How will Nando recover from this? I ask this question only for the Australian posters in the thread. Others may add their own interpretation but may be ignored. Sorry in advance folks
ALO is doing good so far
>>75934844
I don't think we have enough activity for an Indy general in the middle of the week. Post moar in the motorsports general.
so is this the wait for ALO to hit the wall thread?
>>75935041

better than grand pricks I suppose
I was wondering if speedway racing is more demanding on the body than tracks ?
>>75935123
that game is a drug
so far Alonso is the fastest but he can't keep up the pace
>>75935156
Indianapolis is not super demanding on the body.
A short track like pheonix or Iowa where the drivers are experiencing 5.5G's sustained through a corner are much more physical. Bearing in mind that the cars have no power steering, that G-loading is felt heavily.
I believe drivers experience 3.5G's at most at Indy and they have long straightaways to breath.
>>75935156
Yes and no.
On one hand you're sustained to the high G forces for longer, but the peak G force at high speed F1 tracks can exceed the peak G force at the lower speed ovals.
On the other hand, on ovals, your neck is only experiencing lateral forces to the right, whereas on a road course you're not only experiencing it in both directions, causing more strain in that regard than an oval, but the left and right-handed corners alternate often enough for any weak-necked drivers to be having real problems.
>>75935123
4cham doesnt need that big of a window, dawg

>>75935465
>suddenly
kys
what is the best lap in Indy? I mean timewise
>>75935476
one qualifying pace they will be 100% throttle
for ROP they have points on the track they must lift and it changes on each stage before they can go all out. in the race they'll be mostly full throttle but will be lifting early with full fuel and to avoid running into the back of cars
>>75935498

damn jack harvey looks like he could play for arsenal
>>75935443
Does it have to be hentai?
>>75935519
I see, so right now I suppose they are running with more fuel than needed
>>75935542
3d hentai is ok too
>>75935544
probably, also more downforce that needed too. I assume right now they are just finding suspension balance before going into negative wing angles

Indy's about equal for Chevrolet & Honda. Honda's got the horsepower and good speed on Super-speedways and on Street Courses, but Chevrolet have a more efficient Aero package that makes Short Ovals and fast Road Courses like Barber & Road America a cakewalk.

Should be an Alonso general seeing as he is the most interesting aspect of F1 and Indy.
hey OP, I just want to say thank you very much for making this thread. IndyCar best racing series.
fuck /turnleft/ and /f1/
motor/sp/ort general is basically /turnleft/ and /f1/ combined with sports car racing
IndyCar never gets a fair chance
>>75939179
Marco already had his year and HE FAILED.
he was so close to winning Indy in his rookie year and he blew it. now he's 2 wins in IndyCar in 10 years. the only reason he has a ride is his last name is Andretti.
Anyone watches IndyLights? I know nothing of racing. Can he reach IndyCar?
>>75934858
fuck you motor/sp/ort is /f1/ and /turnleft/ lite combined with sports car racing
nobody cares about IndyCar so we are gonna MAKE THEM CARE
>>75944566
pretty good Indy Lights race at the Indy GP last weekend.
>>75938092
>>75936617
>>75944566
but to answer your question, yes he can, if he's got the skill.
>JPM doesn't paint his helmet to "save weight"
has he taken a look at himself in the mirror lately?
>>75944586
>>75944608
Anyone can if they have skill.
I heard he had a bad start this year because they crashed into him like 3 times at the start of the races
>>75944636
its a lot easier to get a ride in IndyCar than F1
the series is about skill and not the best car
>>75944658
Hope he can reach it then, racing is kind of a completely non-thing here. Too expensive I guess
>>75944658
>its a lot easier to get a ride in IndyCar than F1
But it still has similar problems for new drivers. Not many seats open up every year and it is still largely about if you can bring your own sponsors.
Take Gabby Chaves for example. Showed that he has all the necessary talent in his rookie year, then got shoved out of the series because someone else came in with more money in their wallet and he hasn't been able to find a full time job since.
reminder that Hinch got buttfrustrated at the Indy GP
it was a fair pass, he just mad he got shown up by Spencer Pigot, a rookie
>>75944710
it's expensive here too, Urubro.
>tfw you will never be a race driver because you parents didn't want to pay for karting
-_-
>>75944722
true, but to a much lesser extent than F1.
also the cars are damn near equal. it's more about the driver's skill.
>>75944761
Yeah but in Uruguay it's like triple because we don't have industry, in the US you can buy stuff that you guys build in here everything's imported. Not to mention you already have the infrastructure for it
Top that with the fact that there's no racing culture here and it just becomes pretty irrelevant
thank you OP
I'm gonna do my best to keep /indy/ up at least for the month of may!
I've made the race thread for every IndyCar race so far this year and I was starting to think I was alone, thank you
>>75944848
true but, it's still really hard here too bro.
any motorsport category, you either start racing once you're barely able to walk, or, you won't become a race driver.
plus most normies here only care about NASCAR.
that's why IndyCar fans embrace foreign drivers like Helio Castroneves, Simon Pagenaud, Will Power, etc. we are just happy to have good drivers in our series.
whereas the NASCAR fuckheads hate foreigners, hate women (Danica), and hate Toyota. and hate any course that is not turnleft.
at the same time, the F1 snobs look down on us too.
it's hard being an IndyCar fan.
I hope the mods at least make the Indy 500 thread a sticky. with all the F1boos tuning in for Alonso, and the casuals, it's gonna be ridiculous amounts of (shit)posting
>>75944724
Pretty sure he flipped off Max Chilton actually.
The only observations I would encourage people to make during this week of practice is how well drivers/cars run in traffic.
If they can pass and stay ahead or if they're immediately overtaken.
Also watch how close your favorite driver gets to the wall when exiting turns 2 and 4, tells you how confident they are in the setup.
Fastest speeds you'll see outside of Fast Friday when boost is turned up will be in the 227-228mph range weather permitting. These speeds are achieved by following another car which eliminates quite a lot of drag since the leading car punches a large hole in the air.
>>75944724
>A FUCKING LEAF
APOLOGIZE, JUSTIN TRUDEAU.
he's pointing at (you)
>>75945062
>hate any course that is not turnleft.
Seems to me like everyone on the fucking planet wants NASCAR to run more road courses, or at the very least put one in the Chase or whatever the fuck they call it now.
will Nando commit seppuku during the race to immortalise his legacy like Senna did?
>>75946733

>We had some issues with the rear suspension and we could not complete the program that was planned

In russia, life is danger
>>75956004
I think the reason Rossi's win seemed to come out of nowhere is that ABC are fucking retards and have no idea how to cover a race. if they were competent they would have followed him during the race and it wouldn't have been as much of a surprise at the end

I was at the race and it was still pretty surprising, everyone was waiting for him to pit and looking at Munoz who would take over the lead

The best drivers in the world end up in F1, the best drivers in the US end up in IndyCar (or Nascar). The world is bigger than the US.
>>75970968
It depends on what kind of racing discipline he's talking about.
Alonso is certainly the best road circuit racer in the paddock right now, he devoted his entire life to it, beyond that it's not accurate to say he's the "best driver" there.
>>75971019
>The best drivers in the world end up in F1
and then end up as backmarkers because they don't get a seat at Mercedes or Ferrari

>>75971078

>>75971068
The best drivers in F1 don't necessarily end up winning but the best drivers are F1. This is the natural result of most drivers in the world wanting to be in F1 and F1 drivers having the highest salaries. The 20 F1 drivers aren't the best 20 drivers in the world but the top F1 are the best drivers in the world.
>>75971104
Please turn down the autism jets
>>75971081
great racing and genuine entertainment =/= best drivers
I'm sure there's GP3 races were you can have the time of your life, doesn't mean that those drivers are any good
>>75971068
F1 has the best road course drivers in the world, that's reality.
The reason F1 teams want the best driver is because they built the best possible car they could according to the regulations and now want the best possible driver to squeeze the most performance out of it.
>>75971109
>the top F1 are the best drivers in the world

By pure talent, instincts, car control and reaction timing WRC drivers are better than F1. No one cares about WRC though
SUDDENLY DICKSON
>>75971145
>he says this during a season with some of the most appalling F1 pay drivers (Stroll, Palmer, , Ericson) in recent history
>>75971184
WRC is a different story, as are two wheelers
as far as four wheelers on asphalt goes top F1 drivers are the best drivers in the world
although I would say that since most racing kids want to go to F1 over MotoGP and WRC F1 also has a bigger talent pool to choose from and therefore also a higher chance of the best drivers so most likely also better drivers than the two other sports
>>75971244
As I said before, the 20 F1 drivers aren't the best 20 drivers in the world, but the top F1 are the best drivers in the world.

The best F1 drivers today went through the ranks in junior competitions by beating future touring, endurance and in many cases also Indycar drivers.
Here is the 2000 International F3000 season: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2000_International_Formula_3000_Championship
A 18 year old Fernando Alonso in his first year beat a 21 year old Sébastien Bourdais.
>>75971373

And they all lost to an eventual IndyCar driver, nice
>>75971394
Bourdais was in his first year as well, forgot to removed it on Alonso before posting. Alonso had a lot less racing experience in total though.
>>75971452

I don't know why you're so eager to espouse Bernie Ecclestone's lifetime of propoganda and branding. Most people would agree that Scott Dixon in a Mercedes would be fighting for the championship right now. They're all fantastic drivers but it's pointless and childish to defend such absolutist statements.
>>75971510
I didn't admit it, because it's not necessarily true, I just said it's not about WRC vs F1.

>>75971762
again, as I stated with the Junqueira case, age and experience matters
when Maldonado won it he was one of the oldest and most experienced drivers in the series, he did shit before that

>>75971763
You completely fail to understand how arbitrary it is most of the time what series good drivers are racing in. Will Power, Scott Dixon, whoever is at the top of other series aren't going to give away the security they have to sell their sould and have a 20% chance of being a backmarker for some shitty team. The "farm systems" are set up so there's a specific small window to get the opportunity to race in F1 just because they don't want drivers to be able to do other things.
why is there always an autism storm
>>75971068
>and then end up as backmarkers because they don't get a seat at Mercedes or Ferrari
That is the traditional way to get into F1, drive backmarker car to place it doesn't belong few times, one or two seasons later that driver is driving something far more competitive. It is extremely rare that drivers start their F1-careers in top level teams, Lewis Hamilton is pretty unique case as he was supported by McLaren from carting up.

k, thx
Fun fact:
Alonso has done 2331 km in F1's 5 races and winter testing in 2017
Right this very seconds he has done 1251 km of Indy car driving for the Indy 500 including the rookie test day.
200 laps for the Indy 500 is 805 km. So he might actually cover more miles in a single Indy car event than all of this years F1 races and testing.
