Watching the race replay, Pat Symonds comes on and quite clearly explains it wasn't a stitch up.

Raikkonen was dropping to 1:17:500s on the US and struggling, both cars were doing similar lap times yet Vettel as a bit quicker. He says the only course of action is put fresh tyres on Raikkonen and he quite explicitly sates that they couldn't have know that Vettel was capable of doing 1:16:100s - 1:15:500s after getting clear air, and he then says that if they pitted Vettel first Ricciardo would have been in the box seat to pull the entire rug out from underneath Ferrari as he was also lapping about a second quicker than Raikkonen as well.

Crofty, Ted and Sky narrative team can stir the pot all they want but people who actually know what it is to make those sorts of calls can point to this and say it wasn't intended, the person who made this work was Vettel by him actually putting in the lap times needed when it mattered.
