It isn't, its just different from nfl, nba etc in that people really only want to watch THEIR team, they dont particularly care about nationally televised matchups even if they are the best teams. So for whatever massive tv deals are signed, its rarely worth it unless there are large market teams playing or there is a big meme like the cubs not winning in 108 years. I think if they marketed mlb.tv more and offered cheaper, team specific streaming packages that did not require you to also pay for cable they would make an absolute killing, but I doubt they can do that under their current tv licensing deals.
>>
>>76269141
What's your point? they haven't been good in years and only started improving once they stopped buying old players for a gazillion dollars and instead concentrated on developing prospects.

Baseball, despite no salary cap, has the best parity of all the sports leagues.
>>
>>76269141
Who haven't won a World Series since 2009 and small market teams like the Royals won in 2015. This NEVER happens in NBA and you know it. The Jews purposely make the NBA a show year after year because they can make easy shekels off of flashy shit.
>>
It markets teams, not players.
No Curry chucking or Odell one handed catches.

More like "These mets have some 86 magic" or "These Cubs are doing what hasnt been done since....1908"
>>
>>76269224
>Baseball, despite no salary cap, has the best parity of all the sports leagues.

Yes and no. When the Yankees suck (for example in the 80s and now this decade), parity is great. When they're good, like for example in the 90s, forget about it, the rest of the league doesn't have a chance.
>>
>>76269226
Since 2011 we've had the Mavericks, Warriors, and Cavs all win the NBA title. The Lakers and Celtics haven't been a factor in years.
>>
>>76269272
This. I can't understand star worship culture but it makes sense that this is the new normal because hyper individualism exists now. It's now about players vs. each other instead of teams vs. each other, which is what sports was supposed to be like years ago
>>

Hockey and baseball seem to be the sports /sp/ loves to hate on the most.

And the OP isn't true. Baseball is healthier than ever, even among "young people."

The retarded perception that only old people watch baseball comes from how journalists uses ESPN ratings as their "evidence."

All the "young people" will be likely be watching their own teams on a regional network, not tuning into ESPN for Giants vs. Mets or whatever.

I'm sorry but this "baseball is dying" meme is a concerted effort by libshits to kill it and put their basketball at #2. NBA is watched mainly by liberals because half of them are black, and a lot of the whites are cucks. Baseball is pretty center right on average. Why is there never an argument that whites are leaving the NBA in droves(the people with the most money)? It's about hockey-tier with whites at this point.

>>
>>76267969
Looks that way, the average age of baseball fans is like 50.

Gen Z is the social media generation and MLB has a pretty low presence on social media compared to the NFL or NBA. The MLB is also terrible at marketing their star players, Mike Trout and Bryce Harper are literal whos compared to Aaron Rodgers or Steph Curry.

>>76271506

>Combining the percentage of black players (7.73%) and Latino, Asian and other diverse players (34.6%), the game has reached unprecedented levels of diversity (42.33%) on non-DL active Opening Day rosters.

MLB isn't some White utopia, it's more diverse than it's ever been, there are just more Spics than Nigs now.
>>
>>76271707
Compare that to the NFL and NBA where it's 90% or more black and there are little to no Hispanic/Asian players in either leagues. Besides fuck stardom culture. This defeats the idea of teams. Leave it to people like you to give into the narcissistic auras that come into other leagues. Let the MLB do its own thing. Nice Reddit spacing though, friendo.

You think the MLB is some omnibenevolent force that will exist forever and doesn't care about money? There's a reason Manford is scrambling to change the game, there won't be a constant stream of 50 year old fans to keep the league alive. Millennials and Gen Z don't watch TV, MLB is shit at appealing to them so the inevitable result is a continued decline.
>>
>>76271922

Three of the greatest centerfielders ever all played in New York in the 50s. Mickey Mantles for the Yanks. Willie Mays for the Giants. Duke Snider for the Dodgers.
>>
>>76272798
Yanks spent all their magic just win their three games in NY. The Diamondbacks got their turn of luck though. The Luis Gonzalez game winning hit, a short looping single, in Game 7 off Rivera would have been an out if Jeter were positioned normally, but the infield was playing in.
>>
>>76269285
Outside of that tear they went on from 1996-2000 they've 1 world series in about 35 years.

To be fair the biggest culprit is that it's hard to get through a best of 5 and 2 best of sevens because of the luck factor of an individual baseball game. Literally anyone can win if they just get in. Nobody was thinking the pacers and blazers were going to play in the finals.
>>
>>76272881
Most of the Yankees' wins happened when there were no playoffs and significantly less teams.
>>
>>76272730
It was. Attendance at baseball games dropped considerably during the 50s with the event of TV and other things to draw people away.

And yes, during the Eisenhower years they were saying baseball was dead just like every decade since the 1800s, and that it had become a commercialized borefest where players cared more about their stock options than the game.
>>

The Yankees would certainly have less championships if today's playoff system existed since 1923, but they would still have more championships than any other team. The Yankees have almost always had a good front office which is key to prolonged success. Ed Barrow made the Yankees what they are today.
>>
>>76272929
>The Yankees have almost always had a good front office which is key to prolonged success
Not so much during the CBS years in 1966-73 when they were a doormat. Also they went through a prolonged period of suckage in the 80s.
>>
>>76272944
Certainly, but the groundwork and blueprint has always been there for the Yanks. They haven't had a losing season since 1991 -- and fielded bad, bad teams in 2013 and 2014. That's the second longest consecutive winning seasons streak behind the Yankees from '26-'64 (39 seasons).

The only time the Yankees have ever had a losing record in a decade were the 1910s. The only decades the Yankees never won a world series were the 1900s, 1910s, and 1980s (2010s so far). And every other decade they've won at least two world series in.

The Yankees organization has almost always been well run and that's their key to success. Organizational strength and leadership is why the Mets, in the same city, can never maintain winning.
>>
>>76272944
CBS had them less than a decade and yes, the team was run poorly during that period.
>>
>>76272828
Chicago is big market but it didn't stop the Cusb from going 108 years without a World Series and also the Bears have never been all that successful historically.

And let's not even get into the Knicks. They're a New York team yes, but their management compared with the Lakers has been historically garbage. The Lakers are called the Yankees of basketball for a reason, they've always had a great front office that could pick out the best players.
>>
>>76273083
The 90s Knicks were pretty good, but they couldn't scale Mt. Chicago.

Baseball is far from dying, but there are a lot more competing distractions than in Babe Ruth's time hence it can't be America's Pastime (TM) in the same way it once was.

NASCAR has declined because the whole thing has gotten too slick and corporate, the days of colorful racing pirates like Dick Petty are over and there's no standout drivers anymore, plus all the cars are identical. Sports like the NBA for comparison have their superstars that kids look up to and add color to the game.
>>
>>76289186
Don't agree. In any sport, the best players are the guys who keep it clean, professional, and don't embarrass themselves. Tom Brady is as clean-cut and professional as it gets. Brett Favre was not, he was a crybaby attention whore and as a consequence he could never touch the true great QBs like Montana and Brady.

NASCAR has too many stupid hillbilly fans who resist any sort of change as they jerk off to their Earnhardt poster in their mobile home and want to live in 1988 forever.
