And that D20 ends a session that saw 2 big shocks and three top 32 players dumped out of the tournament.

Belgium had the easiest ride of the lot with an 8-2 aggregate spanking of Greece; Kim Huybrechts managed to miss 17 darts at a double but still got past Ioannis Selachoglou with ease while Ronny Huybrechts set a new TV record (for a Belgian) with a blistering 115.62 average in an obliteration of John Michael.

Wales once again ended up in last leg deciders but won them both to knock out the Irish. Gerwyn Price and Mick McGowan had a remarkably bad time on the doubles, with 30 missed between them both and 15 of those were for the match! Mark Webster meanwhile came from 3-2 down to defeat William O'Connor, winning with a smart 81 on the bull.

Russia were the first big upsetters of the session by eliminating Australia. Kyle Anderson's scoring was OK but when it got down to the finishes he just couldn't set them up properly, only having 6 in the match, as madman Aleksandr Oreshkin broke the Abbo's throw three times and crucially held in the sixth to get a point. Boris Koltsov kicked off the next match with a 138 finish but Simon Whitlock's 57% on the finishes tied the fixture. Alas, Anderson's problems continued into the pairs match as the Aussies could only get three attempts at a finish - all in the first leg - and the Russians secured a famous victory.

Antonio Alcinas was the disappointment in the Singapore-Spain match as he let Paul Lim through without a threat, a 112 from the veteran destroying the Spaniard's confidence. Cristo Reyes tied it up after Harith Lim didn't turn up, but younger Lim reappeared to support senior Lim (whereas Alcinas vanished) in the pairs for the second whitewash of the tie and their first ever World Cup quarter-final tomorrow.

And that D16 ends a night that was largely one-sided as all the seeds and the superior non-seed advanced.

Austria have only dropped two legs all tournament as they got past Canada with relative ease. John Part's decline was disappointingly displayed as Mensur Suljovic whitewashed him, the 3-time World Champion averaging just 72. Rowby-John Rodriguez sped into a 2-0 lead against absolute irritant John Norman Jnr. but after the madman's 180 and subsequent celebration in the third leg, RJR struggled to keep his head. Thankfully for him, JNJ was rubbish and didn't take proper advantage of the loss of concentration.

Germany did a Huelocaust+1 on the Brazilian debutants as they only dropped a single leg. Martin Schindler missed 16 darts but Alexandre Sattin's lowly 62 average never came close to punishing the 25% outshot rate. Max Hopp set a tournament high finish with a 161 and averaged well over 100 against Diogo Portela for most of the match, but lost concentration at 3-0 and ended up averaging 93, but more than enough to win.

England's Adrian Lewis and Dave Chisnall whitewashed South Africa 8-0 in a tie that had very little to shout about. Snackpot hit a 118 in his 4-0 whipping of Devon Petersen while Chizzy made light work of Deon Oliver.

Netherlands survived a mighty scare as another pairs annihilation saved their embarrassment against the USA. Michael van Gerwen was notably under-fire against Darin Young, only averaging 94 and having Big Daddy to thank for a number of important finishes missed to secure 1 point. It was Larry Butler who took the tie into a decider with a perfect display of finishing against Raymond van Barneveld, with 120, 109 and 95 bull finishes tying the fixture. However, a 4-0 hammering with a 111 average and 67% finishing saw the Oranje advance to the final day.
