The fence lights are the "real lights." Pretty sure the rules are written as the caution beginning when those lights turn on. That's how it is officiated every other week when the race ends under caution. The broadcast uses the fence lights in their replays.

You cannot have this in any NASCAR series. If the rule is the field is frozen at the moment of caution on the final lap, then you need to be able to prove the clear winner with visible evidence.

If the lights are on delay so be it, STILL use them. Let there be visual evidence to prove who won the race.

Apparently Texas ran the wire from the booth to track lights by going all the way around the world and circling back, rather than take the short route. That would explain the 2 second delay.

I keep seeing the "officials spread thin" thing but I don't think thats the case. I talked to an official once at Eldora for the trucks and he said each series has its own full time officiating crew. Truck and Xfinity being like Freshmen and JV with Cup being varsity. Officials can be promoted and demoted at times for various reasons. But they all work their series full time.
