he's not doing too terribly on non-clay surfaces. final at the AO (ugh) was a really good result. he's only lost to Fed and Querrey thus far. it's a good year for him. but realistically, I don't think he'll be #1. #2 is also a bit of a stretch but it's much more attainable IMO
also, his body has to hold up for the rest of the season. dude's almost 31. who knows what'll happen in the next few months, considering his schedule

dont bet for Ferrer he is washed up as can be. They are both old and unmotivated so betting is hard to predict. One of them can have a bad back or a nagging wife/child and it can ruin their game

Tsonga just had a child, which made hi tennis worse but his mental game better. Ferrer is just very old and bad nowadays. However the h2h is 3-1 and on clay 2-0 to Ferrer. So maybe betting on him could be cheeky if the odds are great, but its very unlikely that Ferrer wins

I mean the governments of the EU and ECB literally bailed out banks who made bad investments in Greek obligations. The free market is a paradise for big business. Tax evasion has never been easier. The proposed TTIP was going to allow business to sue countries if they wrote laws that threatened the profits of a business.

The rise of the EU in Finland and most of Europe has resulted in quickly widening income inequality.

But somehow the EU is socialist?

not if you know what it means

Google says:
>a political and economic theory of social organization which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole

I.e. when workers controll the factories etc etc, another definition which is sometimes referred to as "state capitalism" is when a strong state owns and controls the factories.

The same way it wasnt socialism when Bismarck created the welfare state to undermine the revolutionary workers. It is not socialism when the rich countries pay more than they straight get out from the EU.

The rich countries profit immensely from the opened markets. For example, the open markets of Italy allows Volkswagen to sell more cars to Italians, which brings in revenue from Italy to Germany. This is a simplification of course.

None of this is an argument.
Redistributing wealth between the rich and poor is not capitalism, it is communism, whatever definitions you want to throw at me.

The EU is not purely socialist, they allow lobbying from monopolies to make more stringent laws that push out budding businesses in return for funding, but to say it is not socialist in the slightest is retarded.

You're just wrong though. Small scale redistribution does not mean socialism if it is in a society where the means of production are owned privately and the profits are extracted from the workers.

Contemplate the middle ages where the church was collecting 10% of wealth from the people and then filling some social. This didn't make the middle ages any less feudal.

Socialism isn't about the nature of a society's welfare programs. It concerns how the economy is organized and who controls the commons, the lands and the factories.

I think making the poor live better has nothing to do with money, (you can live very comfortably being poor) but with expectations and knowledge. You have to teach people a) how to live with little money and how to organize their finances; and b) not to make material gains and objects something to fulfill their lives with.

>In many countries people can survive but still feel shit because of relative poverty, people feel bad if their friends and neighbours are much richer

Which reinforces my view that money itself isn't the problem when it comes to problems derived from inequality. Even if everyone had the same amount of wealth, people would find ways to set themselves apart, which encourages and reinforces artificial ways to people to self brand and elevate their own status to compete with the ones that set themselves apart and so on.

The solution is ideological: to stop pure income as being a source of identity, status or potential. For most of history, wealth was just a supplement for a life or existence.
But of course, the only thing that can change this is Time, this generation is screwed.
>>

No offence, but from the little I heard from him, Chomsky seemed like a simpleton when it comes to social issues.
>>

>ideological: to stop pure income as being a source of identity, status or potential.
this is literally the base of western culture though. I'll agree that it certainly won't happen in this generation, but i'd go further and say that I don't think it'll ever happen in the west

read JS Mill's on liberty, not really economic work though

got Ha-Joon Chang's Economis: The users guide in christmas present from relative who studies national economy, its supposed to be good

>are you arguing against free will finland?

nah just analysing your different starting points on free will
> Chomsky seemed like a simpleton when it comes to social issues

He wrote a little book called "Manufacturing consent" the book is actually very important and not small at all
>>

Yes, but familiar and traditional values were usually there to balance things out, now the values themselves are pure hedonistic, as Zizek puts it (just to make it clear, I don't follow much of his thought nor do I agree with him most of the time but this is correct).
>>
I'm not going to read any of this gay shit you're recommending

>Ha-Joon Chang is a heterodox economist
Not a huge fan of marxist economists but i may take a look. Tbh don't overlook economic thought in your philosophy studies. Much of it (pre-20th century at least) is not boring. Landreth and Colander have a nice overview if you're ever interested my man.

That is precisely due to the fall of religion and I am not even religious myself.

Not really, religion has just been coopted for narcissistic and immediate purposes like always (i.e. the fall of religion is a symptom and not a cause), this institution isn't really apart from the world as they like to think.

>quotes Zizek but thinks Chomsky is a simpleton on social issues

just so you know you're wrong, Zizek is just more entertaining because he is a cultural critic with psycho analysis as weapon, while Chosmky is more, "empirical"

>b) not to make material gains and objects something to fulfill their lives with.

As I study rn there is a shift in Finnish education financing from humanistic subjects to "muh stem" stuff. Emblematic for the current culture over all. The west is actually materially quite all right for now. The change that is needed is not more stuff but rather a creative re-organization of society and our values.

As I'm a philosophy fag I come to think of Athens and how your most important duty wasnt to work but as a citizen to discuss, learn, participate in democracy, the arts etc. etc.

how, exactly, does this come about?

As I said, I quoted only for this particular issue. And Chomsky is a simpleton precisely because he is empirical.

I can't claim to be a Continental or not because I read very little I philosophy after Hegel, I just disagree with the simple materialistic view of humanity.

Yes, you can't use a calculator to talk about ideas.
>>
>>75811972
you would not be able to formulate any ideas without materials from which you can reference

>>75812031
Which can only be represented in the form of universal concepts, and from axiomatic concepts is empirical science build upon. I can go full Hegel on you and we will go all night with this.
>>
>>75812133
getting 2 abstract 4 me... these concepts have their root in the material world. they didn't/don't exist a priori.
>>
>>75812294
My point is that you can't think or say actual material things, you can only think thoughts. And the truth behind the material world (whether as natural law or definitions or genus) can only be represented and recognized by thought. It's a two way street: whenever you think you are in the natural world and saw the natural for what it is, you fall back into thought and vice versa (as your post mentions). Thought and being are the same.
