He's been doing it for years. It's not just Bubba, Roush has had trouble getting sponsors for Bayne and Stenhouse in Cup, Biffle in Cup a couple years ago before them. Every Ford EcoBoost race was unsponsored or at best a gift from Ford. Back in the Ricky vs Trevor Nationwide days the 6 and 16 were usually flat white. He even had trouble finding sponsors for Matt Kenseth towards the end. Hell, Carl Edwards' first NASCAR win came in an unsponsored Roush truck. What's really cool about today is how Junior gave Brad a shot to drive for JRM. Brad grew and improved to become a championship driver. Then Brad built BKR to help the sport and gave Blaney a chance. Now Blaney gets his first win.

I'll never like Kyle, but I do think it's cool that he's also built a truck team to give drivers a chance through JGR. It'd be great for the sport if more drivers took interest in ownership. But understandably the economics are tough so it's understandable.

Jr picked a good year to go. I think some of the other older stars should start planning their leave as well. NASCAR, talent wise, is in fantastic shape right now. This young crop of drivers are so talented, and personable/likable, for the most part.

I was at the Pocono race today. Got a little boring during the long green flag runs but my god that finish was one to remember

If a driver's team wants to have success, they need the help of an established cup team. Kyle has JGR and Brad has Penske, which is why they're still going strong. Look at Michael Waltrip as someone who tried to do it with Rob Kauffman's financial and some initial manufacturer support. Obviously there were other issues with MWR that led to it's downfall, but I feel the point still stands. Junior's team will be fine as long as he remains a satellite of Hendrick for the near future.

Agree for the most part, but I think Jr can go on his own if he ever chose to. He has the money to spend and the name to attract sponsors and drivers. Plus his family has a really long relationship with Chevy.

I don't think Chevy needs another team or anything. I think it'd make more sense for JRM and HMS to continue their partnership and at some point Jr buyout a stake in HMS so he can take the reins. Rick is pretty fucking old.

I think I saw something a few weeks back that it was like 5 million/year to run a trucks team? I'm going on memory that's fuzzy so # could be off. But after the drivers and equipment and shit, you still have all the travel...which for a pro race team is pretty fucking expensive. Especially when they're going out west.

To stay profitable you have to win races. If not, you lose money. I think Brad was losing in the millions each year for a while there, but haven't checked recent finances. It was an accepted expense for him tho since he wants to give back.

It's an economics prob. NASCAR needs tower the costs. Somehow. You can't attract investors to a business model that loses money. You only attract those with a personal interest in seeing it succeed...like Brad and Kyle.
