In soccer, it seems that players are allowed to talk back and argue with the ref with impunity. Rarely do you see a yellow issued for dissent. This erodes and undermines the credibility and authority of the referee.

In basketball, players who cross the line in this aspect routinely are issued technical fouls.

In baseball, arguing with the umpire gets the player or manager ejected from the game.

In football, a 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct is issued.
