The only two major networks to truly die in the last several years have been MTV and now ESPN is dying.

ESPN had an old and busted business model they never adapted, but they also caved to SJWs and feminists and catered content for progressives. This alienated the majority of sports fans and targeted two demos that don't really watch sports to begin with. This only sped up the cable cutting that was going to be their demise to begin with.

Cable TV is dying.

Instead of adapting to the changing media landscape by shifting content online, developing a better website, host interactive sports streams, etc, they stayed the course and suffered. They only have themselves to blame.

Shows like Sportscenter are completely redundant in this age. people can just do a quick search on social media to find cool sports clips and game highlights. They don't need to watch an hour long show, with commercials, of 2-3 unfunny panelists slowly going through each major sport of the day.

Also, Injecting politics into sports, which for many is a form of escapism, isn't the brightest idea regardless of political affiliation. There are sports venues that already offer political commentary for those who are interested.

Other TV stations have programs that aren't time dependent live broadcast like sport. No match or competition to broadcast, broadcast something completely unrelated to sports. For sports network the obvious alternative is more sports, that can be re-runs of recent relevant matches and competitions or alternatively just find some less mainstream sports cover to cater to niche audiences.
