The owners did, but to quote wikipedia

> In 1995, owner Art Modell, who had purchased the Browns in 1961, announced plans to move the team to Baltimore, Maryland. After threats of legal action from the city of Cleveland and fans, a compromise was reached in early 1996 that allowed Modell to establish the Baltimore Ravens as a new franchise while retaining the contracts of all Browns personnel. The Browns' intellectual property, including team name, logos, training facility, and history, were kept in trust and the franchise was regarded by the NFL as suspended. A new team would be established by 1999 either by expansion or relocation. The Browns were announced as an expansion team in 1998 and resumed play in 1999.[13]

>During the ’16 season, the coordinator and quarterback held Tuesday game-planning sessions (like Manning used to) designed to give the triggerman ownership of the plan for Sunday. And now, as I understand it, the coaches are actually teaching the offense through Stafford. What does that mean? Stafford gets coached, and he coaches his teammates through that coaching, which would seem to be that process coming full-circle.

Who the fuck knows, most early indicators have shown they want him at guard but it will probably be an unsettled clusterfuck the entire year. Tom Cable is a good coach but it seems like everyone is way too high on his abilities to squeeze blood from rocks. Letting Max Unger go was a mistake, the Seahawks o-line is the football equivalent of of a rednecks yard full of junker "project" cars.
>>
>>76228542
no, he always covers second or third receivers and then brags about how few times they get balls thrown their way.

IE: he does very little.
Plays less talented guys and doesn't have to defend as many attempts.

Where as nearly all of those are corners go up against number 1's every week.

>>76228086
The division knows it's opponents very well and the only team with a decent vertical passing game was the cards so the games tend to be slug fests decided by defense and special teams.

>I always thought that trade was really bad for the Hawks. And it seemed obvious Graham wasn't going to mix well in their offense.

most everyone knew it was a bad idea. Unger held the entire line together with experience that's what centers fucking do.

Graham is a great player but either bevell or wilson are unable or unwilling to use him enough to warrant the trade. It has been a few years now and the trade has not shown any good dividends relative to the massive loss the OL now has.

Yeah, not saying Graham is a bad player but for a team that based its offense on power running with Lynch + Wilson improvisation a TE that can't block and isn't used to scramble drills doesn't mesh well. And if the idea was being more pass oriented... well, you need your QB to have time so still it doesn't make sense.

I think Schneider would take it back if he could. Counting on your coaches to develop cheap and immediately effective draft picks and cast offs when the entire league is having problems developing guys with high pedigrees is probably not the best plan, something that's probably more obvious now than it was a few years ago. Experience seems to count a lot more on the line than it does at other positions, especially with college ball being what it is. It'll be interesting to see how the next CBA shakes out to address this sort of shit.

Rich Gannon was really good but not on the level of eliteness of the last 20 years' top guys.

>Flaccid needs to be more like Gannon and play west coast instead of FUCK IT I'M GOING DEEP

That's almost like saying that Peyton should've scrambled more like Wilson. Gannon couldn't play a more vertical offense because he lacked arm strenght and Flacco most likely lacks the mentality to dink and dunk.

The trade turned out fine seeing as the Seahawks a good center in Britt and Jimmy has helped their offense. People don't realize the Seahawks needed a red zone target badly in 2014 and Unger missed a lot of games. Jimmy is now a pivotal part of the offense. At the time the trade was the right one to make and I stand by it. The Seahawks O-line would have been bad with or without Unger.

Unger has missed like one or two games since he's been in New Orleans, Jimmy missed a great chunk last year because of injury and he's not been the pivotal player they were paying for. His trade forced a shift in the system and it surely hasn't gone as planned. Now you have an expensive red zone target who has scored in 2 seasons in Seattle less TDs than in any season in New Orleans (except for his rookie year). The Hawks lost not only a center, also a first rounder. Overall like >>76229269 says if Schneider could go back in time and stop the trade he would.

I'd counter by saying that they addressed almost all of their defensive needs in the offseason, re-signed all of their important FAs, the team won't have to learn a new system, and the schedule isn't as bad as people think. Run defense will be the biggest deciding factor.

There is for people that root for other teams in the division.

Miami actually could very well start on a great run now that I checked the calendar. If they win the opener vs Tampa it's very easy to see them 3-0 with two beatable games against NO and Tennessee. You need to win as many games as possible in the front end of your calendar though because since the game against the Falcons there are almost no easy weeks.

So then while we're making excuses, I'll say that Miami limped into the playoffs missing almost all of their starting linebackers and secondary (Alonso was the only starting LB who played and even he was playing with a broken hand) as well as Pouncey and Tannehill, and they also played on the road in Pittsburgh.

>>76230489
Baltimore always has Miami's number, and I don't expect Raiders or Panthers to be wins (Panthers will bounce back this season). I'd really like Miami to beat Denver to make up for the last time they played.
>>
>>76230613
everyone gets injuries, to say the dolphins have arrived is nothing short of recency bias.

They crashed and burned after 2008, most surprise teams in the playoffs overachieved and go back to being crap the next few seasons.

It's the same with people acting like the Falcons and Cowboys should be favored to win the NFC despite a very inconsistent track record.
>>
>>76230613
Richie Incognito died for your sins. Yet you will still not avenge him because the Phins cannot win without Don Shula in charge.
>>
>>76230613
I could see you starting 5-0 and still miss the playoffs or barely limp into them. Since week 6 I only see Miami as favorites in the three games against NYJ + Buffalo, the rest is either a 50/50 or you look as big underdogs. But we'll see, maybe Oakland regress this season and it's easier than on paper for example, or Denver still doesn't fix its offense, or Carolina doesn't bounce back the way you (and me) think they're gonna do.

Going to bed m8s, night to y'all.

Yeah, and teams tend to play worse on the road, too. I'm just saying that beating a team doesn't always equate to exposing them. Obviously every team in the playoffs had injuries that they had to deal with. Miami was able to get a taste of the playoffs last season, and given that they've gained much more than they lost during the offseason, I don't see why they can't make it again.

Oh my kek

>Speaking after Tuesday's OTA, coach Sean McVay said "whoever we feel like gives us the best chance to win football games" is going to start at quarterback.

>"Right now, we feel really good about what they've both [Jared Goff and Sean Mannion] done," McVay continued. "Jared's done a nice job of getting better, but you always want to make sure you're playing the guy that you feel like gives you the best ability to win football games. Right now, Jared is the starter." It was a tepid endorsement from McVay. It's important to remember that McVay has zero ties to Goff; he didn't use the No. 1 pick on him, and Mannion has drawn some strong reviews from coaches this offseason. In D.C., McVay was part of the staff that favored fourth-rounder Kirk Cousins over No. 2 overall pick Robert Griffin III.

Most Jags fans are praying that 2016 was the fluke season and not 2015. Coaching change could make all the difference (apparently Blake was discouraged from working with his mechanics coach as much as he did before 2015 during the 2016 offseason). I'm not holding my breath though. I'm glad the Jags didn't reach on yet another QB this draft but if they aren't careful they're going to be Texans tier top 5 D but no QB in the next couple seasons.
>>
>>76234398
if Fournette pans out Bortles could be a game manager and they could have a top tier run game

should I care about this season?
>>
>>76234406

Yeah but Cann and Linder need to make significant strides and Robinson needs to pan out to really give Fournette a chance in hell.

And I don't think Blake is the game manager type of QB. His ceiling is some kind of Favre/Roethlisberger hybrid. He will always throw 12~14 picks a season (I feel) and needs to succeed as a gunslinger to really utilize his talents.
>>
>>76234446
the better team on that day, you mean.
>>
>>76234446
clarification: whoever is better on any given day. In no universe were the 2007 Giants a better team than the Patriots, overall, on paper/in a vacuum. None.
>>
>>76234451
only if Tom Savage wins out the starting job.
>>
>>76234558
doesn't matter
they beat them when it counted
therefore Giants > Pats
>>
>>76234579
that's simply incorrect. the better team does not always win. any given Sunday/Monday/Thursday, etc.
>>
>>76234595
nah
if the 'better' team was truly better they should've beaten the 'worse' team
>>
>>76234626
Depends what you mean by better. Teams with more talented players can lose to other teams with less because of superior coaching/execution.
>>
>>76234595
>>76234626
OK.how about this.
ex.
the 1985 Bears, widely considered the GOAT team aside from the 2007 Pats, lost 1 game, to Miami, who nullified their 46 defense for one afternoon. Were they better overall? Probably not. Best in the AFC, maybe.
Then Miami lost the AFCCG to the cinderella Patriots, widely considered to be the fault of Dan Marino choking, who were obliterated in the Super Bowl. Were the Patriots the better team than the Dolphins? Hell no.
>>
>>76234595

the team that plays better always wins. even great teams can get beat on off days
>>
>>76234569
>only if Tom Savage wins out the starting job.
Isn't he competing with a new QB draft pick? Forget his name.

Still stuck somewhere between regretting that Kubiak trade to the Broncos a few years back and not having a reliable QB/coach. Still can't tell if I can trust O'Brien. Feels like we're the browns 2.0
>>
>>76234674
yes
the Pats were the best team that week, they beat the team that beat the Bears, but then they lost to the Bears so the Bears became the best team again
>>
>>76234595
>>76234690
that's pretty much what I said, but OK.
>>
>>76234698
no matter how many times you repeat it, it's not true. the better team on any given day wins, but the better team overall is the one that wins the most (and most important) games.
In the 1985 AFCCG the Patriots executed their gameplan better, so they won. It was the second time they'd done it in the playoffs (against the Raiders, who also had a better record than them.) They were the better team that day than the Dolphins. However, their record was one game worse than the Dolphins, had an inferior quarterback (Tony Eason) to Dan Marino,

tl;dr the better team is defined on paper over the course of a season. single-game upsets do not nullify this. During the 2007 season, the Patriots were the best team but for one anomalous game, which happened to be the Super Bowl. This doesn't make the 14-win (inc. postseason) Giants better than the 18-win Patriots for that entire season.
>>
>>76234798
so are the 2015 Panthers just as good as the 85 Bears?
>>
>>76234812
no, because when you begin to compare teams with the same record (just for fun, you could throw any 15-1 team in the mix there as well,) that's when you can begin to look at the eventual outcomes of their seasons. The Bears had a much better defense, had a tougher schedule, and won the Super Bowl, while the Panthers were finally exposed in the Super Bowl because of their inferior defense and more importantly poor execution of their gameplan. '85 Bears > '15 Panthers.
>>
>>76234842
>inferior defense
they allowed 1 touchdown
as did the 85 Bears
>>
>>76234861
the Bears still WON, whereas the Panthers LOST.
>>
>>76234861
>implying that makes the pants equal
and anyway, both losers in those games still scored only 10 points apiece while losing by two or more TDs. So the Panthers were "better" than the Broncos, except on that one day.

And even then, and I am backtracking a bit on my point here, when you compare teams with unequal records, other factors come into play. The '15 Broncos did have a better defense than the Panthers. Their schedule was much tougher, and while the Panthers were missing key players for most of the season, they had a schedule that allowed them to (for the most part) cancel that out and more. And lastly, there were intangibles such as the Any Given Sunday rule which allowed them to beat better teams on certain days to achieve the record they had.

Though their record did not show it, in the end, the 2015 Broncos were indeed the better team than their SB opponents the Panthers.
>>
>>76235001
forgot
as were the 1985 Bears
>>
>>76235001
>muh SOS
isn't the playoff system supposed to weed out the cupcake teams?
>>
>>76235023
it's supposed to, but, like 2011, it often doesn't. 9-7 teams aren't supposed to beat 15-1 teams in the playoffs, but the Giants beat the Packers that year, and handily, too.
Undefeated regular-season teams are supposed to win it all. But that one team didn't.
I'm not seeing how one can still believe that the best team always wins.
>>
Lastly, here's a comparison of all the 15-1 teams, sorted by best seasonal outcome.
The Panthers may have been in the top 10 for offense and defense (simplifying them here for the sake of brevity,) but they had the lowest SRS and easiest schedule out of all 6 teams, which suggests a lot of luck and simply outperforming their expected record, which they did the most of the lot when you factor in the SRS+SOS (the tSRS stat I used.)
Simply put, they're the worst 15-win team in NFL history. Yes, the 15-win mark is still impressive, but they needed the most help of the six to get there.

1. '85 Bears
2. '84 Naners
3. '98 Vikings
4. '04 Steelers
5. '11 Packers
6. '15 Panthers

The stats bear this out for the most part as well. They can't all be SB champs, but, you know, AGS.

Brady will be at the top of the default order until he retires, then Rodgers. They might as well rename MVP Quarterback of the Year and make another achievement award for dudes that break or get close to the rushing/receiving/sack records. Hearing the muh most valuable position in sports shit whenever MVP is discussed is getting fucking obnoxious.
>>
>>76237918
Brady probably won't be voted MVP again because muh scandals, though, whereas Rodgers has the "default elite QB who isn't Brady" quality that Peyton had throughout his career.

>another achievement award for dudes that break or get close to the rushing/receiving/sack records
that's what OPOTY/DPOTY are for
>>
>>76237964
they gave brady two mvps after spygate retard
>>
>>76237964

Brady already seems to be the consensus best QB ever among the current sports writers, and since they're the ones that pick MVP I don't think it's too much of a stretch for them to give it to him during whatever years he has left, scandals or not. To be fair I don't think Rodgers would have to do too much better than him to pull it away, but if they have similar stats I think Brady would be the default choice, especially since the Patriots are almost always in line for a first round bye. And that's true with the OPOTY/DPOTY, but I'd rather make another award above those two and split the QB's off into their own category. There's no point in pretending MVP is anything else but the QB award 95% of the time unless someone has a crazy rushing year.

...which were both before the deflategate bullshit. any non-Pats fan more likely than not believes Brady is guilty in that failed "sting operation", or otherwise hates him for whatever reason, and that audience includes AP MVP voters. Even if Brady threw 60 TDs with 30 to Brandin Cooks in 2017, I doubt there would be enough non-haters to vote rationally when it comes to Brady.

>>76238140
I totally agree that the AP MVP is basically "Best QB," which was the whole point of my original post >>76236656 here, and furthermore that, now that Peyton is retired and Brady had to endure another "scandal", Rodgers is the default choice for the league's best QB, mainly because he puts up gaudy stats like Peyton did even if his playoff success is mixed.
>>
>>76238292
>any non-Pats fan more likely than not believes Brady is guilty in that failed "sting operation
not true at all, most people just got tired of hearing about deflategate, hell most wanted to see Goodell give the trophy to Brady

>Even if Brady threw 60 TDs with 30 to Brandin Cooks in 2017, I doubt there would be enough non-haters to vote rationally when it comes to Brady.

please, if baseball voters have enough integrity to vote for Barry Bonds and A-rod for mvp I don't see why football writers couldn't vote for Brady especially when they gave him two after a scandal, which while severely overblown, actually had a degree of reality to it unlike deflategate.

watching basketball again in the post season always reminds me how rigged and corrupt the entire NBA is. It's so obvious the way they call games to give the underdog the chance to win the game to prolong the series. because more games means more money for the NBA. I mean niggers are throwing direct elbows to peoples temples, kicking eachother in the balls, stepping on ankles outright and then some guy tugs a jersey while defending and he gets a foul. basketball is beyond redemption until they get the jews out from management.
point shaving seems to still be a thing. also they manage games like WWE. kobe got 90 points his last game because the other team was told to let him ball out on them.
Baseball is more corrupt in the way it will cover shit up to protect its image or star players. outside bodies had to investigate it. but as far as the outcomes of games I dont think there is any corruption. they just want the games to end. gambling and roids. but thats all sports.
NFL officiating seems to be on the level. I mean there are tons of bullshit calls that I always suspected. MAYBE they try and get bigger market teams the upper hand in the playoffs.
but on the whole I really think the NFL refs do a good job. I mean I think something is bullshit or question a call and they do slo mo replay and these fucking refs really notice everything. not to mention you have almost 2 dozen guys all fighting instantly and you gotta cover all the bases and keep your eyes on them all because everyone is trying to play dirty.
I guess holding and PI penalties not getting called or getting called when they shouldn't is a small price. I mean shady shit at an organizational level but overall they aren't rigging games. wonder what Las Vegas is gonna bring in oversight now.
I mean we bitch but compared to the NBA or FIFA or even the Olympics the NFL isn't a fraction as corrupt. I think its like cycling where everyone is doping and its hard to catch.
NCAA football seems more questionable.

you joking? Cavs only lost 1 game and the Warriors went undefeated in the postseason. I know the NBA is rigged, but they don't give a shit about that. Not to mention, even if Pachulia's foul was intentional, I doubt the league advocates for injuring players as a way to rig games, especially if they injure a big shot like Leonard.

MLB is corrupted but rarely fix games, they just ignore certain juicers until they stop producing and then they fuck them up.

NFL likes to favor big teams but only when they're up against small markets.

But yeah, nothing will ever come close to FIFA or the IOC.

His job's never been in jeopardy. Anyone who was even slightly aware of what he was doing knew the Raiders were going to suck for a few years after his hiring. Completely gutting Al Davis's 2011 team over the course of two seasons will do that. Mack and Carr are gonna get paid and Reggie will structure their contracts so that they won't sink the Raiders going into the future.

Well for a start there are reports that Carr is already uncomfortable about the lack of progress in his new deal and giving a young QB a best-paid type of deal without losing a great chunk of space seems a little hard. Same with a young pass rusher.
>>
>>76244537

Im not arguing the veracity of the actual outcomes
>>
>>76244735
Maybe but I doubt anyone can really know to what extent the refs are instructed to influence a game.

Rigged/Fixed is the most extreme form of refball. Most sport leagues are corrupt but I'm skeptical any are truly rigged just from all the people on the inside that would have to make it work.

Only thing close to real evidence is the 2002 WCF and it's nothing substantial.

Obviously now it's very easy to say all the "interpretations" were fake, and that the final rush when they won 3 of their last 6 wasn't a factor.
>>

>ESPN
>>Bill "Chargers and Raiders will move to LA, I can confirm" Williamson
>Sep 30, 2014

and bleacher report is another extension of ESPN but the point is if mark was going to fire reggie he would have done it in 2015 but didn't because
1.Reggie inherited the worst mess of a franchise ever
1a.millions in dead cap
1b.majority of players are veterans
1c.stadium was virtually the biggest deciding factor for free agents
1d.shit coach , staff remained.
2.It is a process , a long process and mark davis knew that he worked alongside his father since he was child. He saw first hand how long it can take to rebuild a terrible franchise
>>
>>76245046
to add on this I forgot to mention last year was the final year they had dead money from the "dark era"

So again they are a new team and have a competent coach that showed his worth last year.

the only issue reggie has is some of his draft picks are VERY hit and miss but his first three rounds tend to always be solid
>>
>>76245046
>>76245085
I know Reggie inherited a really bad situation with lots of franchise-sinking contracts. He flopped on his first HC hire and lots of times the GM isn't far away from being fired.

He was quick acknowledging his mistake and that's a point in his favor though.

And you are acting like I'm saying he's going to get fired next year, I only said that the seat was getting warm on him back in 2014 ffs.

Any report you read saying Carr is disappointed in the lack of progress or lack of contract talks is just fake news trying to get clicks during the dead seasons. He'll be signed no problem and he's said multiple times that it's nothing to worry about

obviously Carr and Mack will be signed, but how the raiders a. structure their contracts and b. build around their contracts will determine if they're going to sustain their success

Brady will be 40 this season, he'll be lucky if he's not shattered into 9000 pieces during some random play in Sept/Oct

They've been saying that the last 5 years. Anyone, any position, any time can get suddenly hurt. Look at Carr lol

Anyone can get hurt. It's just easier to get hurt the older you get.

Do take the time to remember than he was in the midst of choking away the Owl last year until the Falcons handed it to him on a silver platter.

People in their 40s can handle a silver platter easier than stairs or running the 40-yd-dash, nawmsayin'?
