is it the most insanely difficult trophy to win?
>>
Even Spain won one of those.
>>
only because it's every four years, that doesn't mean it has any quality on it. overrated trophy by south america and memes. even the charity shield has more merit.
>>
Only great footballing nations win it. You don't see memes like Chile, Portugal, Colombia, Mexico, USA, Belgium, Greece and Denmark winning it
>>

after how many tries? do you remember that time you poached fucking Puskas + Di Stefano but failed anyway?

This.
Tournaments require you to be good for a handful of games and one bad refereeing decision can destroy any chance you have of progressing. A league (a real league, not the Champions League) is harder to win because you have to be consistently good and have to play everyone. You can't rely some meme team knocking out "the big boys".
If it was held annually it would be as worthless as the League Cup.

Yes, the Krauts are the solid fav for 2018 at 5/1,
convert that to percentages and it's around 17%.
Those odds are not that far wrong but clueless fags here will tell you that Germany mustwinlol.

tl;dr yes it's fucking hard to win the WC, a lot has to go right even if you're the best side
>>
>>76257319
This is true but somehow tournaments like WC and CL are more prestigious even though leagues are harder and more demanding.
>>
It didnt look very difficult to win when Germany BTFO of Brazil. Looked more like taking candy from a baby. For some international jokes (like England or the US) it's insanely hard to win but that's like saying it's insanely hard for an amateur boxer to win the heavyweight title. If you're a good team and you get hot at the right time, it's not that hard to take it.

champions league is harder for sure

you could argue euros is harder but i dont wanna get into that

in the world cup, there are weak links in every team. look at teams like argentina/germany, top teams but have weaknesses, wheras teams like real barca bayern have no weaknesses comparable to those. there are some great players stuck on shit national teams, but in CL every good player is at a good team so there are more top players to go around. also these players play and train with eachother every day, know their tactics inside out and have better managers

Objectively, this one: the F1 World Drivers Champion Trophy.

You have to be regular through the whole year, in around 20 events in which the smallest single mistake can leave you out or kill you. And you have to deal with mechanical issues beyond you. Drivers have to endure forces as high as 6g every lap in every race and lose as much as 3kg every race out of sweat. While at the same time you have to focus on developing next season's car. Even winning the most races a season isn't an assured Championship.

This makes drivers like Michael Schumacher even more impressive.

Think about it, the likes of Ricky Alvarez and Sergio "I can barely make saves without 10 defenders covering me" Romero have 2nd place medals due to that team.

you really believe this?

America is a giant country, with a lot of immigrants from Italy, Spain, and Latin America
and they have 2 good players.
Uruguay have 30 people, and they won 2 world cups, and yes it was Mesozoic Era, but they managed to reach a Semi final recently.

It is not about caring, it is in the DNA, They will never win a World Cup, caring or not

CL is of a higher quality but any world class player is infinitely more likely to win a CL than a World Cup.

Like someone said before, a player gets to play in max 3, maybe 4 (5 with god tier luck) World Cups. One off-day in the KO phase and you gotta wait another 4 years.

Surely, maybe they said that in the days Pele and other stars went to play in America, but nowadays is when you actually see soccer as a relevant sport in schools and colleges, there are sell outs in almost every MLS match, and the country has finally invested millions in soccer training centers. And it was impressive the amount of american fans in the last WC. Maybe they didn't understand shit of what was happening (which made the kinda cute lol, like jap or korean fans), but they were there, caring about their team and supporting. There was an actual youth talent serch system under Klinsmann and they had a decent run at the 2014 WC. It is pretty clear to me they will eventually win it.

It is not about logic, Hungary had a brilliant team, reached 2 finals and lost to an inferior side.

Do you think Hungary will win a world cup in 30 years?50 years?70 years?

Mexico cares about football, have a big country, a reasonable league, and they will never win it.Just like they never won a Libertadores.

It is about DNA, you can't buy that, money will not win a world cup
>>
>>76258830
its possible they will win it one day, but i still dont think they understand how to be good. they push athleres because theyre 6'6, or are on steroids etc, and not on technique. their best players came through foreign teams youth systems and they dont let their players play in the MLS until they are 22, so their development is super slow unless they leave

once in a while they make a donovan or a pulisic, but you need a whole team of those level of guys to win the wc.

even useless countries like sweden can make a larsson or ibrahimovic sometimes, one or two good players doesnt mean much

its easy to become good at football when everyone else in the country is a genius at it, american kids cant learn about being good because every previous generation was shit at it so if youre taught by shit youre gonna become shit

I understand your point, but they are having progess on that. This last few years they had some decent players with Donovan, Howard, Depsey, Jermaine Jones, etc.

Before that they had some others not as good between 94 and 2002 like Cobi Jones, Brian McBride, etc.

and before that they didn't have shit. America was absolutely non existant in the 80s, 70s, 60s.... I literally have no idea how they got to 3rd place in the 30s to be honest.

My point is, maybe they'll have some 4-5 good players in Qatar, maybe in 2026 they will have 7 good players, in 2030 they will get to the semi finals and in 2034 they might actually win it, or at least be recognized as a superpower. Who knows?

I just don't think they want to stay as a mediocre nation forever in one of the very few aspects they aren't a superpower, specially with all the growing popularity football is having nowadays in america

CBF offers no money, or any economical stability, to maintain a good youth program.
Agents can prey like vultures on any talent.

>>76259148
You possibly can't understand what's it like to live in a country with economical problems. I bet with so many people interested in football in England even the government supports the FA and funds it.
Saddly many things like friendly matches that a team can travel to play (or pay the away team to come and play) , proper scouting of native players in foreign countries , top technology facilities are things hard for many FA countries to keep up with the economically fine countries.
Not to mention that when the economics are bad, FA is most usually corrupt , taking money from agents or teams so that they pick their players "based on talent and form". You can't build a decent team like that, there's always speaking about it in the locker rooms and obviously some players who deserved to get called up instead might turn their backs to the team later.

An incident like this happened at a friendly Turkey vs Greece. There was an Greek-Australian guy who played for Greece and then chose Australia. Something happened and Greece lost a 0-0 away draw with turkey 3-0. The player had interest from a Chinese team and, being called up to your NT and playing to it actually makes your worth a lot higher. This country is corrupt af.

Also add the fact that EU experimented on us with some measures they forced us to accept in order to get inside EU which ruined our economics even more(change of coin from drachma to Euro favored Europe and brought us disadvantage) and VOILA. >the EU accession of that textbook illustration of every economic nightmare, Greece
If only France hadn't failed to prevent one of the worst ideas in EU history. Us founding members shouldn't even have allowed Southern Italy in. Only other richfag countries should have been allowed in. Now even Iceland have reconsidered and don't want in any longer while the likes of Norway, Switzerland and soon the UK (+ potentially others) stay out of this mess.

>Ireland were the poorest member when they joined
Now the thieving pikeys are among the top. In fact it has been a huge benefit for all the poorfag countries.
>>
>>76259807
Greece got itself into this mess. Of course 80% of the funds never should have been lent to Greece in the first place which without it showing some real structure reforms, getting rid of its massive and corrupt bureaucracy, shunning its addiction to socialism (which it could never afford) and developing a modern economy. Poland, Estonia, Czech Republic, Thailand, Chile, Slovenia, and many other countries can do it and so can Greece - there are no excuses. While running around blaming everyone else for the crisis without changing its own profligate ways and dysfunctional economic system and government, might ease the sting of the humiliation that Greece now faces - but it is certainly not constructive and does nothing to address the underlying issues. Greece is where it is today because of its own doing (not that it's directly the fault of the of the Greece's citizens, but they are certainly the victims and the ones who will suffer most along with the European tax payers who paid for these loans. It's obvious that one can borrow unlimited sums as long as the return on the funds is substantially higher than the their cost. In this case the funds were largely wasted. The vast sums Greece chose to spend on the Olympic Games alone should have been a an excellent indicator to anyone paying attention that this money was being poorly invested and that Greece did not have its priorities in order. Look at what Russia spent on the Sochi games, another massive waste of money while the Russia's essentially tertiary economy and Plutocracy goes down the toilet.

There are 239 million registered male footballers in the world. Only one 23-player squad can win the World Cup. That leaves a 0.0000096% of winning the World Cup if you are a registered footballer.
