Westbrook would be a huge mistake. Look at his playstyle. He relies on athleticism and he's very aggressive on the court. This leaves him open to injury, physical decline, and when those either of those two things go, he will suffer a big decline in performance. The guy will be about 30 years old if he decides to leave OKC next season or 31 years old if he takes up his player option and then decides to leave.


The more I look at the Bulls situation, the less I like the deal made with the timberwolves. I don't think there's anything wrong with going for a rebuild when you take a look at the league and the Bull's chances of winning a championship immediately. Golden State will rule the NBA for a little while longer. However, Butler is only 27 years old and Wade and Rondo's contracts come off the books within the next 2 seasons. That's a lot of cap space to work with a 29 year old Butler. The best thing for the Bulls would be to hope Wade gets injured so the team naturally is bad and leaves you in a good position to draft young talent during these next 2 worthless years (when Wade and Rondo are still owed money).

Exactly. Look, a team has to make a decision on what the team's goal is. Is it to win a championship? Is it just to make the playoffs so you can make money off of it? If your goal is to win a championship, tanking and going full rebuild allows you to eventually become a championship team.

If the Bulls decided rebuilding was the best course of action they could take in order to build a championship squad, then trading Butler would be fine. The obstacles standing in the way of a championship team is your star player's age in comparison to the Warriors' ages, and the contracts that are roadblocks. In this case, The Bulls have

>Warriors are 29 years old roughly, potentially giving Butler an extra 2 years of prime performances after Warriors decline due to age
>Rondo and Wade contracts run out in 1-2 years

This means that in 2 years, Butler will only be 29, Warriors will be 31 years old, and the Bulls will have a lot of cap space to work with. LeBron will be 34/35. I don't think the Bulls needed a full rebuild. I would try and trade Wade for cheap as he's an expiring contract in order to purposely make the Bulls miss the playoffs so that the Bulls can try and get some young talent to help out Butler/the Max FAs in 3 years. If Butler was 29 I would blow it all up because no way you can hope the Warriors or LeBron decline in time.
