Sato wins Indy 500 after once scoring over 30 times less points than Jenson Button in the same car in F1 in 2005
Alonso dominates the whole race and is by far best driver on the grid at Indy until he got screwed by strategy and his (((engine))) blew up

Season standings:

1. Sebastian Vettel - 129
2. Lewis Hamilton - 104
3. Valtteri Bottas - 75
4. Kimi Raikkonen - 67

Sato was so lucky to win that one. Well deserved though as the whole race is a meme

Old drivers are boring. We need Indylights but in in Indycars with no preparation doing the 500

Monaco ((fans)) are rich celebrities that aren't even watching the race and talking amongst themselves.

Indy 500 are 400,000 locals and travelers in Midwest that grew up as mechanics, local racers, drag racers, etc. Of the 400,000 attendies of Indy 500, I'd say 99.9% change their own oil. 0.01% of Monaco crowd change their own oil of their Bentley.

In the first stint I don't think he was that slow, he had a decent gap on Vet a few times but then they got to the lapped cars and it bunched him back up to Vet, then they pit him. You're exactly right. KIMI SHOULD HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE BEST STRATEGY - which of course would have been pitting second, because pitting him first was literal suicide.

Shittel fags can't face the fact that Kimi absolutely HUMILIATED HIM in qualifying, so they have to make up bullshit to try and justify why he can't win the Monaco Grand Prix unless his team rigs it for him. Jej.

>>76187887
Imagine being this delusional.

Tell me why Shittel fags keep LYING and saying that Kimi ASKED to be pitted? He didn't - HE WAS ORDERED TO (see picture related). On the radio he ASKED if he was pitting.

Shittel fags can't face the fact that Kimi beat him fair and square in qualifying, and that he should have been given the best strategy in the race - as any other team would have done (Mercedes gave Bottas the fairest chance in Bahrain - it was only AFTER Sebastian had taken the lead, and was pulling away every lap, and Hamilton had better tyres, that they asked Bottas to switch. The crucial difference is that THEY DIDN'T MAKE BOTTAS GIVE UP A RACE-WINNING POSITION).

Shittel fags know full well that Kimi earned his pole position, that Shittel just wasn't good enough, and only by having the team rig the race for him was he able to get those points that Ferrari desperately wanted him to have.

The winners of Indy 500 don't care if they are leading from lap 1-100.

-Fuel/Rev settings for long haul at start of the race. Race Position doesn't matter yet. Just be in the top half all race.

-On lap 150/200, be in the top 8.

-On lap 180/200, be in the top 4

-On final 15 laps start pushing your car to the limit to get to 1st, 2nd or 3rd. On the last 5 laps give it the beans to sling shot ahead.

Alonso blew his engine because he ran 110% all race when everyone else had their engine settings on cruise

>if he was faster Vettel would have been behind Raikkonen after the pit
Vettel was left out on the fastest tyre and was in clean air, AND HE KNEW HE WAS ABOUT TO BE PITTED, so he didn't have to worry about conservation, he just hammered it.

What about Kimi, did he know what was happening? Looks like the team didn't tell him at all - apart from suddenly that they wanted to pit him.

>Amid suggestions his race strategy was chosen in a way that would benefit Vettel’s title hopes, when asked why he pitted when he did, Raikkonen added: “I was called in. That is about it.

>“Obviously they had reasons for it, but it is not up to me to answer.

>“I can stop the car if I like [in the pits] as I am driving it, but we work as a team and if you don’t believe what you have been told or how it works it will get very complicated.

>“Today as a team we wanted a one-two, it happened, but for myself, I could have done a bit better. I haven’t seen the big picture, I only know that we came second.

>“The team got a one-two, which is great for the team, but the rest – until we have meetings and we can see all the graphs I don’t know.”

Notice that part about "if you don't believe what you have been told... it will get very complicated". Kimi trusted the team to give him the best strategy. And they deliberately fucked him over.

>>76188162

>>
>>76188221
I'm not even a Kimi fan lol

I'm just pointing out that Ferrari gave Vettel the better strategy intentionally, because they left Vettel out while Kimi was told to come in early

I'm not suggesting Kimi should have won or that Ferrari are literally Saatana
>>
>>76187997
This faggot literally wants Vettel to go slower so Kimi can retain the lead but cries about team orders when they go the other way

What a fucking hypocrite
>>
>>76188275
Would you say that Vettel deserved the better strategy because he was clearly the fastest man on the grid today?

The usual "if he's so fast he can overtake on the track" doesn't apply here.
>>
>>76188106
Got him out*
>>
>>76188212
Hopefully he will come back to Indy another year. I think he can win it for certain if he tries a couple more times
>>
>>76188154
Normal strategy is to pit the one blocking the front, specially if you're redbull. Amx got Webber'd
>>
I can't believe people care this much. Team orders aren't illegal and Vettel's Ferrari's best hope for the title in a decade. Of course they're going to back him. Imagine if they lost the drivers championship by a handful of points!
>>
>>76188271
>Vettel was left out on the fastest tyre and was in clean air, AND HE KNEW HE WAS ABOUT TO BE PITTED, so he didn't have to worry about conservation, he just hammered it.
NO
Raikkonen was slower even with Ultrasoft before the pit
>What about Kimi, did he know what was happening? Looks like the team didn't tell him at all - apart from suddenly that they wanted to pit him.
you are memeing now
>Kimi trusted the team to give him the best strategy.
KIMI HAD TO PUSH 3 LAPS BEFORE THE PIT TO STAY AHEAD OF SEB
that's it, he didn't, same with Vestappen
>>
>>76188275
You do know they can't really make Vettel do anything right? If the tyres were still good why on earth should he pit?

If Kimi wasn't slow he would have retained the lead. You act like an overcut is instant lead position.

If they told Vettel to slow down that would be the least sportsmanlike thing possible.

The reason Vettel won is precisely cause there were no team orders.
>>
>>76188339
IT WASN'T A TEAM ORDER

This is called RACING, within the team.
>>
>>76188302
Kimi was leading and if he was faster than Vet he could've opened a gap during the first stint. After all Vet was running in his dirty air etc. He didn't and it was obvious that right before the first stops Bot and the red bulls were gaining on the Ferraris. For me the only bad decision was not pitting him a lap or two before that in order to avoid the lapped cars, but again it would've been the same, cause the ultrasofts were simply faster.

Every time I see a NASCAR thread, I just shake my head and laugh.

You severely damaged losers are literally the Bronies of /sp/. You know, that sub-group of 4chan kids who obsess over the preschool girl show My Little Pony? You probably don't know since all of you pathetic losers are far too busy fapping to NASCAR drivers and wishing that NASCAR was relevant. Why on earth would a group of you no-lives cling heavily to something as sad as this? Is there some sort of mental sickness in you guys? Did you not have a childhood? Do you not have a grasp on reality? How can you allow yourselves to deteriorate to this?

At first, I figured it was one lonely kid making these threads and bumping all day while crying in the basement for being such a useless waste of life... but then, I realized this isn't one kid doing this. There are at least fifteen of you in these threads that are getting hard over NASCAR. There isn't any doubt that all of you autists are fat, out of shape, and friendless.

Is that the thrill you kids get from these threads? Is it the fact that they can only turn left and can't even get off of your bed to empty out your piss bottle? Do you not realize that this board doesn't exist for you and your sick fetish? If not, then
WHAT THE FUCK IS YOUR FIXATION?

I'm speaking for /sp/ as a whole, and possibly, your families as well. Just stop. This isn't healthy. Stop now and try to live a regular life. How embarrassed must your family feel when they have to explain to your aunt and uncle that you want to spend you life watching an inferior form of motorsport.

Just stop already. Quit with the silly threads. OP, delete this thread. Kids, clear your browser history and delete all the files you have of shitty NASCAR drivers.

NASCAR is for dumb retarded hillbillies who can't comprehend cars with more than 4 gears or circuits with more than 4 turns. Not a single one of those retarded redneck NASCAR drivers would last more than 2 laps at Monaco
>>

When did I say Vettel should slow down? All I'm saying is Ferrari intentionally gave Vettel the better strategy to get him past Kimi. You're getting a little bit worked up here, Felix.
>>
>>76188361
It was totally a team order.

They totally fucked Kimi right in the ass with a big black Italian sausage.
>>
>>76188339
Shittel cumguzzlers can't even admit it was team orders though, that's the funniest part.

They can't face the fact that Kimi was simply faster in qualifying. They can't face that he simply wasn't good enough to win the race by himself so the team had to rig the race for him.

>>76188361
Except it was a team order. They told Kimi to stop. And it seemed like Kimi didn't really know what was going on, he just trusted the team.

He trusted the team to give him the best strategy. And they deliberately fucked him over.
>>
>>76188395
it's called Racing
>>
>>76188421
There were totally team orders, and they were issued to fuck over Kimi instead of supporting him to win the race.
>>
I saw Sebastian Vettel at the FIA headquarters in Paris yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.

He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”

I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and waving his finger in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen World Championships in his hands without paying.

Bernie at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Seb, you need to let me rig those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear him, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When he took one of the championships and started rigging it multiple times, he stopped him and told him to rig them each individually “to prevent any teammate infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After he scanned each championship and put them in a bag and started to say the dicksucking price, he kept interrupting him by going YES YES YES YES GRAZIE RAGAZZI really loudly.

least of all Vettel, what is he supposed to do?
>>
>>76188341
>Raikkonen was slower
Can you give me some lap times so I can see? I haven't seen what the lap times were.

Let's be totally honest - if Ferrari wanted Kimi to win (they should have supported him because he had won pole FAIR AND SQUARE, just like Mercedes have supported Bottas when he has been in race-winning positions) then they would have said to him "Kimi we need you to push hard now, so that you will still be in front of Seb after we pit him".

Notice that they didn't say that? They didn't say jack shit. Which is why Kimi said in the post-race interviews:

>“I was called in. That is about it. Obviously they had reasons for it, but it is not up to me to answer.
>“I can stop the car if I like [in the pits] as I am driving it, but we work as a team and if you don’t believe what you have been told or how it works it will get very complicated.

He was trusting them, and they deliberately fucked him over.

>KIMI HAD TO PUSH 3 LAPS BEFORE THE PIT
Can you give me a radio message when the team told him to do this? Or a radio message when they told him that he would be coming in in 3 laps time? I could be wrong, but I think they basically said to him "box now, box now".
>>
>>76188456
100% no multi 21 type team orders to tell Gimi to go slow so Sebastian can go faster later and pass him

There were engineer instructions to push/comserve/tell the driver to box ect, but that's not what we are talking about.

Of course we can wait for the full radio transcripts to be released but you won't find anything to support your team order argument

"Racing" is what happens on the track when the drivers decide the outcome based on their driving skill.

That doesn't exist in F1, as the cars aren't anywhere near being balanced in performance, and the teams intentionally manipulate their favorite drivers success or failure.

True, but how it works the tyres is an inherent feature of the car, like how the Lotuses in 2012 and 2013 were kind on the tyres so were faster in races than a car with their amount of downforce normally would be

But he's not, they're very closely matched

I reckon Mercedes still has the power advantage, so tracks with long straights they're better on.

But Ferrari's sidepods are very clever - I think they have the aerodynamic advantage. And clearly they're making the tyres work much better.

>>76188827
>Obviously it was Kimi's fault since he was in the lead.
Ferrari didn't even tell Kimi to push, they didn't tell him shit, they didn't tell him when he would be pitting, he just trusted them, and they suddenly ordered him to pit. He trusted this was correct, he even said as much after the race. But the team had fucked him. They deliberately gave the opportunity for Vettel to hammer out laps. Why? Because they want Vettel to win and they don't want Kimi to win.

Remember how Mercedes used to insist that their drivers pit within a lap of each other, to avoid such a situation? That's because Mercedes were always committed to the idea of fair racing. Ferrari aren't, and never have been. Nothing new from the most unsporting team in F1.

In Bahrain he had already lost the race winning position. Vettel was ahead, and Bottas was losing time. Hamilton was quicker. Bottas was struggling for pace. Bottas clearly wasn't going to get the victory - they thought Lewis was the best chance of reeling in Seb, which he did (as much as he could).

In Russia Bottas won the race leadership for himself, and the team obviously didn't order him to give it up or anything.

In this race, Ferrari deliberately fucked up Raikkonen's race winning position so that Vettel could grab it, because they want Vettel to win - simple as that

So you admit it was team orders then?

>Mercedes use team orders to help Lewis:

Bottas wasn't in a race-winning position. They weren't asking him to give up a race win. When Bottas had qualified on pole in Bahrain, they supported him being out in front, EVEN AFTER VETTEL HAD CLAIMED THE LEAD. It was only towards the very end of the race, when Bottas was clearly losing time against Seb, that they asked him to switch.

Mercedes support the driver who has track position at the time. Ferrari didn't.
>>
>>76189323

Oh yeah Spain too, Mercedes supported the driver who had track position (Lewis).

>Vettel was catching Kimi
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Kimi had come across the backmarkers by then, who he had to lap? Thus slowing him down. Is that not right?

>he was finally in clean air he clocked off 6 straight fastest sectors
Kimi could have pushed if he knew what was happening. My reading is that he didn't. Again correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think the team said to him "okay Kimi, push now for a few laps before you pit". They just told him, out of the blue, "okay Kimi, box now".

Vettel obviously knew he could stay out - and another thing to notice, did Ferrari say "Seb we need you to come in the lap after Kimi"? This is what Mercedes used to do with Lewis and Nico, to make sure it's fair. I think Lewis ignored that on one occasion and stayed out - but at least the team were doing their best to make it fair.

Ferrari didn't make such an order, as far as I'm aware. Because they quite clearly wanted Vettel to win. There's also no way they didn't know that the overcut was the better strategy. These teams do not make pit stops unless they know where the car is going to come out.

>Yeah, it was obvious that Kimi got fucked by the team
I agree

>Vettel was considerably faster.
If the team had told Kimi to push, then I am sure he would have been just as fast - look at how he performed in qualifying. There's no reason to think he wouldn't have smashed out some top laps if he had been told to do so.

I think from Kimi's body language it's clear what's happened - Kimi knows the team favours Seb. He also knows he's not allowed to publicly say this. Otherwise, he would be just like Rosberg or Webber (or Hamilton or Vettel) would've been in that situation - causing a ruckus with the team and saying "HOW COULD YOU GIVE ME THIS STRATEGY! YOU WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS BETTER FOR SEB! WHY DID YOU FUCK ME!"

Kimi didn't protest. Because he knows the score. He knows Ferrari want Vettel to win. He's paid to keep his mouth shut.
>>
>>76190030
He would have had to get past Castro who was trailing behind Takuma Sato.

>>76189694
>There was no team orders today
Apart from the team order telling Kimi to pit (he did not ask to pit, he asked WHEN he was pitting, and he was told to pit, like he confirmed in post-race interviews), when Ferrari would very obviously have known that the overcut was the better strategy.

Engineers normally are telling their drivers the strategy that they should employ to maximise their race result. Just like Lotus did to Kimi back in that race.

How curious that Ferrari didn't do so today for Kimi. Why? Because they wanted Vettel to win, obviously. It happened with Schumi/Barrichello, and it happened with Alonso/Massa.

Just admit it. But obviously you won't because you've got Vettel's cock firmly lodged in your mouth. And you can't stand the fact that he lost pole position fair and square to a superior driver on the day. Aw, diddums.

Not currently, Rosberg is the F1 brand ambassador as current WDC and Vettel is the face of F1 current racers as the leader of the WDC.

Vettel is much smarter than given credit. I believe he knew that it was time to close the gap in order to take advantage of an undercut or overcut. He is properly clever that one. If told to pit immediately following Kimi's stop I doubt he would have.

>If told to pit immediately following Kimi's stop I doubt he would have.
I think you're absolutely right. But the point is that the team didn't tell Kimi to push, when it is beyond doubt that they would have known that the overcut was the better strategy.

From reading Kimi's quotes, it seems like the team basically left him in the dark. They knew this was a possibility. They decided to tell him as little as possible because they wanted Vettel to win, of course.

>Raikkonen said: "I was called in, and that's about it."
>Asked whether he knew why Ferrari had called him in at that time, he said: "I have no idea. They have reasons for why they do what they do. It is not up to me."
>He said he would be asking the team to explain the decisions to him.
>"We are a team and if you don't believe what you have been told then it will get very complicated at some point," Raikkonen said.
>"We'll talk about it and I guess there are some reasons for everything that happened. As a driver I can do what I want but it is not how we work as a team."

Let's remember that Kimi was obviously capable of hammering out laps. He beat Vettel in qualifying.

If Ferrari had wanted to support Kimi in this race (like they supported Bottas in Bahrain and Russia, both times he had a better race position than Lewis), then they would have given him the better strategy. But they didn't. Because they didn't want him to win.

You mean when Bottas no longer had any conceivable chance to win the race because he was losing time? And this is after Mercedes had supported Bottas for the entire race up until that point? They had done a pit strategy which meant that Bottas had retained the race lead. They gave up the chance to win the race. Unfortunately Vettel overtook him and was widening the gap every single lap.

If you're unable to understand this difference then you must be mentally deficient.

You know this already, of course.

>>76191539
You are talking about Bahrain, when Vettel had already taken the lead from Bottas (Mercedes had been supporting Bottas the entire race - unlike Ferrari and Kimi today).

Bottas was losing time every lap, Vettel was getting away. The only chance to try and reel in Vettel was to try and let Lewis do it. Merc even gave Bottas quite a chance to try it himself. But he couldn't make it work, for whatever reason.

So the situations are entirely different - you know that, we all know that.

>Sebastian Vettel's win all but confirmed his number one status at the Scuderia. Kimi Raikkonen, who claimed a stunning first pole position in nine years on Saturday, led in the early stages and had been doing a solid job out front, at times lapping 0.5s faster than his teammate.

>Raikkonen pitted earlier and was dropped into traffic by his Ferrari team, while Vettel stayed out and made the most of clean air to set some blistering lap times and pull out a sufficient gap to his teammate. This proved crucial when he eventually pitted, as the German returned to the track ahead of Raikkonen.

>While Ferrari can argue it was covering off the threat of the early-stopping Verstappen and Bottas, Raikkonen ultimately lost out on what would have been a deserved first victory since 2013. The decision to overcut Vettel further cements his number one status in the team and is the latest indicator that Ferrari is keen to back its leading driver all the way to the 2017 title.

He isn't listening so he doesn't have a fucking clue to what he has been told.

This is why I'm saying Kimi's word isn't exactly solid on what he has or has not been told. He doesn't listen to a word his team says when focused.

No mate. The point is that the team should have given him the best strategy that would have won him the race. They didn't.

Think back to Bahrain, Bottas was fully supported, they didn't give Lewis the undercut to try and beat Bottas did they? They double stacked the Mercs that day, pitting Bottas first (since he was ahead of Hamilton).

They supported Bottas in that race for the race win, right up until it was clear that he couldn't win the race anymore. Not so with Ferrari and Kimi today.

And I'm the Pope. Pretty fucking obvious that pitting Kimi was going to put him back into traffic, while giving Seb five laps to build up a lead - and why didn't they call Seb in immediately? Do you think that they did, but we didn't hear that message?
Pit instructions for the top drivers is normally the sort of thing they play us on the TV isn't it?

I think it's unlikely he would swap Monaco for Indy again - he's only done it because he's in a shit F1 car. And he's made it clear that he wants to be in a competitive car next year, and if he isn't then I guess he could leave F1.

If he gets that competitive car then he will definitely be doing Monaco, because he'll be able to win. And of course it would hurt his championship chances to skip an entire race.

So if he did Indy again it would probably be as part of a full season, I expect, which he would probably do once he's finished with F1. That would be my guess.

Alonso would never, ever, ever do the full series (why would he? He gets paid more in Yurp than the entire prize purse for the whole IndyCar series) but he definitely has the appreciation for all motorsport to keep coming back for the 500 Mile Race. I hope he does.

And he might not have any good choices next year. It's kind of similar to what drove Mansell to CART. Ferrari won't have him, Mercedes won't, just about the only team other than McLel is Renault and they're not likely to be competitive, not enough for him to risk squandering another year in a mediocre car. He's never going to equal the greats of F1 in terms of WDC's so he might as well try to prove his talent by tackling all kinds of things.
>>
>>76193221
No they definitely do not play all pit instructions, they don't even play all the pit instructions for the top 3 drivers. Have you ever looked at the communication transcript post race? There is tons of messages they don't play.
It wouldn't be the first time a team or even Ferrari has done it wrong by mistake. It wouldn't be the first time a team or even Ferrari has pit cars 4+ laps apart.

Not every pit strategy involves both cars pitting close to each other.

Once Kimi pitted Sebastian was 2s faster. Serious question and feel free to ignore the rest of my post, would you call him in to pit when his speed increased so much once he was free of Kimi? Would you have pitted him next lap with this new information you didn't have a lap ago? Would your simulations tell you to pit him with this new information?

If you say yes you just lost the race for your driver, you need to remember even though they are the same team the 2 pit walls are still competitive between each other.

>Alonso would never, ever, ever do the full series (why would he? He gets paid more in Yurp than the entire prize purse for the whole IndyCar series)
He wants to win races. If he does stay in F1 next year (and he's suggested that he only really wants to be in F1 if he gets a much more competitive car than he currently has), then he will focus on that, and he will do all the races.

But if he can't get a competitive F1 car then he will probably consider another series. In which case he would look at an IndyCar full season.

He's not going to skip Monaco for Indy again. I'm pretty sure of that.

>>76193326
Exactly. Either he will, somehow, get a competitive car in F1 (you never know, maybe something will happen), or he will probably say "fuck this, I'm not going to run around in a shit F1 car again, I'll go and do IndyCar instead".

They knew that they were releasing Kimi back into traffic. No other team would do this to a driver that is leading the race. How convenient that it gave Seb clean air. How convenient that they didn't pit him straight after Kimi. How utterly, utterly convenient.

Stop looking at it after the fact with hindsight. Look at it from how each situation came during the race, try put yourself in their position making calls on your feet.

It's not as simple of clear cut as your hindsight makes it look.

Buttflustered tifosi trying to explain their delusions

>Raikkonen robbed of victory
>There was virtually no chance of Sebastian Vettel making it safely past Kimi Raikkonen on the track while the Ferrari pair were racing at the front of the Monaco Grand Prix, so the only way that the championship leader was going to win the race was if the team interfered.
>Hey presto, Ferrari lived up to their reputation of being race spoilers. Like Rubens Barichello and Felipe Massa before him, Raikkonen joined the Ferrari second drivers club as he saw his own hopes of victory sacrificed in order to push the world championship efforts of the No 1.

This.

That's pretty fucked up, too, considering Vettel and the negro both have 2 victories, and this would have put Kimi on par with Bottox.

If this had been Lewis/Nico, then such a thing would never have happened. If it had, then whichever driver lost out would have been absolutely furious.

Kimi clearly was angry. Very angry. But he didn't become too vocal, and he spoke about "roles" within the team. Because he knows that Ferrari don't want him to win. He knows there's no point kicking up a fuss.

But dishonest tifosi like you can't even admit your own tactics, how pathetic.

>There is little doubt that Ferrari’s strategy, which so clearly favoured Vettel by giving him five laps of clean air to over-cut his rival after the first round of pit stops, cost Raikkonen dearly here. All weekend this inscrutable cult figure, whose wife Minttu has recently given birth to the couple’s second child, seemed to have a fresh burst of energy, showing dazzling pace to achieve pole position and keep his team-mate at bay off the start line. But from there Ferrari reverted to extreme pragmatism, bringing Raikkonen into the pits first and giving Vettel all the space and time he needed to vault into the lead and sustain his quest for a fifth world title.

Oh UK,

no, that is not the case, everyone knows that Ferrari has a #1 and that #1 is Vettel, people have been trying to point out that in this case it is not clear if it was team orders or not. You can quote all the UK articles you like, but it is obvious to the rest of us that they are simply a Hamilton circle jerk.
