose. Why is this hard to understand?
>>
>>77041988
The falcons had plenty of chances to win. They failed to score on 4 consecutive possessions. Even then if they wanted a chance to win in OT all they had to do was keep the Patriots out of the end zone for 1 posession. They didn't deserve another chance.

dead-eye rodgers putting his balls on jewdell's face. fuck the NFL.
>>
>>77042873
Exactly, it does not determine the best team, as they are equal since it ended in a draw.

It's hell of a lot better and more exciting than a simple coin toss.
>>
>>77045650
>'Brady is the most protected player in the NFL'
>NFL conducts a literal witch hunt on Tom Brady with no actual evidence of a minor equipment violation and forces 4 game suspension in order to appease crybaby team owners who are ass mad that the Patriots keep beating their teams
>you somehow being able to reconcile what you think with the reality of the situation

How do some of you retards manage make it passed elementary school without choking to death on rocks or falling out of windows?
>>
>>77042140
It's an artificial outcome though. It's not soccer at that point, it's something entirely different. A mini game skills competition.

To be fair to soccer, it has the hardest way of dealing with tie games vs. any of our sports due to the lack of scoring. One player should be taken off the field every however minutes. Still a meme finish to some extent but at least you're still playing soccer to decide the game.

>>77037135
Don't know now because the overtime rules have changed a bit and offense has gotten more successful but at one point the team that won the coin toss actually only won 48% of the time. The reason is on a kickoff on average you start with somewhat poor field position and if you stop them on defense immediately and get an average punt, you will have decent field position and all you need is a fg at that point and with kickers ranges, it doesn't take much.
>>
>>77044218
The reason they changed it(don't agree with how they did it though) is that until recently, it didn't matter if you won the coin toss, it was split 50/50 who won because while you got the ball first, you get poor field position because of getting the ball off a kickoff.

Kickers have gotten a fuckton better though and this skewed it to teams winning more often because they didn't have to do anything more than go ~30-40 yes to win, vs ~40-50 yds
>>
2nd team going in college has the huge advantage of knowing whether or not it's 4 down territory which is massive, not sure why you idiots bitching about the coin toss don't ever bring that up
>>
>>77047498
This literally has 0 bearing on the quality of the OT rules themselves.
