Im more suprirsef by the fact that France is one of the 5 big Euro football nations, they've always had historically strong national teams and yet they club teams always underperform agaisnt foreign clubs and the quality in the league is in general way worse compared to spain/italy/germany/eplel

Not just our elite, a big part of the french people doesn't really care about football. Most of our stadium are empty while 2nd and 3rd English division are full, people just come to see when their teams is winning, just compare 2009 Bordeaux attendance with today one.
Also our League just want to make money and doesn't care about developing football unlike the German and the Spanish, just read their new program, they're just talking "business model" "product" "customer". It's fucking disgusting.

You're also right about the passion. While our neighbors all have passion for football, we lack most of it. Our capital has only 1 top club while London has 5.
I don't know why we lack passion. L'Équipe 21 is mostly football, CNews have a prime time football program. We love our teams when they win but show little everyday support.
You could say other sports have support but it's mostly wrong, they get little public budget (that's why a football license is 70€ while a judo one is 200€).

This has to be the worst moment to say this. Ligue 1 this year has been quite entertaining, the 3 top teams played some nice football. There have also been 2 teams in european cups semi-finals
