New thread reminder that Kugan is a little whiny bitch who doesn't understand why calling people a dwarf rather than just waiting for eddie to try and sort his problems might be a decent idea.

The Brummie Margarito is always good entertainment and I'm hoping Kal's opponent is a hidden gem considering that Japan has a pretty deep talent pool at 112 and 115. And Gamal's opponent is undefeated and has a couple of solid wins (though zero knockouts). Plus Josh Kelly is an exciting prospect

Dickens vs Ward is a guaranteed snoozefest and Nicola Adams is probably the key support again on BT. Plus Kiko is shot to bits
>>
>>75802297

>GGG is 35

Its unfair
>>
>>75802533
His last fight was a majority decision win over a guy who's 24-15, I think it's safe to say he isn't a hidden gem. Frankly both cards are shit but the Warrington one is marginally better, however shot Kiko is it'll at least have some interesting action and a decent atmosphere. As I said the Yafais are up there with Campbell and McDonnell as the most boring fighters with Matchroom, however talented Kal is.

At least we have the 20th and 21st to look forward to, absolutely stacked weekend.
>>
Did you know that there are more active Japanese boxers than British ones? (1,342 in Japan and 1,006 in the UK according to BoxRec)

I find that quite surprising. I should really watch more Japanese shows
>>
>>75802586
>I should really watch more Japanese shows

You're in luck considering there's one very good one, a good one and a decent one the weekend after next comprising most of the biggest names then. Good place to get you started.
>>
>>75802584
>As I said the Yafais are up there with Campbell and McDonnell as the most boring fighters with Matchroom, however talented Kal is.

Well I disagree with that. The McDonnells are boring because they are one-dimensional and have no flair, and are principally successful because of their size. The Yafais are genuinely slicc and have a nice, creative offensive arsenal

Apparently 6,000 tickets were sold for the Birmingham card so the atmosphere should be alright. Eggington's EBU bid is clearly the fight of the night to me
>>
>>75802586

1000 flyweights
>>
>>75802638
Kal is technically impressive but there's no spark to him at all, was listening to a show the other day where someone compared him to Danny Garcia which I think is a very good comparison. I can agree with you all day that what he does is impressive, but I don't ever want to watch it.
>>
>>75802586
Also, the UK's most stacked division is welterweight, with 137 active boxers, while Japan's is featherweight, with 171 active boxers
>>
>>75802191
Bonte is a conservative who doesn't like the ad-hoc nature of new media. He is critical of how the cult of the amateur has come to dominate western culture.
>>
Is Bellew still yapping on about how he's the ultimate draw in the heavyweight division
>>
>>75802586
>I find that quite surprising

Boxing never left the public consciousness in Japan in the same way as it did in the rest of the world. Their biggest fighters are pretty much always on free to air TV still and because the biggest cards are generally on public holidays they tend to draw huge numbers. Watching them has become part of the holiday ritual. Yamanaka's last fight (the biggest draw admittedly) drew only slightly lower numbers than Garcia vs Thurman for example, which was seen as a huge success for Haymon.

I think he might. Groves was already mentally shaky from the Froch KO, and now he's come out and said that he's struggling to come to terms with the Gutknecht accident. Chudinov is a fighter who's going to keep coming forward all night, so I really think it's a possibility that Groves unravels in the latter rounds

Spence is the most overhyped boxer in years, who the fuck has he beat?

Really hope Brook Calzaghes him
>>
>>75808074

If past records were everything then Klitschko would of beat Joshua. Spence has power and looked solid in his recent fights. I hope Kell does it because I would fancy him more against Thurman.
>>
>>75808043
I was just fucking around, I just want it to be a good fight.
>>
>>75808203
It will be desu, they're both damn good boxers.
Should have happened years ago really
>>
>>75808120
Spence looks like an offensive beast but I could see him being walked onto counters

I just hope Brook doesn't get flashbacks to GGG with a big marauding pressure fighter in front of him. I feel like he basically quit in that fight even though it wasn't him who stopped it, and if a fighter quits once they are prone to do it again
>>
>>75808433

If Brook's eye holds up, I think he will win. Thats the only question mark for me.

That being said, I thought Chavez Jr was going to give Canelo a tough night lol.
>>
>>75808433
Nah brooks chin and mental game is solid, he also has good power at 147 so I can't imagine brook will want to be toe to toe with him the whole fight

Just read about it. Very bizzare story. Seems like there's something Brook wasn't telling the press about the incident. He went to a stranger's flat on Tenerife in the middle of a night, did couple drinks and supposedly got stabbed in the leg with a machette. But after it all happened local police just told him he has a right to sue the man (that's a first odd thing that they didn't even prosecute him themselves)... and he didn't do it.

That's what I'm saying you mong, there are other factors to consider other than record, who you beat before isn't everything. You have to be able to interpret a boxers ability if they're young going into their first big fight and it's widely viewed as a 50/50 fight (with the betting market now making Spence the favourite)
>>
>>75817029
Point is you can easily say a fighter has a good chance even with worse resume, that should be obvious. Inoue vs any of the super flyweights would be a decent example, I think everyone would give him a decent shot of winning against Cuadras, Gonzalez and Estrada despite him having beaten nobody of that level because of the manner of his victories against the worse guys and the stories from those who've trained with him.

Spence is very similar.

Yeah but with the flag it could very well be a honest post.

Considering how little effect Canelo's punches had on a emaciated Chavez Jr I don't see Golovkin in big danger, though the corners told him not to go for a ko. But when Jr landed some he retaliated with some hard looping hands.

Kostya Tszyu is the name you'll hear much much more than Golovkin outside of Kazakhstan.

>>75821973
and in fact his sons are both pursuing or started pursuing a boxing career. Apparently the younger one is more talented.

Here is the profile of the oldest son:
http://boxrec.com/boxer/783149

His last fight:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14iObY2p7uY

Seems a little bit stiff, robotic and moves around very little, unlike his father. That right is textbook Kostya Tszyu however, and the pressure style is definitely his father's or similar to Golovkin. Has a lot of time to learn, he's only 22.

But judge for yourself. Commentator says Kostya was strongly against his son boxing, but in the end he convinced him to let him box and the agreement was in the amateurs Tim was to box 10 fights, if he won all 10 (which he did) he may continue, if he lost even 1 he would have been out of boxing. He ended up 33-1 in amateurs.
>>
>>75819802

Definately Klitschko's are first and second (with Vitali being actually reasonably better than Wlad). Laszlo Papp if you include amateurs/olympic boxers. After it's all said and done I'm sure Lomachenko will be ahead of Golovkin in terms of boxers of Slavic descent. It's more fitting term as Golovkin's from just outside of Eastern Europe technically

Depends. If GGG wins then who knows, it'll take a while for boxing to for the void to be filled since Canelo will be seen as a B player at best. If Canelo wins on the other hand, fights with Jermall Charlo in a year or 2 or Ramirez at a catchweight would be monumental too.

>>
>>75824812
I know how this sounds but boxing badly needs America to re-enter a golden age. Shame because the sport is at or near its height in Britain, Mexico, and Japan, and all the old communist countries and rules forbidding them are gone too. The whole world is waiting for some kind of boxing renaissance in the USA
>>
>>75824812
>America isn't everything anymore.

True but if the mainstream American sports media don't even mention it, as was the case for the Klitschko fight. I don't think you can realistically call it globally relevant on the same scale. You can bet your bottom dollar the British media will be mentioning Golovkin vs GGG despite it not being here, they already have.

what's with this retarded trend on /box/ trying to kiss Andre's ass and pass Kovalev as "casual". Kovalev outboxed Ward for half of the fight AND he has knockout power. I know in whose camp I am. The guy who is a hero to boxing as a whole, not the cunt who makes people walk away from their screen or switch the channel.
>>
>>75824482
Maybe if Golovkin and Ward win their respective fights, that fight will be back on the agenda at 168?

In general though I think the focus will be on getting heavyweight and welterweight unified. At 147 maybe Brook/Spence and Thurman will unify while Crawford takes out Pacquiao, and then we'll have the winners fight for undisputed status in 2019 or so
>>
>>75824812

Alright you cunt I'll take your bait.

GGG has severely underrated defense and excellent counter punching ability as exhibited in the Monroe and Lemieux fights. He moves his head more than you think, everyone is too keen to point out the big shots that land on him (which do nothing to him, if we're being honest), that you end up ignoring the subtleties.

As for him being slow, not every elite fighter has to have fast feet to get by. As long as you have a better understanding of range and timing than your opponent, then you can somewhat diminish the speed advantage.

G 's footwork is very efficient and wastes no energy. He gives up no ground and has some of the best ring cutting ability in boxing, something that Canelo lacks. His balance is also some of the best I've seen too.

4. Hearns

I can see 2 and 3 being flip-flopped but I feel pretty strongly that Duran belongs at the top and Hearns at the bottom.

Leonard is frustrating to discuss because he's legitimately a great, great fighter on top of being one of boxing's biggest ever media creations. He has some huge wins but if you want to start comparing him to greats then eventually you have to bring up the crazy number of extenuating circumstances in his fights and it inevitably turns into pure shitposting.

It's not just about big shots that land on him it's also about the combinations he takes. It's like he freezes up when attacked. Its a classic saying in boxing that great fighters don't get hit more than once at a time. Because they do something to avoid it. Little g just sits there. Also, the cutting off the ring claim is hardly valid. He had a chance to use that supposed great skill vs Jacobs and it was hardly evident. little g is going to freeze up like he usually does when canelo opens up on him and he'll eat combos like he usually does. Little g is simply too slow in hand speed and has major defensive flaws.
>>
>>75828252
I don't care to bicker about Hagler-Leonard, I'll just say that I've never heard anyone make the argument that Leonard would win a return fight. I think people might view Leonard differently if he'd ever had a full series in a normal timespan...but of course he's still an incredible fighter.

>>75828264
I think Hagler might be too experienced, otherwise Jones Jr. is probably too big for the rest of them. Hearns could maybe trouble him with his reach but his chin would let him down at some point. Tough to pick anybody against Robinson.

Show me an example of him freezing up when he's attacked.

I'll give you the Jacobs point. He boxed well and tried to keep GGG in the center of the ring, he used his feet and range really effectively in that fight. It's also hard to cut the ring off against an opponent who outweighs you by 20 + pounds. Styles make fights, and Canelo does not fight like Jacobs at all.

I'm telling you, his defense and footwork is solid. It's hard to notice because he's not overtly flashy. Boxing is a game of inches and GGG is very evasive when it comes to that. Effective and efficient.

Just like Klitschko's, Golovkin's defence isn't based around fast twitch muscles and close slips and bobs.
It's based around distance control, in Lemieux's fight for example he was barely hit by anything, his defence just doesn't seem flashy to me, and he only uses it when necessary.
>>

His intention for that fight was to outgun Brook in a brawl, which he did

Brook is also a world class boxer so obviously he was gonna land some shots himself

He has one of the best amateur records, during which he beat some current big names, and has showed that he can change strategy in different fights, when necessary. Most of the Golovkin hate comes from people who don't like that he is more popular than their favorite fighter.

If he had popularity like Usyk's, /box/ would have Golovkin top 5 p4p.

Actually it's just that they'd rather come across dumb than tryhard. If there's one thing people laugh at more than commentators pronouncing names wrong, it's them using proper pronunciation because it sounds so funny coming from a working class guy. Particularly the case for french names which all sound funny.

Sorry, my mistake.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4Cl7DaAaL8 4:36-5:08

Leading up to the Brook fight GGG constantly said that he would turn it into a street fight to please the audience in London. When he was getting hit by Brook he responded well with the harder, better placed and wild shots. Brook's power did nothing to him and GGG showed it absolutely no respect. We've seen him in fights were he's boxed more intelligently behind the jab and used better movement such as the Lemieux and Jacobs fights.
Guarantee he won't box Canelo the same way he boxed against Brook.

> Against a bum he's showing some of the same weaknesses. Just a very poor response to being under fire.

Again, he was never in any sure sign of real danger. He was always there, responded brilliantly with clean and hard shots of his own, backing Monroe up.

>As usual little g eats practically every shot. combinations are landing with little to no head movement.

Okay, this isn't true. During the first half of that round I noticed Golovkin slipping, blocking and parrying a lot of shots. Even when Ouma landed a couple of clean shots toward the end of the round, Golovkin planted himself and engaged well, even backing Ouma into a corner with harder shots. You made it sound as if GGG was getting BTFO.

Probably didnt want AJ to do the business either.

The thing that fucks me off about BT is that they have Ian Darke on the payroll who was by a mile Sky's best ever boxing commentator and yet they aren't using him. He just sticks to football shite I'll never watch.
>>
>>75842287
kek, BT don't let Buncey get away with rewriting his predictions in the same way as he's used to. He got massively called out for saying Chavez would do very well against Canelo and all he kept denying it
>>
>>75802727
Russia and Ukraine are the best by quantity / quality index.
>>

That would be Cuba by a mile

Fuck OFF sky I don't want to subsidise ridiculous Premier League salaries to watch the 3 decent international shows a year.

If it was combined active pro + amateur boxers I'm sure Russia would make the top five

Puerto Rico is almost certainly the best boxing nation per capita, despite going through a little dry patch at the moment

Will do obviously, just prefer when things are on boxnation.

What does /box/ think of Linares? I tend to like real champs like him. Even if their not necessarily the best. I really want him to go on and beat the unpassionate Garcia, but I Garcia sets up his power shots too well for Linares to last all 12. Feels bad man.
>>
>>75842999
Amazing hands but leaky defence and fades hard down the stretch

Apparently he's coming back to the UK for Luke Campbell next. Might as well take out Flanagan after that too
>>
anyone here who knows how to write a critical essay/review and wants to correct mine?
>>

What must Flanagan be thinking that Luke Campbell has secured the Linares fight before him

Unpopular opinion but I would pick Campbell to beat Flanagan. His stiffer jab, longer reach and faster hands would completely neutralise Terry

Misha Aloyan on his debut just beat that Nicaraguan who briefly looked like he was going to stop Jamie Conlan

He's 28 years old and already looked somewhat past his prime in Rio so it looks like they want to move him quickly

He holds amateur wins over both Kal Yafai and Andrew Selby btw

business, just because I'm too dumb for anything else lol

it's a shame that /box/ posters don't write about their personal lifes, I don't know what the fuck all these guys are doing
that guy from, for example, I wanna know everything about him
>>
>>75846461
He got his silver medal taken because he used nasal spray with a banned ingredient. I think he was just disillusioned, and also this is probably the best time in history for Russian/former-USSR fighters to turn pro

>You think he's got enough of a window to be a serious title contender?

I want to see footage of his debut because it was a pretty risky opponent and it seems that he won 10-0. He could potentially be fighting for a world title within two years, but obviously he's not going to have that much time to make a mark. Hopefully he doesn't get stalled by ducking and poor management like Beterbiev

thx

It really is the perfect time to be a Euro Olympian, they just had that card with Usyk and Gvozdyk looking to ride Lomachenko's momentum...I'm sure there are at least a couple of Kazakh amateurs that would love to get a spot on one of Golovkin's undercards and do the same thing.
>>
>>75846918

Im jealous of all the Euro's. Seems super common to get jobs all around europe.

I never hear of people getting jobs outside of Canada when they graduate.

I wanna move.
>>

>>

Unfortunately my favourite two Kazakhs from the last Olympic cycle, Yeleussinov and Alimkhanuly, seem to have consigned themselves to promotional purgatory right off the bat. Damn shame they weren't picked up by Klimas or someone

What the FUCK is wrong with the Furys?
>>
>>75847425

Tyson's a head case but I do think we'll see Tyson Fury fight this year because the Joshua fight is the only thing motivating him and if he doesn't do a warm up fight he'll be overlooked for Wilder. Hughie was a strange one but he's still mandatory as it currently stands.
>>
I've seen the GGG vs Canelo sparring footage so ask me a question /box/?
>>
>>75847576
I can see Tyson delaying the September fight until maybe December. No way he'll lose enough weight for the September bout. And we don't even know UKAD's decision on Tyson's doping yet.

Hughie either.
>>

did our boy, the kazakh thunder, do us proud?

did golovkin go easy on him like in the other footage of him sparring?

>>75847423
Doesn't the government take care of those guys while they fight in the amateurs? Seems like a ton of risk if you don't get thing right from the get-go.
>>
>>75847674
He was having a hard time catching Canelo but when he did Canelo was definitely hurt. Canelo was still a kid when they sparred.
>>
>>75836959
not saying he wasn't the most exciting, but if he was a little less agressive theres a chance he woulda never gotten KO'd so hard all those times

in hindsight going toe to toe with hagler knowing their chin disparity was just foolhardy
>>
>>75847683
He did and he didn't. When Canelo was catching him he picked up the pace.
>>
>>75839234

His wife is named Paris, so I guess they just decided to go with the geographic motif.

"Tyson Fury" is not exactly a quintessentially British name either. That family marches to the beat of its own drums

My boys brother trains over their and I tagged along to big bear with him. Abel was showing footage to some of his guys.
>>
>>75840710

He's a short outboxer, which is fucked.

He tried to develop his inside fighting against Ruiz, but almost lost. And Ruiz is garbage.

He's fucked against any decent tall guy.
>>
>>75847820
When I think of sterotypically British names, "Lennox Lewis" isn't in the top 9 million, either.

All British boxers should be named Nigel Carruthers.
>>
>>75847423
yeleussinov looked so fucking good in the olympics

shame if he ever gets to a level of boxing on television he'll be about 30 and shit by the time it comes around

Ah, the bald tranny look. A classic.
>>

And yet "Vladimir Klitschko" is the most Russian boxer name ever.

It's more Russian than "Ivan Drago," which I did not think was possible.
