Actually the way europeans do it makes the regular season actually competitive and worth watching. I realized how shitty the playoff system is when I watched the warriors have the best regular season after, but in the end not get a trophy cause steph was playing injured and draymond got suspended.

Soccer does it better by having multiple different trophies you can win. So whoever wins the league gets rewarded, then they have a separate playoff cup competition with teams from their own countries. Then of course the overarching champions league. GOAT teams can show their dominance by winning several trophies in one season.

Also add in the fact that teams that dont make the playoffs are incentivized to lose more games so that they can get a better draft pick. The european system is much older and has had more time to be perfected.
