The first veering from spectacular to bathetic,and with a race win total (and general set of statistics) wholly in disproportion to his championship tally and the second just working the points table like a pro, never turning in bad races, and thus doing enough to stay out of reach of a company of very talented pursuers for year on year. In the evolving narrative between Vettel and Hamilton, will one come to be the definition of a guy who doesn't throw titles away and the other the definition of one who does?

Well, the 2008 car is of course very different from the current cars, because the cars changed so drastically in 2009.

McLaren currently use the 2015 car, painted in the 2017 livery, as a show car (picture related, on the left). Which again is quite different, obviously, because of the big changes to the 2017 cars. But I guess they thought it was close enough (even though, really, it isn't).

At the very least one can say that, granting that premise, one side of the garage this year has managed to be less impacted by this lack of knowledge. In the team quotes after practices, etc. the language with which Lewis frames his responses makes one think that he's more or less leaving the engineering side of things to his guys and hoping for the best. It's all like 'Today was tough, but my guys will be thinking long and hard overnight and I'm confident they'll get to the root of our issues and resolve them for qualifying...' or something of that nature. If they succeed he succeeds; if not, not. I don't think someone like Alonso takes such a passive attitude to his 'set-up destiny', to call it that. Isn't it a bit wearisome for a ten-year veteran of the sport to take such little responsibility for the state in which his car ends up prior to crunch time?

2000 was a GOAT fight between Schumi and Mika before Mika had a DNF in the US GP with two more races to go. Schumacher won in Indy, so Mika had to win in Suzuka at all cost and he finished second.
