I think weight cutting in MMA needs to be regulated and phased out in the long run. It's unhealthy for the fighters, and adds an unnecessary uncertainty into the mix. MMA athletes already pull out of fights at an alarming rate unseen in sports like boxing, which has a lot more weight classes.

One way to do this over time is for every commission to adapt the new California rules on weight cutting, which recommends hydration tests 30 and 10 days out from the fight, as well as advises fighters against cutting 10% more of their body weight through multiple weigh ins.

One FC has a more radical system where fighters are forced to keep track of their fight weight as well as their daily training weight through an online database, and during fight week they check their fighters daily to make sure they're on weight.

Nobody wants to see more cases like Khabib or Dos Anjos, where they had to be hospitalized for their insane weight cutting. It's best if it's phased out.
