And, it goes without saying, played fewer 457 games than Pelé, who played 1375 games in his career. The 'king' is only fourth in this hierarchy, still behind Arthur Friedenreich (1329 goals).

Ruth was the Wilt Chamberlin of 20's baseball, he was so far ahead of everyone else its pointless to make comparisons. Cobb was great but not at Ruths level. Also the MLB didnt really turn into the money printing juggernaut it is today until the 1990s. Canseco was an MVP level player and he was only making 400 grand at Oakland in the late 80s. Players in the 70s made so little money they often took offseason jobs as security gaurds and such. Just because MLB has been around forever doesnt mean it wasnt bush league for most of its existence.
