Indycar offers something different.
Pic related is the racing circuit they'll be on two weeks from now.
Road America is a 4 mile long natural terrain road course. Better than any Tilkedrome ever built, as importance goes I would put it up there with Spa, though it has a longer history with Sports Car than Indycar.
It's a beautiful track, you should watch with us. There'll be a test there this week before the race the week after.

Was an alright race, not sure how Firestone didn't come prepared with a better tire. I wish it hadn't been a pack race and I wish that the cars hadn't been so damaged.
Some of the racing was thrilling when drivers could make definitive moves, but getting stuck side by side for 3-10 laps is nerve-wracking and extremely dangerous in open wheel cars.

For reference, driver's helmets that season had flips on the rear of the helmet to clean the air.
This was deemed dangerous by the sanctioning body CART after that year.
Surprised to see F1 using it and at the same time not, bit of a safety risk.
F1 tends to be behind Indycar as safety is concerned, a F1 car would not hold up to an accident on an oval like we've seen drivers walk away from, but it generally doesn't have to.

I suppose that the flaps could be designed to produce downforce and could also weigh more than a standard helmet, making a driver's neck more susceptible to serious injury during a crash... Thinking about it, I'm certain they were designed more for a smoothing effect to get the air that would create turbulence around the driver's neck and the roll-bar to help out the rear downforce.

well in rfactor things can get messed up since there are user made mods and names have to match up, you have to update a file to make sure the correct aero is used at each track.
The problem is that the aero in game is from 2012-14 so it isn't exactly up to date. Same with engines and horsepower. (There is a third party mod from URD that uses 2015 aero but it seems to be only a visual change, the driving physics seem copy/pasted from the 1st party cars) But the physics are generally pretty strong once you figure out the setups and move away from the defaults.

Yeah, as good of a driver Vautier is, the only reason GUT wasn't in the car at Texas was because the team couldn't squeeze in a private test on a smaller oval before the race.
Also, I kind of hope he stays around because if Carlos Slim (His main financial backer) sees some gain from him being in the series, a return to the Mexico City F1 track could happen. Or even that crazy 1.25 Mile oval somebody's trying to build to attract NASCAR could work as well.

I do think Tristan is a good driver:
He probably should have had another year with Sam Schmidt, but Sam didn't have the funding for the second car the next year and Tristan's Indy Lights championship money was used up by Indy.
You generally can't expect super good results from a rookie.
Tristan's performances as a sub have been better than any of his drives during his full season with SPM and his partial season with Coyne.

Robin Miller has scathing comments for the Texas race and the schedule in general.
The comments though aren't the "we need roadsters, damn furriners, all ovals!" Kind of complaints you'd expect, but he has kind of piped down with that shit lately.
