Have you actually seen the race?
The tyre was not punctured at that point. The Vette was too fast, braked too late, locked up, then the driver decided that it was best to go straight through and risk it than to take the detour and lose P1 for sure.
He risked it and the car got fucked.

Contact happened on the opposite end of the car and, well, I'd say it's common sense to guess that going through the gravel can cause a puncture.
Again, it just looks like the stress got to the pilot, he braked late and ended up in the gravel. Shit happens.

Can't they just relax the hybrid regs in LMP1 and create LMP-E for their electric energy erections?

>>76622779
i'm no expert mind you, but from what i understand its partially because of the pressure buildup that i already mentioned and in the case of the porsche at road atlanta, he was right behind another car going over a hill so there was no air on his nose to generate front downforce.

I think, all in all, Toyota did decently. They do need to work on their car, but they had the same problems Porsche had, and one of their cars still finished. They didn't get the podium, but they got the lap time record by quite a large margin.
I hope next year they focus on just two cars and make them not only harder to kill, but easier to fix. Had their hybrid system been easier to swap in the pits they might have been looking at a podium placement.

Their leading cars broke down in quick succession during the night, they never gave up and the #8 car made solid lap times right until the end.
They lost all hope of winning around yesterday 7pm, but they didn't give up.
