Sub-Scotland these days. Absolutely shocking. It's not even a talent thing (despite so many foreigners in the league), they have insane talent across their backlines - just zero cohesion or desire.

They can only play well in France, when their own fans don't boo them.

Whereas SA seem to have replaced Ireland as the foremost pashun-babby team.

They barely even do that. Their victory over Rob Howley's Wales was as pitiful as they come.

It's weird to think that France in Paris used to be the big one everybody wanted to win. Now we turn up being disappointed if we don't hammer them.

the attacking plan actually worked. In terms of metres per carry, linebreaks and gainline success the stats either favour the lions or are roughly even. We just didn't get anywhere near enough possession or execute well enough to make it count. If there had been even one more support runner in three or four chances they would have been scored.

Romania 56-5 Brazil

A new parameter to Brazil seek. Brazil is losing away by countries like US of A and Romania by 50 more or less. I predict two or three years to difference to go down consistently if current work by brazilian RU confederation continues.

http://www.bbc.com/news/business-31924309

Well, not that likely, but I do think 6 groups of 4 would be a strong consideration for 2023.

The current iteration has 48 matches, while 6 groups of 4 has 52 matches.
>>
Is there anything worse than cocky white S*ffers?

>>
>>76740276
Even with an expansion you'll likely still have to overtake two of those three teams.

Well you can always bid to be hosts for 2027.
>>
>>76740443
>12 top 2 finishes
would only work if you do the fucking retarded 'best runners up' thing, which favours teams in shithouse groups
>>
>>76740524
Chile - Only thing who lacks for Brazil is beat Chile away
Uruguay - The gap is getting close even with they having some pros. Brazil lost by 14 away in WCQ match
Canada - Looks stagnated, even with your pros. Also they have lots of internal problems
>>
>>76740585
Best 3rd placed teams you mean? If they want to expand, they can't jump straight from 20 to 32. They'll need an intermediate. 24 is a good number, but compared to alternatives like 4 groups of 6 or 8 groups of 3, I think 6 groups of 4 has the fewest drawbacks.

Or you could go like the 1982 FIFA World Cup did. But then there's a reason why it was only used for one tournament.
>>
>>76740701
I can imagine 6 groups of 4, but with possibility of qualifying 16 for eighter finals or only 8 for quarter finals like in old Heineken Cup.
>>
>>76740755
RO16 is the most likely. I don't think they'll go straight to quarters like the old Heineken Cup.
>>
>>76740701
No, I mean only two second place teams get through.
I'm sorry, 6 groups of 4 just isn't workable
>>
>>76740804
If they do make 6 groups of 4, I don't think they'll make it like that.
>>
The current 24th ranked team is Hong Kong. They'd lose by 100+ to nearly all tier 1 teams. Probably 150 to the ABs. It's just pointless.
>>
O'Mahony made 3 (Three) metres against the all blacks
>>
>>76740826
That's why they aren't implementing it for 2019 right?

Besides, if the current tier 2 teams are of any indication, they'll need to be tossed around like a ragdoll for a couple decades or so first before they can do shit like upset South Africa.
>>

You need good pilferers. The current Lions starting XV has half a decent pilferer in SOB and that's it. Successful teams have players across the 23 that are capable over the ball
>>
Here for based Adron, based DTH and based BBC prop.
>>
>>76741297

Yes you're right, the reason we always lose to New Zealand is because of Warburton.

Nothing to do with our shit front 5. No it's Warburton. So lets pick blue hat and SOB because they have cool YouTube highlight reels and go back to trying to win the game with 30% possession.

In fairness, the only reason we didn't get totally BTFO in the 6N was Warburton. Regularly 20+ tackles a game and 7 or 8 turnovers across the tournament. Tipuric put up similar tackle stats and was just about our best centre as well

Farrell might be the most overrated English player ever. And that's saying something from a country that capped Leslie the Volcano Vainokolo or whatever the fuck he was called.

Farrell is a perfectly serviceable consistent fly half with low error count. He's decent enough but the media talk him up like he's the new Wilkinson, which he isn't.

He's the English Biggar. Both have very similar skill sets and abilities.
>>
bravo canada
>>
>>76741525
The difference is that Farrell looks really good against shithouse opposition but melts under pressure at test level (at 10 anyway). Biggar looks bad against poor opposition but raises his game for big matches. He's much more of a mongrel than Faz as well

Obviously the Lions need to change things up for the second test, so here's my recommendations. In the forwards, George, Itoje and Kruis need to play together as one unit, like they do for Sarries and England. I'd keep O'Mahony as he's an experienced captain and good lineout option, alongside the other two in the back row as they've played well as a unit. Sinckler showed more off the bench than Furlong did in all his time, so I'd start him.

As for the backs, the defence was walked over, so I'd bring in Payne given his main strength is his defensive game I'd also bring in Henshaw given he's experienced alongside Payne, and both of them have beaten the All Blacks before. There's now way Williams or Davies is being dropped though so I'd take out Te'o and Daly. I know Farrell was poor, but I'd keep him and Murray as half-backs.

On the bench, Sexton can fuck off. His only noticeable contribution was throwing the ball straight into touch in the All Blacks' 22. Biggar in. Him and Webb play together for club and country already so they'll be ready to go straight off the bench. Only Itoje had any real impact off the bench, so I'd put Henderson and Stander there, given they're both good carriers that cover multiple positions. I'd have Daly at 23 rather than Halfpenny given he covers more positions and between Daly, Farrell and Biggar, there are enough kickers.

Hopefully, if the Lions make all these changes, tighten up their defence and take all the opportunities that come their way, they might come within 10 points of the All Blacks.

So if Smith is out we're going to have an Ioane/SBW/ALB/Naholo/Dagg backline for the ABs I guess.

Dunno who will get the 23 jersey - Goodhue or McKenzie. Both had poor games against the Lions.
>>
>>76748156
jordie will probably get the 23 since he can cover more positions than memekenzie
>>
>>76748354
This, he can cover every back position. Have Soap as the other reserve back and then you can move favorable bounce man everywhere as well so with 2 players can cover every position twice.
>>
>>76746338
I was hoping Ben Lam would get a run over Goosen.
>>
>>76743636
They're not in the doldrums really
- Scotland have improved, but have no depth. They were only missing like four lads to the Lions, but rested another six, which tested their depth to breaking point.
- France are indeed dog shit. Meme coach, relying on meme tactics, using a bunch of meme coconuts and Scott Spedding
- Italy haven't been good since the 90s. O'Shea as DoR should improve them though.
- Ireland are probably better than they've been for like 30 years, given they have depth in nearly every position and actually go into games expecting rather than hoping for results
- Wales have probably fallen back from their peak under Gatland around 2012
- England are as good as they've been since 2003, and if Jones is serious about his 4 year plan they'll keep getting better

That's two teams who've gotten worse, one who've remained shit and three who're on the right path

I didn't say they played well as a unit against the All Blacks, but they've played well together on tour before this. Also, the lineout thing is not a meme. Ireland's lineout is twice as good with O'Mahony there, so I don't want to see if the same thing happens with the Lions. They're already struggling in lots of other areas. Tipuric and Warburton are both very good lineout operators and totally shafted the Irish lineout in the 6N (admittedly without POM). Warburton is at his best a far superior defensive player to either of them and is far better at slowing down/turning over opposition ball.
I like POM and think he's a very good player, but aside from the lineout 90% of his offering is pashun and not much else

Put him in the second row if you want but starting him at blindside is fucking madness. In form Warburton is easily capable of 20+ tackles a game and has the strongest breakdown presence of anyone in the squad. In the 6N he shat on all the other back rowers in terms of turnovers

>For what?

Well considering ICE MAN (tm) can't kick for shit anymore that's a big reason.

Missing that simple conversion actually fucked us. With 15 minutes to go the Lions get a lineout 5 metres out. Unfortunately we were 15 points down so the game was unwinnable by that point.

Had the useless English shit scored the conversion we're within 2 converted scores and the complexion of the game changes completely.
>>
>>76770732
You're a complete idiot if you think that 2 points had any effect on the game.

Maybe in terms of big name players in the backline, but this All Black tight 5 is probably their best ever. A past All Black side would not have been able to dominate these Lions up front in the way that this one did

There were numerous better options than Halfpenny.
Another playmaker/15 cover such as Carbery or Sam Davies, or another wing/15 cover like Steff Evans
>>
>>76771477
The second rows definitely aren't as good as Retalick/Whitelock, the only definitively better option there is Mealamu over Taylor
>>
>>76771488
>Carbery or Sam Davies, or another wing/15 cover like Steff Evans
Do you read some of the shit you type sometimes?
>>
>>76771534
yes. I like halfpenny, but he offers very little apart from a decent pair of hands and solid defence. He's an insurance pick and not a positive option
>>
>>76771488

Who the fuck is Carbery?

The fact that you're touting Sam Davies and Steffan Evans for the Lions kind of highlights how shit our options were
>>
>>76772185
>Who the fuck is Carbery?
>casuals in my /rug/
And Steffens has been one of the best players in the Pro12 this season, certainly the best back 3 player
>>
>>76772232

You can't pick players for the Lions based on how good they looked playing in a shitty league against Zebre, Treviso and the Dragons. Shit like this is why the Irish think Earls and Zebo are good rugby players.

Also I honestly had to google who Carbery was. The name didn't even ring a bell.
>>
>>76772271
>how good they looked playing in a shitty league against Zebre, Treviso and the Dragons
But Scarlets beat Toulon and drew with Saracens,as well as tearing Munster and Leinster a new one
>>

>Shit like this is why the Irish think Earls and Zebo are good rugby players.

All I see are complaints about them.
>>
>>76772319

Ok but that's not a good reason to pick them for the Lions.

When watching Wales limp over the line against Tonga did you think "wow these guys should be with the Lions?".

The only man who looked that calibre was Gareth Anscombe, who actually wouldn't have been a bad option in hindsight.
>>
>>76772359
Anscombe is rank average and will never be anything other than rank average. Wales limped past Tonga and Samoa because we have fuck all tight 5 depth, Aled Davies was shit in Samoa and Jobberts was stinking up the midfield. It's just about impossible for any back to look good in those circumstances
>>
Is Scarlets shill objectively the worst /rug/ poster? I'm Welsh myself and this shit is getting embarrassing now.
