Ferrari were worried. The thing is after the pit Kimi immediately, they then saw Bottas's actual pace on the fresh tyres, at that point they realised there was no threat. So why pit Vettel when he is starting to drive significantly faster?

The intention initially was not to favour Vettel it was to secure 1st for Kimi.
Then when they saw Vettel could get 1st off Kimi they went ahead with their new plan of leaving him out.

There is no denying Vettel is their #1, the point is that they did not pit Kimi to favour Vettel. They Pit Kimi to get a Ferrari 1st place, then they saw the possibility to give Vettel 1st place over Kimi. They then went with a new plan that was only made post Kimi pit.

>Kimi too slow
When Kimi came out the pits he set some very quick laps, including two in the 1:15s. In fact, if you look at both drivers' first four full laps on the supersofts (after the out lap), Kimi's were 2.303 second quicker overall. That's a big difference!

>>76214004
>There is no denying Vettel is their #1, the point is that they did not pit Kimi to favour Vettel. They Pit Kimi to get a Ferrari 1st place, then they saw the possibility to give Vettel 1st place over Kimi. They then went with a new plan that was only made post Kimi pit.
Well I'm glad we finally agree that Ferrari deliberately left Vettel out when they could (and in my opinion, should) have called him in.

>>76214038

Ultimately I'm not the person that turned me into a meme. I just supported Hamilton, and people seem to not like that just because he's black. (I understand there are other reasons not to like him - I also think he's prissy. But people just come back to race quite a lot.)

Some guy thought it would be funny to knock up that image of the black guy sitting at the computer.

I'm just a random Hamilton supporter, that's it. Although like I say, I don't think he's perfect. He's a twat sometimes. I just like supporting British drivers - same with Button, same with Coulthard, same even with Max Chilton and Will Stevens. Hell, I'd love Joe/Lee/Palmer to do better (but that probably won't happen).

Also, replying to multiple posts in one post is more efficient. Who wants to fill out the Captcha over and over?

No one at any point ever denied that Vettel is their #1.
The point is that it's not a conspiracy. It never was a conspiracy. There was no grand master secret plan.
The intention of calling Kimi into the pits wasn't to give the lead to Vettel, but after calling Kimi in it opened up an option to give the lead to Vettel. So naturally they took it as that's what they want.

Your opinion here is Ted's >He has a moral obligation to let Hamilton past tier. Remember that whole chestnut and how disgusting the proposition of that was?

>>
>>76215234
To be fair he qualified 14th because of McLaren too

Though he was trying to go for perfect set up when the car wasn't working. Bottas said something like that the front tyres took 4 laps to get working and the rears took 2 or something like that. Bottas was fine doing a decent lap were Lewlew had to do better than Bottas so he cruised around for 10 laps trying to get into the perfect wondow. Then couldn't get a lap down.

He was TOTAL SHIT in 2014, yes the car was shit, but Alonso still destroyed his ass. He was pretty shit in 2015 with a race winning car. He was irrelevant last year in a shit car. But now he has a clear WDC contender and he is still shit while his team mate mis leading the championship. Just fuck off already and stop crying. If he really wanted (or was able) to win races, he would have done so by now, but it's been 4 fucking years since he last won a race.

Was actually thinking about this the other day.
How often have we heard sob stories from drivers about how poor their families were, and how hard it was when they were young. Lewis in particular.

But look at pics of them when they were kids, and most of them have perfect straight teeth.
IMO, if you can afford expensive as fuck dental work, you're not "poor" poor.

The only recent drivers I can think of who fixed their teeth after they made it to F1 and started making decent money is Maldonado and Ricciardo, who got braces.
>>
>>76216005
I have barely ever been to the dentist in my whole life (I'm 20) and my teeth are almost perfect aside from the fact that they look kinda yellow because I smoke.

Alonso thinks the only team that has "shut doors" for 2018 is Red Bull.

(Translated from Spanish)

>"Can you pick the car you want to run?", Counterattacks Calleja. To what Alonso responds: "I think so. If in June or July I will call any team I think it would have possibilities. But all is negotiating, of course. Maybe Red Bull is the only one that has the doors a little closed because it already has very young drivers with long-term contract".

>At that point, Calleja decides to attack with all the heavy artillery and formulates his most incisive question without walking through the branches: "you will not already have hidden under the table a pre-contract that says that you go to Mercedes in 2018 if the thing goes good on Mercedes?" Alonso does not shy away from the answer. "If the thing goes well in Mercedes and I like the Formula 1 that comes", seems to confirm the Asturian.

>"If in June or July a team calls I think we would have a chance but it's all to be talked about.

>"I think perhaps Red Bull is the only one that has doors a little closed because it already has young drivers with long contracts.

>>
>>76221719
They fucked him over. If they had cared about giving Kimi a fair chance to win then they would have asked Seb to pit straight after Kimi - they would COMFORTABLY still retain the 1-2.

But they didn't, obviously. Because they wanted Seb to win. So it wasn't a fair competition. It was a favourability towards Sebastian. Of course we all know why they would do that. For championship points. It would be nice if Ferrari admitted their favourability though - but obviously they won't.

If we look back to Bahrain, we see that Mercedes' decision to give pole-winner Bottas a fair crack at winning the race actually COST THEM THE VICTORY. If they had ordered Bottas to let Hamilton through earlier, then Hamilton would have reeled in Vettel and possibly won the race.

You know Ferrari were favourable to Vettel. I know that they were favourable to Vettel. But Ferrari won't admit it, because they're a slimy team, like always.

I've read multiple articles saying that Dave Greenwood, Kimi's race engineer, was also very unhappy after the race, while the whole rest of the team was celebrating the 1-2.

I think Ferrari deliberately left Kimi and Dave in the dark about the effectiveness of the overcut.

Martin Brundle wrote on Sky News today that he thinks Ferrari would probably have known about the overcut - he says a "broadly held view" in the paddock was that the overcut would be effective.

I think Ferrari quietly refrained from discussing this with Mr. Greenwood or his driver. For championship reasons, of course.

Absolutely not, because Kimi would have come in straight after Seb wouldn't he? So seb would have no way to perform the undercut. Which is even more deliberate sabotage than what actually happened.
>>
>>76223200

VET and RIC were just much faster than their teammates this week, no matter the strategy Vettel would've overtaken, he was held up by Kimi. He would have undercut him in one lap no problem

>>76223280
If they pitted Seb first from 2nd, then he'd come out and probably start doing quick laps to try and get the undercut. Then Kimi would come straight in wouldn't he? So Seb would never get the undercut done. Unless Ferrari deliberately left Kimi out, to allow Seb to do the undercut, which is blatantly obvious favouritism.

Is Jenson Button's 2004 season underrated?

Whenever you here someone judging Buttons F1 career, it's all about 2009 and 2011 and his Hungary win in 2006.

People always sideline his amazing 2006 and 2014 season, and most of all his 2004 season where he was just outstanding.

85 points in the 2-3rd fastest car (Montoya got less in the fastest the year before), without the possibility of a race win against the Ferraris. Those points were out of sheer relentless consistency. The fact that Takuma Sato, an Indy 500 winning teammate, got only 34 points says a lot. He also got a pole position and was generally a better driver than Alonso (who had an amazing 2003) that season - not many seasons where you can say that.

Why is this season never mentioned?
>>
>>76224780

By god its a RELENTLESS post and I didn't even have to modify it
>>
>>76224621
Just stop, how many times do we have to prove your wrong.
At the time they called Kimi into the pits he was on the best strategy. See F1's video here >>76218342 and see this post yesterday >>76214004. Vettel then found speed that rivaled people qualifying times, he didn't expect it, his team didn't, the engineers and strategists didn't expect it. This speed caused the change in strategy which meant Kimi was no longer Ferrari's favourite to win. If Kimi was a faster driver he would have been backed to win the race but he wasn't the faster driver. Kimi was given a fair chance but he wasn't quick enough to retain the win and therefore Ferrari's favour.
There is no conspiracy just the natural change of strategy as the data at hand changes and as the race progresses.
There is not blatant screwing over of Kimi just him not being a quick enough driver.
The quicker driver won the race and is that not what racing is about?

It is a spec series so they could remove them and everyone would deal their absence equally. I think the idea is that in addition to whatever downforce/drag improvements, it also gives a cleaner flow of air to the trailing car which helps promote closer racing in corners.

I agree that they look a bit funny being that large, the best was when they were smaller because of regs in the early 90s.

You're talking about the front wing height.
The simply reality is that tires are draggy as hell and directing airflow above them alleviates some of it. If other open wheel Formula's allowed the wings to go that high, then everyone would do it.

You haven't proven shit. The reaction of Kimi and his race engineer Dave Greenwood shows they were left in the fucking dark. Ferrari always planned on giving Seb the chance to overcut.

If Ferrari cared about fairness then they would have pitted Seb straight after Kimi. That's what Mercedes used to do. But they didn't care about fairness, because they wanted Seb to win, it's fucking simple.

They should have given Kimi the best strategy to win. That's what teams normally do for the driver that has qualified on pole. But they didn't do that, because they didn't want to. Because they didn't want him to win.

They and everyone else on the grid have said that they didn't know if the overcut or undercut would work. Everyone has commented on how Vettel found new pace that was incredible and unexpected. So no they didn't always plan what happened.
>If Ferrari cared about fairness then they would have pitted Seb straight after Kimi. That's what Mercedes used to do. But they didn't care about fairness, because they wanted Seb to win, it's fucking simple.
If they cared about fairness they would sabotage Vettel's race when he is faster? That doesn't sound fair to me at all... Ferrari isn't Mercedes so using their "fair" strategy as a yard stick doesn't really work there, apples and oranges.
>They should have given Kimi the best strategy to win. That's what teams normally do for the driver that has qualified on pole. But they didn't do that, because they didn't want to. Because they didn't want him to win.
They did give him the faster strategy, they gave Kimi the optimal strategy. Vettel was faster than Kimi so it didn't work as planned.

The side pod, known formally as a "Flick" is doing the same things though, decreasing drag, increasing DF, and directing air around the tires.
If they were allowed in other OW series, they would be used.
I recall some F1 cars in the last 15 years having some smaller flicks before the rear wheels. Some of the Hondas did.
CART/Indycar have always had them in some fashion in the last 30 years.

And he was always among my 3 favorite drivers on the grid since 2007 but this is getting out of hand. It's obvious that he is total shit nowadays. Where was he when Vettel needed his help in Australia, China and Bahrain?
He should just be have that he is in Ferrari in the first place, given chance, Perez, Riccardo, Sainz and Bottas would definitely do a lot better than him in the same car.

Twenty races a year and still people can't accept that there is one that is a little bit different. Monaco isn't about the race. It's a fight between the driver and the barriers. It's the glammer and prestige surrounding the place. People underestimate that the drivers love it and that even watching the race from the stands is a thrill because you're so close to the cars.

Sure I love wheel to wheel action as the next petrolhead, but Monaco is that one exception to the general rule that it needs overtaking to be interesting. If it's that much to handle, just skip it and leave the others to enjoy it in peace. There's nineteen other races per year to keep one occupied. Canada is up next and should well compensate us in terms of overtaking.

Monaco will remain a part of F1 for as long as it continues to exist. Deal with it.

>get fucked over by your team in strategy
If Ferrari wanted to support their pole-sitter (which teams NORMALLY DO) then they would have shared the best strategy with Kimi and his race engineer wouldn't they? And Kimi's race engineer would have told him "Kimi, you really need to push on that first stint, otherwise you'll be fucked in the ass"

You could say the race engineer said this to him, but I seriously fucking doubt it, because:
1) It did not seem as if Kimi was pushing very hard, let's be honest. He was just managing a comfortable pace at the front.
2) Kimi's race engineer was unhappy after the race, and didn't want to celebrate the 1-2 with the team. So I think he probably felt he was fucked over as well. Surely if he had been included on the Ferrari meetings on strategy, and they were all on the same page, then Kimi's engineer wouldn't be sad? Instead he would think "well I told Kimi what to do, and he didn't deliver, the idiot. Not my responsibility - I told him what to do, and he didn't do it."

AT THE VERY LEAST they would have known that the overcut was a THREAT. So why did they not tell Kimi that he needs to get a move on in that first stint? Everything suggests that he wasn't told this - in fact he wasn't really given any strategy information at all. AND HOW FUCKING CONVENIENT THAT FERRARI WAITED FIVE LAPS TO BRING SEB IN. Why the fuck did they not tell him to come in straight away? BECAUSE THEY WANTED VETTEL TO WIN, OBVIOUSLY

THEY FUCKED KIMI OVER IN THE FUCKING STRATEGY, YOU FUCKING IDIOT. THEY SHOULD HAVE BROUGHT SEB IN STRAIGHT AWAY TO RETAIN THE 1-2.

Lol people got used to Mercs "fair strat" that meant race till pits and thats it. Well, it might have worked when they had minimum 1s advantage on field. Now they dont so you people can forget about that. To even entertain the idea that Ferrari would pit Sebastian when he was doing 15s laps just so they can be "fair" to Kimi for being dead slow is pretty autistic desu.

Btw Kimis advantage of 1.1s before pitstop is nothing. Even pitting Vettel next doesnt mean he would not pass him as his pit stop and inlap where 1s slower.

He is just fucking slow thats all.

If they were being fair to the guy who had won pole position then they would have pulled Seb into the pits, and made him do an overtake on track if he wanted to win the race

They had no interest in doing this, because they wanted Vettel to win, it's as simple as that

It's a shame they wanted to fuck Kimi over like that - I hope he quits because there's no fucking point in him being at a team that's going to just stab him in the back and ruin his race when he does everything right in the weekend up to that point.

No, you are retarded for thinking this. Faster drivers always win out over pole winners. Kimi had an incredible qualification lap, Sebastian had better race pace so he won the race.

You always wank on about Mercedes, did they ever sabotage Rosberg or Hamiltons race when they passed one or the other on the first lap to favour the pole sitter?
No, see Australia, Bahrain, Monaco, Hungary, Germany and Italy last year. Every one of those races the driver who was behind in qualy beat the driver in front of them.

I have no idea where you got this retarded ideas that slower race pace drivers deserve to win but it is absolutely retarded.

Are you geniuenly retarded or is this your first F1 race? Do you SERIOUSLY think being fair would be calling in faster guy in pits next lap because...the guy that day before got pole fucked up his tires and needed to pit, yet even then didnt make any sort of buffer between himself and teammate?

Boy are you autistic...Vettel qualified 2nd, he was right in Kimis gearbox the lap Kimi pitted (he even asked are they pitting yet), he then posted few laps Kimi couldnt dream about doing on US and that was it, race won. Do you seriously think they will be "fair" and even sabbotage driver that is directly competing for WDC for 38yr old whos last victory was decade ago? Ferrari were more then fair. If I were behind pit wall I would tell Kimi to fuck off on first lap.

Deal was to pit leading car first and that was Kimi, guy even wanted to pit. The fact that he was slow as fuck and you have to be special kind of retard to think Ferrari will halt faster guy (who has double the pts) just to be "fair".

Kimi should have tried to pull a gap on his own, Seb was just out of DRS range as the pit delta approached, Kimi probably couldn't open a gap to Vettel if he tried.

Apparently Vettel's management contacted media / fan sites and asked them to remove the pic of Hanna with their kids.
As far I've found they've all complied.

I'm sure they do far more than that and even in the public eye. The press seems to really respect Ferrari saying don't take photos of them ect.

I'm sure they are thankful that they can live a relatively normal life. They can go out in public without being harassed, they can go to a regular school and be actual normal kids rather than Vettel's kid ect

Was this after or before pre season testing, if it was after testing then yes what a retard, if it was before testing then it's not so hard to believe. Apart from if RedBull were good it would obviously be >HIS TIME hence if Max were 2nd in the championship it would only be because Ricciardo was first.

As far as I know Perez and Fat John have contracts that end at the end of this season. Sainz is also in a similar position. I expect one of these three will replace Joe, Lee and Palmer

If you're gonna have a shitter scoring 0 points you might as well have someone that pays for his seat.

tbf a 6-1 is kinda odd, I don't expect Magnussen to be considered at the same level of Fat John for Haas so it's obvious they want Grosjean to drive more but I'd have expected a 4-3 or 5-2, especially because Grosjean will likely leave this year

four theories

1) because Romain is ahead in WDC

3) Gio will learn more driving alongside Romain because he's a better/more experienced driver and can help set up the car better
4) Haas don't care how they treat Kmag all that much
