Nah man, Chávez really the best boxer we ever had. He isn't even my favourite among the ones listed, but it is what it is. Look at him fighting, he was great in almost all aspects. Meldrick Taylor also was not a fucking joke.

The big defect Marquéz had is his glass chin. His technique wasn't better than Chávez either, despite being great. Legitimately lost to Pacquiao, maybe had a draw. and arguably a win before their 4th fight, but by the time KO'd him, Pacquio wasn't in his prime. Granted, Márquez was also old, but still.

I've seen several people listing him below Zárate, which he wasn't, so he is a little underrated, I agree. Still not top 3. That's how I see it.

I think 24 or so is the best age for a blue chip prospect to turn pro (a little sooner for the small guys and a little later for the big guys). I think spending a few years competing against other top prospects in the ams is more beneficial than going pro immediately and learning their craft mainly against bums for the first four to five years of their careers. An Olympic gold medal is probably more prestigious than most professional accolades as well - probably only second to the lineal championship these days - and it can also really boost a fighter's earning potential if they pick one up before making the switch. Promoters will pay a lot more for an Olympic medallist
