Because this new generation of defenders are millennials with way shorter attention span and focus than the defenders born in the 60s and 70s we all remember and worship: Nesta, Cannavaro, Maldini, Materazzi, Stam, Hierro, Puyol, Montero, Thuram, Desailly, Campbell, Ferdinand, Terry, Lucio, Hyypia, Carvalho etc. Barzagli was a late-bloomer, Bonucci and Chiellini are basically the retro-players, the exceptions.
