Arsenal can't complain about finances though, every season we hear that Wenger has a "war chest" of around £200 million to spend, you could easily build a title winning squad with that. Wenger is being very cowardly by not spending the money as he knows his job security is determined purely by profit margins, but ultimately it comes down to the man that offers him another contract, Kroenke.

Arsenal haven't gone backwards, 75 points is usually enough to finish in the top 3 and they finished 2nd with 71 points the season before. It's not really a valid excuse to say that 75 points would get you into the top 4 in another season, this season had some of the absolute worst teams I've seen in a while. Hull, Boro and Sunderland were a free 18 points to any half decent team.

The club hasn't reached its potential in a fucking decade, has won a few trash trophies but that's it. 75 points is the second highest points total Arsenal have had in the last 7 or 8 seasons. Wenger has been incredibly consistent for Arsenal always delivering 70 to 75 points a season post Highbury. If you took the players Man Utd signed last summer and put them in the Arsenal squad he would of won the league. Arsenal are also not capable of attracting a better manager than Wenger, they might have a mini collapse like when George Graham left or when Ferguson left Man Utd.

Revenue doesn't mean anything if it's not spent on the squad. Arsenal have less pull for players than Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea and in a few years Tottenham. No English clubs have more pull than Real, Barca, Bayern so Arsenal are stuck down the pecking order if they won't spend. The best Arsenal can do is persuade Real to sell them James Rodriguez for 50 million but again it won't be enough to keep up with what the competition is doing.

A better way to measure it would be to count the points difference they were off from winning the league

They are clearly not improving, most of the time it's as a result of them completely bottling it against top 6 teams, especially away from home. This season they picked up only 1 point out of 15 when playing away against top 6 opposition, and that comes down to Wenger not being in the same calibre as the other managers.
