People always compare the two but let's look statistically at how they compare.

Lebron joins the Miami heat, leads them to a 71.7% or on average 59 win seasons. The team was heavily dependent on Lebron as noticed by their drop off in win %age, I could not find their record on games Lebron sat but I have an inkling that it was no bueno.

Cleveland

2013-2014

A year prior to Lebron's joining the Cavs, their record was 33-49. They had consistently been 'in the lottery' for 4 years.

Lebron joins with Kevin Love and leads the team to a 53 win season. As we know they lose the finals.

2015-2017

Lebron leads his team to 51 and 57 win seasons but the most glaring statistic is the Cavs record without Lebron. A record which is 4-19 so a 21 win %age without Lebron.

So despite Lebron forming Super teams, I think we can all agree that it was Lebron that made these Super teams because if you took him out of the equation, both Miami and Cleveland were fairly mediocre-average in terms of record despite looking impressive on paper.

I literally watched that entire series before the Finals and it came down to the Heat having a better total unit playing well than some retarded simplifications like that. Yeah Harden didn't play that well overall and missed open shots but so did every other role player on that team. Westbrook passed all the damn time, and he played off the ball then more than he's ever had in his career, I'd say he played some of his best basketball ever, including this year, in that series. He had one bad game where he missed a lot of shots, like the rest of the team z but followed it up with one of the best Finals performances ever with a very efficient 40 point game that fell short due to bad team defense in the final minutes and missed shots by KD and one TO by KD.

Overall it was really just their team defense being worse overall and some slow rotations due to Wade and LeBron's speed. Some point to Perkins but I'd dare you to find a better defensive center in the playoffs that year or one that could stop Wade and LeBron. KD did a particularly bad job of keeping LeBron in front of him and Harden was a liability to the point he barely had any time playing in the clutch which is probably the most overlooked part of that entire series.

Steals, then rebounds, then assists, then blocks.

A steal means you've turned their possession into your possession. So with a steal, you've turned their chance to score (usually their PPP for half court), into a transition chance for you to score (which has a higher average PPP than other scoring situations). For what it's worth, a turnover is just less impactful, but that's because more turnovers lead to an opponent's half court PPP than transistion PPP.

An offensive rebound means you get another chance at possession, and in some sense is almost as good as a steal, if you assume that defensive rebounds are the norm. There's a reason why usually a team with more rebounds wins, and that's because they have more possessions.

A defensive rebound means you've denied your opposition an offensive rebound. You could argue that this is as valuable as an offensive rebound for your own team, but usually defensive boards are uncontested and so shouldn't be considered as impactful.

An assist means that another player on your team has scored at least two points. Good teams get lots of assists, but assists aren't the only way to get points - the FT line and iso. Free throws are efficient, iso is not. Also, due to how arbitrary the classification for an assists is, it's hard to determine an average value for it when the variance is so high. Assists are impactful because they mean points were scored, but who the workload was on to get the points varies wildly between each assist.

A block usually goes out of bounds, or the team that got blocked regains possession, so overall blocks are pretty useless unless you can catch or rebound them like Whiteside or turn them into outlet passes like Bill Russell. What huge swats can do though is energise the team, making them play better in the long run.

I'm not saying that. The steals leaderboard isn't filled with guys who are good defenders, it's guys playing the passing lane. And you'll see good blockers trying to swat things instead of easily contesting at the rim, and looking stupid. What I am saying about steals is that no matter who gets them, they're the most impactful basic stat in basketball, but only slightly more than rebounds, and taking each stat on its own (so looking at the value of one steal vs one rebound, etc.).

Obviously over a game, with many more rebounds than steals, rebounds as a whole will have been more valuable, but if a team grabbed 30 steals and 50 rebounds, it will have been the steals that won them the game.

When you're talking about what basic stats you should consider when talking about how good a player is, I think basic stats are fundamentally flawed and can't be used to get to a true value of a player's value. Each seperate steal, rebound, assist, block has a different value in points, and unless you have supporting data to back up those basic stats, you won't be able to get a formula where you throw them all together and come out with true values.

Definitely a more complete small forward than Lebron James. Can score from anywhere on the court, is an amazing passer who always makes the right decision, rebounds the ball at a high level, can block shots, can steal the ball with his length, defends at a high level.
