The Contenders: who goes in the breakaway? We could look at who went in the move yesterday and rule them out thinking they’ll be rinsed from their efforts but in the third week everyone is tired and often those able to jump in the moves on one day can repeat the next.

Giovanni Visconti could get the day off and he’s good for stages like this. Over at UAE Emirates Rui Costa has had several goes already. He’s a diesel of a rider which suits this hard course but if he comes in for a sprint from a small group he’s not an obvious pick. Team mate Valerio Conti is another one to watch.

Luis-Leon Sanchez has had several goes but his speciality is the downhill arrival into the finish line and this stage doesn’t offer that. Astana team mate Dario Cataldo could have a go too.

There are many more names but in case the peloton or a reduced form composed of the GC contenders is left then Quick Step have two choices in Bob Jungels and possibly Fernando Gaviria.

Similar thing happened to me when I was 8 and got a racing bike for my first communion. It had the shifter on the frame, and while trying to adjust them, hile going around our block, I accidentally rode headfirst into car and broke my wrist. The car also was damaged. The owner of the car came outside and was in blind rage, but then shortly after his gf came out as well and she was all "Oh my god, you poor thing, are you okay?" If you find some roads that are less riddden, and on a day with good wind it can be doable. For example I live right near the coast, all the roads along the shore are where the bunch rides go so they're impossible, but there are some segments on more inland residential roads that are relatively easy picking.

I sooner see Nibali launch an assault early on in the stage than Quintana, but Nibali's team isn't great and I wonder if he himself even has the explosiveness to drop Tom on a climb to reach teammates positioned up front

Don't know about you guys but this Giro feels pretty difficult to predict for me, could go any way between Tom, Quintana and Nibbles to me. Tom seemed absolutely dominant up till now and despite the long stage, altitude and unfortunate shitting yesterday he still put in an incredibly good ride on the last climb and descent. Quintana on the other hand looked pretty mediocre yesterday and might be suffering from his crash a few days ago. Nibbles always manages to resurface in week 3 in one way or another, but he's getting older and doesn't seem that strong either
