Here are Lotto Soudal manager Marc Sergeant's full quotes to Eurosport
“I asked André. He was quite pissed by the attitude of Sagan, making some moves which he shouldn’t make. Yesterday it was the same thing in the intermediate sprint, he gave an elbow to André and he was a little bit pissed yesterday already. Twice in a row is too much. Greipel was saying, ‘He isn’t my friend anymore from now on.’ That was 20 metres past the finish line.”

I wonder if Sagan can appeal this successfully. His crime was "Deviation of line; endangering others" or something like that. In the UCI handbook 1st time offenses are getting sent to the back and losing any points gained on the stage. His infraction wasn't listed as an "Act of violence", which warrants a dismissal.

Oh who am i kidding UCI is like NASCAR. Making shit up as it goes.

Ok. It was his first time infraction. The first punishment applies in that case. Sent to the back of the peloton. They didn't call it an act of violence.

Ok endangerment is like manslaughter. "Act of violence" is like murder. I don't think Sagan intended to drive cav into the barricade. Hell, that evil looking elbow never made contact. Cav was under it. Nevertheless his path fucked up cav. He's getting the death penalty for a case that should have gotten a prison sentence.

Desu anyone who says you can't control your sprint line shouldn't be allowed to start in a professional bike race.

I'm glad that Sagan got punished for his antics. He did the same shit with Greiplel yesterday on the intermediate sprint but that didn't end up causing a crash. Sagan became too big and thought he's untouchable and can do whatever he wants. Full on DQ might have been a bit harsh but he certainly deserved a punishment of some sort.

Cyclists are the biggest fucking wankers on the planet

I remember we were kids and my mom took us to KFC for lunch. There was a cyclist stopped in the middle of the parking lot trying to fix a chain or something. My mom tried to drive around him but he started screeching like a animal and we had to wait.

Went through the drive thru and got our food. My cousin got a large mountain dew. As we were driving home we saw the same cyclist pedalling along the road. When we passed him my cousin rolled down the window and threw the entire cup of dew right in his face. We started peddling hard to catch up but we left him in the dust wiping his eyes and screaming.

I think we were like 10 years old

Anyway fuck cyclists

Most pro's/ex-pro's feel it was too harsh. Most of them are between "Sagan did nothing wrong" and "Sagan should just lose today's result but stay in the race"

That might be true. but he still moved from his line and into Cavs. Cav touches Sagan when he couldn't move any futher and Sagan responds with a elbow.

he didn't talk about it, but from the video it looks plausible that he threw up the elbow to balance himself, not to hit Cav

>Cav touches Sagan when he couldn't move any futher
this was clearly Cav's fault

I don't know that much about cycling and all, but if you ask me, he shouldn't be punished so harshly. They punished him as if he punched the guy in his face when he barely touched him.

But Sagan's reaction is far too much

Yes you can understand that reaction in the heat of the moment though

Sagan should be punished but a DSQ is too much

Demare is moving up through the pack

You can't deviate from your line but that is a bunch of bullshit because how else are you to maneuver around slower sprinters?

The 'deviation from your line' is there to prohibit blocking

Demare is maneuvering to move up, not to block.
Sagan is maneuvering to block.

Demare did nothing wrong. Bouhani is a faggot.

I never said he did anything wrong. I don't think he did anything wrong.

>Kick out the most entertaining rider on flat/hilly stages

You can argue about who had the line first but in the end it's Cavendish in a really bad spot the entire time and he forces himself into an even worse one all on his own. Cavendish initiates contact with Sagan, starts falling, then Sagan puts his elbow out which never actually makes contact with Cavendish.

DQ is insane for what actually happened, I feel like they are judging this on on a made up version of events rather than watching in slow mo and seeing what really took place. IF you want to punish then it would have to be entirely based on who you think had the line, the crash was 100% Cavendish and the elbow was entirely cosmetic.

You, like the race organizers, are retarded.

Cavendish initiates contact and immediately loses control of his bike, you can see it quickly bounce out from under him to his left, our right, and nearly collide with Sagans bike. When this happens he begins falling into the barrier and Sagan extends his elbow infront of Cavendish if anything barely brushing his cheek. Once Cavendish touched Sagan it was all over for him, there was no stopping his fall into the barrier and Sagan is in no way responsible for that taking place. Cavendish crashed himself and Sagan did nothing to cause it, the only thing you could maybe complain about is Sagan taking the line but even that is up for debate as both were going for it at the same time and Sagan was a wheel ahead of Cav.

My only thought is that it has something to do with this >>76934866, a French rider wins the stage and has the green jersey.
>>
>>76935077

I should also add that Sagan cannot follow Demare as he dangerously swerves across lanes, making contact with Bouhanni and nearly causing a massive pileup of his own, and has to follow that line straight forward as he does.

No seriously watch that again and explain to me why Demare isn't penalized for his movement too, it's a miracle Bouhanni pulled his front tire away and didn't fall.
>>
Peter Sagan is the second coming of Jesus Christ.
>>
>>76935077
You write all this without knowing the rules of sprinting. Your supposed to sprint in a line. Sagan moved to take Demares wheel and left his line and forced Cav to the barrier until Cav ran out of space. that's why he leaned on Sagan. This is what he was DQ'ed for.
You can't see that on a slow motion video that starts 0.1 second before the crash.
>>
>>76935204

Why isn't Demare DQ'd for swerving across 4 lines and making contact with another rider? Both Sagan and Cav were going for the same line, Sagan got there first and Cav instead of conceding decided to shoulder into him and caused his own crash.

DQ isn't the appropriate punishment for forcing someone out of their line either.
>>
>>76935248
>why doesn't a French sprinter get thrown out at the Tour de France

Sagan left his line and pushed another rider into the barrier. Demare was going the only way he could and pouhanni had space and could hve moved a little bit. but yes demare was a little reckless there.

I think that when Cav hooked his handlebar on Sagan's elbow as he tried to pass, he lost the ability to steer to the right. The snagged handlebar hooked him to the left a bit, and unable to correct, he started falling down to the right. At this point Sagan lifted his elbow to get free of Cav's handle bar, but Cav had fallen too far down to catch himself at that point.

/sidf
>>
>>76935248
Demare didn't get DQd because he did his swerving in open space and didn't cause any crashes. He also did his line changes after overtaking Bouhanni to get an open line. Was Demare still slightly reckless, yeah however he didn't cause crashes so he gets a free pass. Also Cav and Sagan weren't going for the same line. Cav already had that line and Demare's wheel. Sagan tried to jump into Demare's wheel when Cav already was there forcing Cav into the barriers.

I'm pretty sure most people agree that the DQ was rather harsh but there is absolutely no doubt about the fact that Sagan was at fault and deserved punishment of some sort. We could debate wether losing points and being thrown to the back of the peloton would've been better punishment but that's just speculation as the jury has made their decision.
>>
>>76936973

>Demare didn't cause a crash

You seem to have missed the fact that he tangled wheels with Bouhanni, if he hadn't of saved himself just barely he would have gone down and created an even bigger wreck than Cav going down. The most dangerous maneuver in the finishing sprint was what Demare did by a mile. Funnily enough if Cav hadn't of taken himself out and managed to push Sagan the DemarexBouhanni incident would have sent Bouhanni swerving into Sagan and caused a crash in all likelihood.

Going by the rules and being a stickler should have seen both Sagan and Demare sent to the back of the group and punished that way, they are just playing favorites.

It's funny he clips him to get in the line that he started his sprint in. could it be that all these slow fuckhead were moving to the right?
kristoff is on the left of the middle white line yet demare has to leave the barrier to avoid him.
also notice that Cav has Demare's wheel while Demare is on Sagan's wheel yet somehow Once-a-years think it was Cav that "tried to move into a gap that wasn't there".

Can we not just agree that modern sprints are hectic as fuck with everyone swerving around and riding dangerously? This sprint was nothing out of the ordinary, the only difference was that some dudes crashed. Jury is just trying to be sensationalist by banning 2agan. Changing lanes is literally the most obvious thing to do during sprints and for all of the riders combined it happens dozens of times over the course of less than a minute of every stage finish. You couldn't argue if the rule was phrased like "changing lanes that causes other riders' harm is prohibited", but simply saying that changing lanes is not allowed and taking UCI rules seriously doesn't really go hand in hand, as they would have to ban all of the sprinters or make finishes 3 times wider plus expect no one to draft.

The way the rule is phrased is just a tool to ban the riders they don't want in the peleton, it has no merit at all.
