Boring as shit. I wasn't really even into racing then it was so boring. A lot of that I think was the TV coverage. Networks like TNN had no idea how to cover races. When Fox took over they made the races much more entertaining by covering more then just the leaders, and having a lot more cameras around each track.

But really it was about the same as a decade later when Gimmie was doing the same thing. It was boring and drove long time fans away.

I heard Road America has pretty open pits too, I was so excited to go and maybe meet some Indycar drivers but I work in agriculture processing frozen vegetables and racing season is during the busy season so I can't plan to go do anything fun out of town on a weekend incase the crops come in and I get called into work

Thought Sonoma was fantastic. Love when a race has various strategies like that. I thought Kyle and Jr played it perfect, but they pushed it too far 2nd to last stop and gave up so much time to Harv and Brad. Had they divided it up better they coulda maybe caught Harv. Also thought Brad's crew chief nailed the strategy...it's really rare to go green that long to finish. Had they caught a caution Brad woulda won.

Need more long green flag runs in NASCAR. I love when people are off sequence and crew chiefs gotta actually think.

It's crazy to me to read back into NASCAR's history and how insanely dangerous the sport was. Like as a fan now, I know there are dangers and shit but I don't fear that my favorite driver is gonna die...or any of them. But it wasn't super uncommon back in the day. I'd think it'd be depressing to emotionally invest yourself in a sport where the competitors die with any degree of regularity.

Injuries can happen, but the shunts and sheer g-force the drivers are surviving are a lot higher than in stock car racing.
The last two drivers to pass were due to head injuries due to the open cockpit nature of the sport.
Freak accidents can happen in any sport, 2015 we lost a driver at Le Mans in what appeared to not be all that hard of a hit.

The cars and tracks NASCAR's top 3 series race at have made massive gains with safety. It'd take something really freak to be fatal.

Obviously Daytona has a ton of dangers with the cheese grater catch fence, but there are some freaky angles you can hit at road courses...and then high speed tracks like Pocono and Michigan if something goes wrong like w/Jimmie not too long ago.

But it's not even close right now. Indy is much more dangerous with the risk of serious injury to death than NASCAR is.

When you see drivers walking away from the impacts NASCAR driver's do with regularity, I don't think luck is a word I'd use. They have engineers and other experts who study the data from each impact to further improve safety.

Of course anything's possible, but NASCAR hasn't gotten much safer with luck.

well to relate it to the Indy 500, if I may, Scott Dixon's crash during the race, with the flying upside down and shit, looked a lot scarier than Sebastien Bourdais's crash before the race.

but Dixon walked away with a sore ankle, while Bourdais ended up in the hospital with a broken pelvis. how bad the crash looks on TV isn't necessarily how bad the crash is.

If Bourdais had hit the wall head on the car would have still been carrying inertia and the DW12 cockpit literally would not crumple like yesteryear. The car would have been forced to rotate one way or another after hitting head on.
What would have happened to Bourdais is anyone's guess, but I would obviously expect far worse injuries than what we saw.

Doubt it was Samantha because Kyle planned it for a while and she does a lot of Kyle's personal PR and manages his activities outside of JGR so she had to have known for a while Kyle was planning it. Joe Gibbs seems fine with drivers doing outside races as long as they aren't harming their championship chances.
