No SAFER barrier at Road courses, too expensive and not clear as to how fast someone might hit the barrier.
SAFER can potentially make an accident worse if the wall is set at a certain stiffness.

Maybe don't go 2 wide into that corner

That's like going 2-wide into 130R or Eau Rouge and being surprised you end up in the wall. It's double retarded because if you can follow a car through this corner close enough, you have a long straight right after and basically guaranteed to pass because of the slipstream.

>>76769224
>You may not enjoy them

I actually like oval races because they're different to 99% of the racing I watch, which is all AU/EU based circuit racing.

>>

damn right LeMans was comfy as fuck
makes these 2 hour racelet races seem so short though
>>
>>76771845
>>76772096
For real. I've been deflated since Le Mans. 2 hours of racing isn't even a challenge.
>>
>>76772470
if one were to enter an IndyCar in LeMans, how long would the car last before retiring? how durable are they?
>>
>>76772534
(assuming they found a way to quickly change drivers like sports cars do)
>>
>>76772534
The engines just wouldn't last I don't think.
While required to last 2500 miles, they wouldn't make it past 2/3 race distance at best since an Indycar could probably turn in 400+ laps during the 24 hour period.
Those 2500 miles the Indycar manufacturer engines are required to last are not continuous either.
>>
so how long until the race gets uploaded to the interwebs?

What the fuck was Rossi thinking, motherfucking cocksucker already had a broken front wing and had no business defending the racing line from Tony. Alex blocked Kanaan's pass and chopped off his wing leading to a crash that could have killed Tony. I'm not being serious at all while typing this, Tony's at fault.

I agree, but they kind of have a "been there, done that" attitude.

They won the Indy 500 during the IRL years and got burned by CART when the sanctioning body was making executive decisions without unanimous consent from Manufacturers.
They're kind of like Ford when it comes to their stance on Indycar right now.

Costs.
They're happy providing smaller series with the ability to compete, however; their Prototype car that is running IMSA cost them a hell of a lot to develop, Cadillac is also kind of buttfucking them there.

The crossovers were a lot more feasible in the 90's when testing was basically unlimited.

Give any driver, top tier Indy or F1 enough seat time(in a competitive car) before the season starts and they could do well.
>>
>>76778483
Yeah but look at how many F1 drivers have come and gone without accomplishing anything. Nigel was fucking good but that kind of talent isn't really around these days.

It just doesn't cross disciplines.
See the above post about testing.
>>
>>76778583
>that kind of talent isn't really around these days

yes it is.
it's just not allowed to thrive with all the various series's regulations and limits on testing. also the politics that come with it

I think Alonso could be IndyCar champion and Scott Dixon could be F1 champion if circumstances were like they were in the 80's and 90's.

these days you kind of have to pick a series from when you're a little boy karting and stick with it to be successful.
>>
>>76778643

>>76778714
I think someone could get a shot if they came in and immediately started winning like JPM, but chances are we don't see another one like him for a while. I also think that drivers earn a very comfortable living and going to f1 would be a major career risk nowadays, especially since it would likely be with a backmarker team

dislike Kanaan because he needs to retire and the fiasco at Texas

dislike Kimball because his entire career is a fiasco

but I'm neutral on Max at least he doesn't cause trouble
>>
>>76779639
also Max will probably get his first win before Connor does and before Marco gets another
>>
>>76779639
This really was Dixon's first win this year.
He's just a consistent, persistant SoB.

We've had 8 different winners in 10 races, only Will Power and Graham Rahal have double dipped.
>>
>>76779662
yeah, Dixon is super consistent with the top 5 and podium finishes, that's why he's leading the championship with only one win. he will retire as one of the all time greats. but it doesn't mean I have to like it.
>>
>>76779660
We'll yeah, Conor would have to (Irish)luck into/ be gifted a win.
It is worth noting that while Conor's drives, especially on ovals, have been shit, there did seem to be something wrong with the car this weekend. The team apparently were as trimmed out as they could go and were still behind on speed in the straights.
The No. 4 team is also operating out of Indy and is their first time together properly because it was hard to find staff who would stay during the offseason down in Texas. The no. 14 has the main crew.

Daly also called Gutierrez a "fucking idiot" or something to that effect today over the radio which was worth a laugh.
>>
>>76779684
>there did seem to be something wrong with the car this weekend.

there's always something wrong with the car, he drives for Foyt.

he should have stayed on Coyne, but either Dale kicked him out or he didn't have the money.
>>
>>76779696
I followed Conor's "adventures" in the off season.
Conor was pretty sure he still had a ride, would have been in Ed Jones seat, but to find the upgrades Dale wanted to his suspension package and engineering staff, he needed funding. Then when KV Racing didn't return and Bourdais was out of a ride, Bourdais took Conor's old no 1 seat.
With no where else to go and his prior connections to the Foyt team, he chose the only seat available and there were question marks as to whether he would even land that ride.

I'm going back and watching all the various press conferences for this race.
and holy motherfucking shit is Josef Newgarden antsy at press conferences. he can't sit still.
also it's funny to see the other 2 Penske drivers joking around, looking at their phones while one answers a question.

also Graham Rahal can come across as a dick sometimes but his brutal honesty is somewhat refreshing.

They'll probably run a McLaren Badged car in the Indy 500 again next year.
The press response was very good, but I'm sure McLaren's Board of Directors ordered a post-study on it to see if it had enough of an impact to justify the costs.
They'll use an aggregate of worldwide eyeballs, economic impact, editorial impact, and weigh that against the fact that Alonso will almost certainly not be entering next year, or any year until he retires in the next 3 years.
Alonso made a big impact, McLaren was kind of a footnote compared to the fact Alonso was leaving Monaco to race the Indianapolis 500.

I still suspect they'll be back in 2018, just with a different driver. Bruce himself would have been pleased.
Got one more alternate livery, these are based on the renders from March, not the updated renders we got in May.

This is kind of where I'm at, although I wish they'd drop Texas and bring back the Milwaukee Mile.

>>76805341
>Rather have an oval than a street course.
I kind of agree with this, too.

I don't mind the street races they currently have, but they don't need any more of them. I'd much prefer it if they'd bring back classic venues like Portland instead of adding more street circuits.

In my ideal universe, they'd also bring back the Pike's Peak Hillclimb (would obviously require different cars, though).
>>
>>76804972
Big ovals > road courses > small ovals >street circuits
But honestly if a race is gonna meme up itself its gonna happen anywhere.
>>
>>76806296
>Big ovals > road courses > small ovals >street circuits
That's a gross oversimplification, IMO.

There are some really good small ovals. At its best, the Milwaukee Mile was far, far better than any of the 1.5 mile tracks like Las Vegas and Kentucky, and every bit as entertaining as Michigan or Pocono, IMO. And I'll take Watkins Glen ahead of every other venue on the calendar other than Indy itself.

I'll generally agree with you about street circuits, though: those are very hard to get right, at least in North America. In Europe, where the streets are narrower, you can get gems like Monaco, but most American cities don't have enough character to pull it off.
>>
>>76806695
I don't even like Monaco frankly.(Mind you I'm not a huge fan of Long Beach either for the same reasons, but I understand the significance)
Pretty scenery, but the streets are so narrow and the race isn't generally worth watching.
Qualifying is a blast though.

If we have to do street circuits then they need to be like São Paulo or Cleveland(a big fucking airport runway where everywhere is a passing opportunity).

The problem with recent Monaco, IMO, is not that the streets are too narrow, but that modern F1 cars are too wide (and too long). Monaco was spectacular in the '50s and '60s, when the cars were much smaller.

>where everywhere is a passing opportunity
For that, you really just need Milwaukee. When you make road/street circuits so wide that you can pass anywhere, they tend to lose the things that make them distinct from ovals.

Short ovals are a blast.
