pretty simple. he was actually 4 years older than he claimed to be.
he dominated all the age capped leagues but once he hit the pros he was replacement-level.
all the regulars around the maryland soccerplex figured it out pretty quick but he sold jerseys and tickets.

This pretty much. And US Soccer was so desperate for a superstar, they hyped him nonstop.

Looks like they've learned their lesson with Pulisic. He's obviously getting hyped, but noting like Adu. And Pulisic has actually accomplished something at the top level.
