Probably because football might not have been that big in Switzerland, especially when compared to Britain. I don't think many away fans went to those games as it wasn't as easy to travel back then as it is today.

Hampden park was the biggest football stadium in the entire world, until the Maracana was constructed. Scotland also used to be a leading football nation, with a population that was absolutely crazy for the sport.

Now compare that with a smaller stadium, in a country that was far less passionate about the sport and with far less traveling support than today.
