Compare this to how he looked against Quigg, got hurt very quickly there. Warrington just can't win against good guys with his lack of power.

Is Warrington completely featherfisted, Martinez a tank or a bit of both?

Just found out I live literally 2 mins away from one of the best amateur boxing clubs in the country, and they do cheap drop-in sessions. Are boxing clubs usually friendly for novices?

I've got a year of uni boxing experience, but these were informal sessions that I went to maybe only 20 times over the year, so for all intents and purposes I'm still complete shite. Only looking to do it as a keep-fit thing really, I'd just like to train with a heavy bag once or twice per week, I don't even want to spar or anything like that.
>>
>>75904948
I'm seriously scared Canelo is going to get BTFO. He's fought smaller opponents and the only bigger opponent was a drained opponent who never threw punches. He's not gonna know what to do when he feels GGG's power.
>>
>>75905188
Perhaps.

But Golovkin has never fought anyone nearly as good as Canelo

>>
>>75905194

>>
No sympathy for Saunders to be honest. He could fight Jacobs if he wanted but he's taking on this dross instead to wait for GGG vs Canelo to be over so he can fight the winner. Protecting his belt before he cashes out.
>>

Dunno, doubt it if Saunders is at his best, will just jab his head off all night. >>
question to that one faggot who actually box

how do you usually throw left hook to the body? do you prefer to aim for belly button or behind elbows?
>>
>>75910498
Basically everywhere is good.
Aiming for the belly slows you down, but the real damage is more for accunulation. In amateur bouts, being 3 round, the effect is not that devastating. behind the elbows is where the liver is and that is a potentially one punch ko although very difficult to reach, you might also hurt your thumb really bad.
>>
>>75905187
Meh, if you show them #hardworkdedication they'll respect you. Hopefully your goals would change and you'd want to train all off the time and compete. If they need money they'd be happy to have you regardless though, most gyms don't profit from their fighters
>>
>>75905187
By all means, go scope it out and see if they'll take you on. Very convenient since it's that close by.

On the other hand, if it really is one of the best amateur boxing clubs in the country they may only want serious folk who train there to have them compete.

Only has like 3 showings a day in London lad, doesn't even have any in Bristol and we have quite a big hipster movie scene here, maybe it'll get a wider release over the next couple of weeks I dunno. Doubt it'll be shown in America though.
>>
>>75915735
Nice. Why is boxing so popular in the UK and other countries but in the USA it's not?
>>
>>75915811

>>75915811
money gets pumped into the sport by our government who support boxing clubs and amateur boxing through olympic initiatives
>>
Golovkin vs Canelo
Rungvisai vs Chocolatito II
Lemiuex vs Jacobs

Please make this happen on Sept.16
>>
>>75912507

I don't even have Pacquiao in my top ten anymore. Completely outclassed by Mayweather and nothing but garbage fights since.
>>
>>75915811

Also the promotional system in america is weird.

Like no fighters build fan bases in there hometown anymore. Now anytime a fighter gets big he just goes to Vegas and doesn't really build any fanbase.

Unlike in Britain where a Liverpool fighter will fight in Liverpool and a Manchester fighter will fight in Manchester and thus bring an actual atmosphere to the venue.
>>
>>75915972
Could you also say the 2012 Olympics being in London and and Joshua winning boosted it?
>>
>>75916146
yes and Audley Harrison winning gold in 2000 and Amir Khan four years later helped.
>>
>>75916134
You can see Crawford has done a great job of building a fanbase in Omaha. Always sells when he's there and when he fought Postal in Vegas, Omaha showed up. Broner has done a good job too, he always fights in Ohio and does good numbers.

Mexican fighters always fight in Vegas, California or Texas because that's where the majority of Mexican fans live
>>
>>75916134
>Like no fighters build fan bases in there hometown anymore
wut? Crawford is popular in Omaha, Wilder is popular in Alabama, Broner is popular in Cincinnati. Then you have Mexican-Americans who draw well in their hometowns like Mikey Garcia and Abner Mares,
>>
>>75916276

Meh, Broner vs Porter was two Ohio guys and they had the fight in vegas. Thats dumb as hell.

Another guy who is doing it right, is Robert Easter.
He always sells lots of tickets in Toledo.

I think promoters are going back to this model, because 5 years ago they probably would have just started having Easter box in vegas as soon as he got his title and the arena would be empty.
>>
I know Walsh he's a local lad, good lad and seeing a girl from one of my old classes, but he's going to absolutely BTFO
>>
>>75915811
Americans tend to be pussyfied.
>>
>>75916129
Rungvisai and Chocolate Tito have to be paid only 2 mil. put together max, Lemieux and Jacobs would probably require at least that much each, this is not happening.

Based NIESH and Chocolatito II is very probably, both it and Lemieux Jacobs not though.
>>
>>75916134
I think it has more to do with fighters being pushed on national/local media rather than building fanbase. afaik boxing is getting huge attention from tv and newpapers in uk, especially matchroom's fighters.
we just had a era where 2 fighters (floyd, pac) transcended the sport and had a worldwide recognition like few times in the hystory of the sport and among contemporaty athlets.
floyd knew how to market himself and both had their ring achievements to speak for themselves. and none of them kinda built a fanbase (except maybe floyd, but i wouldnt call vegas/nevada as fanbase), the word eventually spreads and they get coverage on tv, newspaper.
also this>>75916367
another example is arturo gatti, who built his fanbase in new jersey and was nowhere near a big star of manny or floyd are and aj is becoming.

>>
>>75919897
Only seen his fights on youtube so take that for what you will. He was technically limited but powerful as fuck and pretty much never in a bad fight, great guy too. Didn't really carry his power up to super middleweight though so struggled with Eubank up there.
>>
>>75919897

he went to the US and beat Dewitt and Barkley, which was a big deal in a time when Brit fighters were seen as bums in the States

the McClellan fight is one of the most intense you'll see, watch it in full if you haven't already
>>
>>75920665
Saw the Mcclellan fight, him coming back after being hit through the ropes is tough shit.

>>75920044
Think the first fight with Eubank was him getting gassed trying to get Chris down. Eubank had a better chin and Benn did fuck all defending during his bobbing movements.

Pathetic move and if he's turning down a 50/50 split for the WBC because it's in America and going after a 70/30 split for the IBF then it means DeGale vs Smith would be a PPV to make it worth enough when he hasn't actually done anything yet

Eddie is close to Kalle Sauerland, Groves will potentially fight DeGale in a unification who is back with Matchroom so there's a reason to promote it and it's a fight that makes most sense in England. >“It’s tough. It’s harder working a full day and going to the gym right afterwards, but that’s what I’m doing. In a couple of weeks, I’m probably going to take off work and just focus on training,” Smith, of Mastic Beach, Long Island, told BM.

>“[Life] has changed a lot. People are recognizing me everywhere. Everyone is really happy for me. They are watching the [Hopkins] fight over and over. I’m motivated to keep moving forward and, hopefully this year, I will become champion of the world. It feels nice to represent my town, but the main thing is to represent the working guy. It feels good. Each fight I have, I get closer and closer to bettering my life and my family’s life.”

>“[Construction] is a hard way of life and Joe gives these guys a little bit of hope. Somebody to root for,” Jerry Capobianco told BM on the same call. “They are a bunch of hardworking guys and they are all excited for him because Joe represents them. I go to work every day and see these guys and all they do is talk about Joe.”

>“Early on, it was very hard to have hope, making $6,000 a fight. It’s a tough sport, getting hit in the head and hardly making any money. That’s why Joe got the labourer’s job so he had something to fall back on. He broke his jaw bad. The odds of making it to this point right here were not good.”

>“Joe is a humble construction worker, who is getting up early in the morning and plying the jackhammer every day and digging ditches,” “He wants to keep grounded though, once we book the fights for him, he’s off the job and in training camp. This is a guy who came up the hard way, didn’t have backing by any networks or big money support. Joe did it with his own hands. He didn’t have to rely on judges. I think fans identify with that. You can’t chop up liver and tell them it’s a prime steak. When they look at Joe, they can tell this is someone who did not have things given to him. Someone who is real.”

Whats your training schedule like?

I took a few months off the gym, but I kept running and working out. First day back yesterday, I want to get my fitness as good as possible though.
>>
>>75949140
I run 2 or 3 miles at 5 am every morning

I get to the gym at 6 pm after work and I run another 2 miles or do 20 sprints and then jump rope, shadow box, and either hit mitts or bags and get 1000 reps of core workouts in before I finally do my calesthenics and head home, usually around 830-9.

>>
Anyone giving Walsh a remote chance of pulling off the upset?
>>
>>75953157
I mean I don't think he'll win but he's definitely in with a shot. Pedraza just kept coming forwards and played into his hands a bit, made him look very good but there's not a chance Walsh approaches this in the same way. Points win by using his good movement, superior reach and some dodgy judging is always possible.

Most likely scenario is that Walsh does start off well but gets broken down and KOed in the second half of the fight I think.

Luis Ortiz is as relevant to the world title scene as Lucas Browne, frozen out. He's now number 3 with WBC so won't get to Wilder soon and the WBA will probably tell him to fight Shannon Briggs if he beats Fres Oquendo. Eddie tried to make Luis Ortiz vs Jarrell Miller but ultimately parted ways because Ortiz doesn't want to take risks when he's close to mandatory. By the time he gets a big fight he will be too old and will get smashed.

Greetings from /heem/. I've recently been in an argument with a friend about McGregor's chances against Mayweather or any boxer for that matter. My friend insists that McGregor might have a shot against Mayweather, but could see him losing.

The point of contention is whether or not McGregor could defeat other highly accredited boxers, such as Amir Khan, Danny Garcia, Canelo, Shaun Porter, and Keith Thurman. He claims that all of these fighters are "just brawlers" and specifically referred to Canelo as being too slow and would give McGregor no trouble. I'm a grappler and I don't know shit about boxing. Does my friend have a point? I'm inclined to think it's complete bullshit
>>
>>75973143
It's obviously bullshit, these guys have spent practically every day of their lives perfecting boxing technique. Even MMA striking technique is completely different because you have to defend against grappling and the gloves are a lot thinner. It's luke saying any cricket player could play in the MLB because their job is to hit a ball with a bat. Also Khan is about as far from a brawler as you can get.
>>
>>75973143
An mma fighter has very little chance in boxing, just as a boxer has very little chance in the octagon. Different footwork, different defense, different gloves, different round lengths. I remember watching McGregor/Diaz 2 and Conor was gassing out completely in round three, 15 minutes in, imagine him in a 12 round, 36 minute fight where he has to move forward against a very fast Floyd Mayweather

The sports are just too different for it to be an interesting match up.

The boxer will win under boxing rules, and the MMA fighter will win under MMA rules.

If one of the fighters is complete garbage, then sure, they could lose under home rules, but otherwise, no, not really.

Ya I've been doing lots of miles lately too.

I think most people just assume its for cardio, but

In terms of working on your lungs and stuff, I think its beneficial, but sprints or exercises where you get really intense probably do more.
>>
>>75983687
Yeah it's just frustrating to watch, there seems to be no urgency from them to push for the big fights when he's clearly ready for them, and his attitude of hiding away really doesn't help. Particularly given how shocking the ticket sales have been for this you have to wonder what on earth all parties were thinking, why go to MSG at all when he was selling out Omaha? I do rate Diaz but he's just not on the same level, it's good vs elite.

Having said that Indongo for all the belts and then up to Welter to chase the big guys there will make me change my mind.

Maybe he's just staying low key after the bad press from that body shop incident

I gather he's not even sold out the lower bowl so it's not gone too well. But yeah there probably is an element of trying to present him as a big star, guess he has to build some more.

>maybe he's just staying low key after the bad press from that body shop incident

Definitely part of it, but you feel like if he just came out and talked about it people would get over it. It almost looks worse that he just refuses to acknowledge it happened and ignores the media. Very talented guy in any case, just a bit of a frustrating one so far.
