Seriously, each trade following the Allen and Garnett trade from the Twolves has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the death of Fab Melo, the Celtics only consistency has been its lack of free agent signings and ineffective use of assets, all to make possible impossible, to make team chemistry seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Ainge vetoed the idea of drafting Markelle Fultz; he made sure the franchise would never be mistaken for a seriously contending team that meant anything in the playoffs? Just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for his son's political career. The Boston Celtics might be anti-rebuilding (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-Process in its refusal of scouting, drafting and obtaining generational talent. No one wants to face that fact. They could move Crowder but he has greater value in a package deal than he does on his own so they're not going to get good return on their value. If they want to add a superstar via trade, this is going to hurt them.
The cap will likely come down again next year so signing a max guy now will greatly reduce their chances of adding this unicorn they've been chasing after all this time. They would have to make a preceding move to get rid of Avery Bradley so that limits their ability to make a deal.
Plus they are already Eastern Conference finalists in a conference that has only gotten weaker except for Cleveland, who they demonstrably can't compete with. Hayward doesn't close the gap so why hamstring yourself?

Shorter players simply can't become a decent center or power forward.

You can be a faster accelerating sprinter than Maurice Green, have more endurance than Mo Farah, be able to change directions faster than Messi, have a better vertical leap than an olympic weight lifter and be the most skilled on the court but if you're 5'6 you will never be a center.
He could be a point guard, but even for a "small" forward he'd be too small.
