I was just discussing this with my family at the diner table the other day.
Do you know here, the average pay for the player is not much higher than the country average. You have players that can't even live of playing football, hence they aren't professionals.

The magic in football or other similar sports is that you see people working, lots of people see them working.
If everyone that watches them watch waiters serving tables instead the best waiter would earn much more that the worst, which probably would be fired(actually happens to some of those Hell's Kitchen waiters).

I actually have a friend who is a waiter and once a critic from a newspaper praised him in an article for being the best waiter that ever served him. Now his working at one of the best sushi places in Lisbon and besides serving tables is also a sake consultant.
