>>
>>75759072
It's obviously Mayweather v. McGregor
>>
>>75759882
Honestly still don't see it that way. Canelo is nowhere near as big as Jacobs and if this is for the IBF belt (which it probably will be considering he's already not fighting for the WBC) he'll not be allowed to rehydrate nearly as much as Jacobs either. Canelo will have to win on points since he won't have the power to knock him out and GGG's jab is monstrous, his power in general is the ultimate equaliser. Canelo will have to be perfect and I just don't think he can be.

Could be wrong, but I think people are knee-jerking a bit now that Canelo has suddenly become some huge favourite off the back of GGG looking bad against someone who was essentially a couple of divisions heavier by the time the fight started.

GGG is going to kill Canelo on the Mexican Independence Day
>>
>>75760078
GGG looked a bit off vs Brook as well, granted he finished him in the fifth. He might have been ill during the fight because he was headhunting straightaway and was getting hit more than usual.
>>
>>75760078
I think Canelo can hurt him and I think GGG will fight cautiously again
>>
>>75760121
Yeah I think that was more a lack of respect. Against Jacobs he was a lot more careful and while he was hit, he only took around 3 clean power shots in the entire fight. If even Jacobs at that weight couldn't knock him out I can't see how Canelo can.
>>
>>75760214
Canelo is much better at finding a home for his punches than Jacobs
>>
>>75760214
I don't think Canelo knocks him out but he can outpoint him to a decision.
>>
>>75760210
Canelo having power is one of the biggest memes in boxing, he's similar to AJ in that respect. Against anyone remotely the same size as him he hasn't looked capable of knocking them out. He's a great combination puncher but doesn't have massive one punch power. Think there's zero chance he knocks him out honestly, GGG's chin is good.
>>
>>75760226
That's his only chance I agree. GGG needs to hurt him badly to stop his flow or knock him out altogether. 3
>>
>>75760234
Canelo has scored better one-punch KOs than GGG mate

I don't think he has thudding power like GGG but he has explosive power
>>
>>75760245
I think GGG has the longer, stronger jab and will win a slow-paced fight. I think it's when he tries to get aggressive that Canelo will punish him in the pocket with his slipping, catching and countering
>>
>>75760097

Literally free money betting on GGG
>>
>>75760259
Give me an example and I'll tell you why you're wrong
>>
>>75760368
When has GGG ever scored a one-hitter quitter like Canelo's over Kirkland, Khan and Smith? Only against Ishida and Macklin off the top of my head

I 100% guarantee that GGG will be fighting cautiously again like he did against Lemieux and Jacobs. Canelo can hurt him, and absolutely will if he's too aggressive like he was against Brook for example
>>
GGG has no defence for uppercuts and Canelo has some of the most beautiful uppercuts in the game. Canelo, with his shorter arms, better head movement and preciser punching, will have a big advantage in close range. For Canelo the principal danger is lying against the ropes, where he is forced to square up and Golovkin gets to determine the range
>>
I am a dicksucking faggot casual when it comes to boxing

now, is GGG really that good lads? a quick search tells me he has 33 KO's on 37 of his wins. is he LITERALLY the greatest of all time?
>>
So, do we know how much GGG is going to get for his retirement?
Did Loeffler's tactics pay off or did ODLH got away with his 15-mil offer?
>>
>>75760600
He's maybe on the verge of becoming a top 10 middleweight (160 lbs) of all time. Canelo will be the first top 10 pound-for-pounder / potential Hall of Famer that he's fought, so let's see how he does
>>
>>75760418
Khan is chinny at welter let alone at caneloweight. Kirkland has been knocked out by an Ishida jab who is as pillow fisted as they come and Smith is a British level fighter without a single good win. What is true is that he couldn't knock out Angulo, and couldn't hurt an old Cotto or a Chavez standing there to be hit which has been done by people far smaller than Canelo.

GGG on the other hand does have world class knockout at the same weight as him in Lemieux and has knocked out everyone of a lower level too. So far as power goes it isn't even close.
>>
>>75760619
Yeah I'm curious too. I don't even believe that $15m was a real offer in the first place because even if they give him 50% he may not earn that much (do we really expect this PPV to breach 1m buys? Maybe at a stretch, but it certainly won't be much more even if it does)
>>
>>75760705
Those KOs had nothing to do with his opponentss chins. Look at where the punches were placed. No one stays conscious after being hit with full power on the chin like that

GGG didn't render Lemieux unconscious. Like I said, it's thudding power vs explosive power
>>
>>75760705
Lemieux got stopped by Marco Antonio Rubio
>>
>>75760600

GOAT? No, but he's unquestionably a top 10 p4p in boxing today. Which is pretty damn impressive.

Honestly, the number of wins and KOs don't really matter. Plenty of boxers accumulate crazy records just by fighting garbage boxers.
>>
>>75760726
if cotto - canelo makes 900k buys, this fight will easily make more than 1m buys
>>
>>75760810
So why can't he do it against fighters who aren't tiny or bums?
>>
>>75760839
Fair point, and though GGG's best KOs aren't incredible, he doesn't have the obvious black marks in times he's failed to do it either.
>>
>>75761001
Well last night Chavez barely engaged so Canelo had few counter-punching opportunities and had to initiate the action against a defence-minded fighter, which always makes it difficult to score a KO

Cotto is pretty defensively sound and was faster than Canelo (more so than GGG, for sure)

Canelo will be much quicker than GGG so, assuming that GGG fights aggressively, Canelo will have a wealth of counter-punching opportunities and he will land clean punches. If GGG fights behind the jab then he could limit those openings, but it's hard to win clearly throwing only jabs (as we saw against Jacobs)
>>
>>75761077
It wasn't just that he didn't knock out Chavez or Cotto though. He didn't even hurt them, despite hitting them both clean throughout the fight. Not very impressive for someone with supposed monster power when tiny guys managed it previously.
>>
>>75760997
I reckon this fight will be +/- 100k of Canelo vs Cotto. Cotto has a huge Puerto Rican fanbase after all

>>
At the introduction on the stage, you could clearly see Canelo is terrified while GGG literally danced it out knowing he finally got the opportunity to beat Canelo. GGG is always confident but this time, it was even on higher level.

Furthermore I didn't know Canelo's height is like in line with GGG's shoulders. Dude really blows smaller ones out everytime.
>>
>>75760078
Agreed. GGG wins.

>>75761224

He may not have actually wobbled them but I thought you could see that his punches had an effect on them when they landed

I think a large component of Canelo's power is his accuracy, so if you take that away like Mayweather and Lara did then he's not going to blast through your guard or wear you down. But Golovkin probably will be there to be hit at times, so I will not be surprised if we see Golovkin hurt or at least bothered by Canelo's power at some point

>>
>>75761649
He's accurate at mid-range but not particularly so up close. I think Canelo will want to fight in the pocket, where a lot of GGG's work is smothered or glancing

A journeyman named Amar Amari staggered GGG too. Shit happens, especially to still-developing fighters
>>
>>75762589
I just don't see Canelo having enough power to hurt Golovkin, maybe the inverse is also correct, we'll have to see how much Canelo respects GGG's power and how he slips those jabs.
>>
>>75762589
That was before he was with Abel, before he had any backing or titles, and he'd barely turned pro, he was still shaking off his amateur tendencies back then. Not comparable to Canelo's considerable failures against Cotto at all.
>>
>>75762869
Canelo was like 19 years old when he fought Jose Cotto...
>>
>>75762787
I think they'll both be able to hurt each other, and for that reason it'll be a cautious fight. If GGG wins it'll be on the back of the jab again. I'm leaning 55-60% towards Golovkin, principally based on his jab and Canelo's poor footwork. But I seriously doubt it'll be the blow-out that so many are predicting
>>

They're fairly legit, it's just that at the top tier all the money is in masking drug usage not in catching it. So all the best people won't be working for them. It's caught a few out though and is as good as it gets really though, so it'll look pretty dodgy if Canelo decides he wants to drop out.

>>75764842
Being brought to a disadvantage is never great, but the way he was akwardly doing those combo's when he had Canelo against the ropes was even worse. Not one of those punches looked as if they had power behind it.

The only thing that interested me in this fight was that either Chavez has a good chin or Canelo punches like a boy.
>>
>>75765091
>or Canelo punches like a boy

It's this, Canelo can only knock out welterweights and bums. Anyone who has even the slightest defensive technical ability he struggles with a lot.
>>
What do we expect the undercard for Canelo vs Golovkin to be? I'm guessing Gonzalez vs Sor Rungvisai II will be the main one. Is it too much to hope for Cuadras vs Estrada on the same bill? Plus I guess Golden Boy will want at least one or two of their other fighters getting good coverage too

Worst case scenario where they're both edgy and scared to engage is still better than MayPac by a long way. Neither of them are defensively proficient enough to spoil as well as Floyd did.

>>
so who do you have Canelo or GGG?
>>
>>75767758
GOATnelo, I think they got GGG at a right time. He started his decline but its not as evident so Canelo will still get the full credit for the victory.
>>
Did GGG intentionally did not perform that well against Daniel Jacobs to lure Canelo?
>>
>>75767758
Canelo's too pillow fisted to knock him out and doesn't have a good enough defence to keep the power shots at bay. Especially with the IBF's checkweight forcing him to stay near 160 I just don't think he can make himself strong enough to still be able to withstand what will be coming at him in the second half of the fight.
>>
>>75767758

Golovkin by decision, it's an easier fight than Jacobs
>>
>>75767868
No but that fight doesn't tell us a lot about how the Canelo fight will go, Jacobs avoided the IBF belt so he could come in like 20lbs heavier than GGG
>>
>>75767906
Also, Jacobs movement was key in that fight. GGG could never get settled
>>
>>75766582
This is acccurate.
>>
>>75767306
There's no way it'll be worse than May v. Pac. GGG is an aggressive fighter who is willing to take shots in order to keep advancing, and Canelo is combo counter puncher. Neither of them are very defensive. This fight has spice written all over it.

Jacobs is much faster than Canelo and he couldn't get away from Golovkin, so that won't work for this fight. I believe Jacobs has more power as well, and Golovkin was never hurt by any punch.

No chance. Mayweather vs Canelo sold that much because of Mayweather being a draw and Canelo being undefeated. Golovkin isn't a draw and Canelo's fight with Cotto did 900,000. I would expect them to break 1 million but not by much.
>>
>>75790565
will boxing ever do 2 million ppv's again in america?
>>
>>75789983
Don't think a PPV that doesn't involve Pac or Floyd can do 2mil. I expect it to do 900.000k at worst and 1.6 mil at best
>>
>>75790812
Of course, it's only a matter of time until another star comes along. Even the Mayweather-Pacquiao record will get broken someday. Not soon, but PPV will stick around forever and the casuals that drive huge PPV numbers are never going to bother with streams.
>>
>>75790812

Mayweather's exhibition fight with McGregor would probably be the best selling PPV of the year in America. They lack star power.

With PBC slowly self-destructing and his fighters looking to jump ship, he's going to have to throw his guys into as many big-money fights as possible before they all walk and the game is up. Canelo-Chavez could be a sign of things to come on PPV until the PBC meltdown is over.

Spinks was there for a retirement payday I think. Didn't even have an alphabet title at that point because he'd vacated to avoid his mandatory and take an easy payday against Gerry Cooney. By the time the Tyson fight came around he'd been inactive for a long time and tipped the scales at a career-high weight. Not saying Tyson wouldn't have won anyway but there were a lot of signs that Spinks had already checked out mentally.
>>
>>75790504

>>
To be honest, I think Chavez doing shit was arranged so Canelo would have a clean face for the Golovkin face off

It would certainly explain why Golden Boy was so opposed to Golovkin fighting before September.
>>
>>75794900

>>
>>75794033
A lot of people think he threw the fight, and others think he just came with 0 intention of winning. On top of that he talked shit about how he had the best preparation in his life and how dedicated he was, and then put on the worst performance of his career on a card that people paid 70$ to watch. Why do you think people wouldn't talk shit about Chavez?
>>
>>75794953
Don't know about any of that, but they had a Golovkin ringwalk prepped and neither fighter really made any attempt to let their hands go. Perhaps it's just the cost of getting a great fight made.

Super Middleweight and Cruiserweight confirmed for the World Boxing Super Series

Any predictions on who will and won't be involved?
>>
>>75799972
Pretty much anyone relevant at cruiser which is why they chose it I imagine.

Groves and Zeuge could well be involved at super middle since Sauerland are semi-running it. Abraham and Ramirez likely too since they have shit else options wise. Would be quite surprised if Eubank, DeGale or Smith get involved though, no risks for them.
>>
>>75800029
I think Smith vs Dirrell will be one of the quarter finals. It would explain why it still hasn't got a date despite the purse bid being won by a Haymon surrogate months ago

I don't think Arum will get involved, so that rules out Ramirez

Kessler has apparently come out of retirement recently so I'm betting he's involved

Cruiserweight is harder for me to predict, but I really hope Usyk is involved. K2's relationship with HBO might be an obstacle though
>>
>>75800053
>I don't think Arum will get involved, so that rules out Ramirez

Issue for Ramirez is that he has nowhere to go. He's a very good super middleweight but has no money fights there and despite being big enough to move to Light Heavy there are some monsters up there he'd probably rather avoid. I don't see why he wouldn't want to get involved in this to be honest, his best chance to make good money.
>>
>>75800074
Showtime will have the American TV rights so I don't see Arum allowing it. He'll be the forgotten man like Bute was during the Super Six

I think his next fight will be against Jesse Hart
>>
