Is general boxing okay to discuss here? Don't want to go to /fit/.

Just signed up for my first event. Looks like a charity fight at my local gym. It will probably be pretty lax, but I'd like to take it a little more seriously.

Currently about 5'11" and about 150 pounds, there was a sign up sheet asking for weight so I assume they'll kind of just put like weights together instead of sticking with weight classes.

Main problem is, I have only been sparring maybe a month and I've got two more to go. Recently got what I think is plantar fasciitis and messed up my inner elbows with incorrect form. (I was trying to use my back more and I think I just messed something up.) gonna take a break today but I feel crazy guilty about it.
Any tips for getting better faster and or general newbie tips?

Continental Western Europeans are just appallingly feminine. High performing Asian countries are too reserved and quiet. You could make an argument for AU/NZ, I think they're very athletic but not necessarily tough. Urban White Americans are pitiful, although some in the Bible Belt/Midwest have some grit to them. Not sure I can count African Americans/Hispanics because they don't have a high standard of living.

Depends on your definition of "tough," the average work expectations in those countries would make a westerner cry. Big part of why Japan dominates the lower weights despite the same average height as huge boxing nations like Mexico, the pain they put themselves through to be in perfect physical condition isn't really matched on average on a national scale elsewhere.

Traditionally you are correct. British boxing coaching seems to heavily revolve around fitness and fundamentals. There are a few guys like Ingle, Booth and now McGuigan and Coldwell who are a little more adventurous though. I think McCracken has had a good influence on our amateur system too
