It all depends on the balance. Our coach always said with a back row that you need one workhorse to do the tackling (usually at 6), one poacher to be first to the breakdown (usually at 7) and one carrier (usually at 8). Obviously at pro level it isn't this simple (unless you're Gatland), but it's still a decent rule of thumb to see if your bases are covered.

Ireland have to choose three of these five. Schmidt used to play O'Mahony-O'Brien-Heaslip which was surprisingly balanced. In the win over NZ, Stander-vdF-Heaslip played most of the game and worked really well together, but he went with Stander-O'Brien-Heaslip for most of the Six Nations, which meant Stander and O'Brien were doing nothing but meme carries and an aging Heaslip was trying to do everything else.

The feeling now seems to be that O'Mahony-O'Brien-Stander should start after the game against England and given they're all Lions. I don't think there's enough legs in that back row though and I'd like to see van der Flier. I think O'Mahony is undroppable now, but Stander and O'Brien are quite similar. I think O'Brien should be looked at as an 8. He used to play there at the start of his career and he'd be more natural there than at 7. It could help stop him breaking down so much if he doesn't have to play the most physically demanding role on the pitch.

Saders would thrash Sarries and it's not even close. Fully fit, 7/8 in the pack are All Blacks, the non all black forwards are immense (taufua, funell etc).
