The NFL is mostly watched by pro American patriots. Ppl get mad when you don't stand for the national anthem unless your a paraplegic. And he also went a laughable 1-10 in 2016.
His utter failure last year is more indicative of his current ability than what he almost did 5 years ago. In fact, he actually hasn't actually had a winning record since 2012.

The problem is not just his distracting off-field gimmicks. It's that he's simply, objectively, just a bad QB.
He's already been given a chance. In fact, he's been given chance after chance after chance since 2012 to show that he deserves to play, and every time he's actually gotten worse.

Yes, he had shit players around him, but so did Fitzpatrick... They're fairly equally shit QBs, but Fitzpatrick is much more like Winston (so easier to just drop into the offence rather than adapting the playbook for him) than Kaepernick.

It's not just about the off-field drama. Fitzpatrick is just objectively a better fit.

kaep probably thinks he's still a starting QB, which means he's asking for a lot more money than fitzpatricks one year / $3mil deal
