If the cost isn't too high why the fuck not?
He is the standout best measurables and great tape far above the next highest two being Quincy Wilson/tabor and Marlon Humphrey
With Sidney Jones gone and gareon Coney under rape accusations
Cornerback just got a lot more thin
Lattimore is the only corner worth a top 20 pick maybe Humphrey for a zone team, I personally mocked him to Miami
>>
>>75529442
Good luck.

>Browns sources say that they are set at #1 and Mitchell Trubisky is not happening. "We know who we want." Also, "Our new defense is based on attacking, Myles fits exactly what we want to do."

Unless the Eagles give up the next 4 years of #1 picks, I don't see it happening.

Honestly what I see happening
>>
>>75529479
Sashi was pretty clear that trading down this year isn't happening. They're actually going to either stay or move up depending on their set draft board and who they have as the best possible player. I think they may even jump up for a DB or Safety if Trubisky goes to the Jets and they can't make a deal with the Titans. The Titans GM was a Belichick understudy and he is young, willing to trade down, acquire picks and play it smart. They'll field every offer for #5.
>>
>>75529442
Just heard that you're retarded for listening to that and given it even a second of consideration.

Could the Brown's plan be to keep unproven QBs and use the extra funds to beef up every other spot on the team? Could be cool. Seems like they are already doing cool stuff with that extra cap space.

New to NFL. How interesting is the NFL Draft event? The time is right after morning wake up, so maybe I'll watch it if it's not boring.

Don't believe them It's pretty boring if you're new to NFL. There can be 15-20 minutes between picks being announced on day 1

If you don't know much about college ball or how most NFL teams rosters are already stacked then its probably not for you
>>

>>
>>75529834
yes nfl.com has it for free
http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/live

but really unless you're familiar with teams and players i'm not sure it's worth staying awake for.

BUT it is hours of discussion of teams and players and things, and that's a tempting oasis when there is no actual football for months.

Got it. Cheers.

Why would they do this? Doesn't this go against everything DePodesta and Sashi are trying to do? Is there pressure from the owner or is there something I'm missing?
>>
>>75530224

>CLG: Trubisky goes No. 1 overall in McGinn's mock

I haven't been following much offseason football but is this true? Are the Browns really going to pass up on an obvious number one pick to reach for a QB? Holy shit. Cleveland fans, you need to mutiny. Your team clearly does not speak for you and they have no interest in turning that ship around.
>>
>>75530321
See
>>75530314

If the Brown's go for a QB that early, then the owner is just calling shots and the team is officially in the shitter again. Even if he turns out to be great, its pretty obvious the front office wouldn't risk that much on him.
>>
>>75530288
from what I've read a lot of people have hinted Haslam is pushing for Mitch

what I'm hoping is this causes a chain reaction for Jamal Adams to fall to 6

49ers now take garrett, bears take thomas etc etc

>>
Reese, I plead to you, for the love of god just take a Tackle.

>>
>>75530379
thats definitely not impossible but I don't believe Macc values the running back position that much.
>>
>>75530351
Exactly that, even if Trubisky turns out to be the literal GOAT it's still a bad move taking him at #1. No other team values him that high and even if you trade back 1 spot with SF and only add like a 7th round pick for the trouble you'd still get Trubisky and additional picks
>>
Let's be honest though, none of us have ANY idea how other teams value Trubisky.
>>
>garrett
>good
>ghost when they play against ole miss' shitty line
>>
Also, holy fuck, why does /sp/ hate Trubisky?
>>
>>75529600
Keeping what they have right now and sticking to their board seems to be the plan from what I can tell. Honestly, its a deep defensive draft, so that could work in their favor for this season, and they could focus more on offense next season by adding some better talent at the skill positions and possibly a franchise QB in the 2018 draft, the problem is that if they win a few games, they could knock themselves out of the San Darnold race (if he does come out instead of staying for his RS Junior season) or Josh Rosen (even though he hasn't proven anything so far). After those two, no one else really jumps out or projects to be anything more than an OK quarterback. Maybe Josh Allen could be one, but he needs to have a pretty good year and a major bowl victory, which will be hard because he plays for Wyoming in the WAC, and G5 teams will find it damn near impossible to make the CFP.

Either way, they can drastically improve their defense in this draft as long as they stick to the BPA philosophy.
>>
>>75530443
>played 13 games his entire career

>>
>>75530443
I don't hate him

he's just being incredibly over valued, similar to Goff

he should be a late first at best
>>
>>75530410
Bad move. He won't last that long. Someone is going to reach for the top qb. It happens every year. If you think he is going to be good then take him.
>>
>>75530458
Trubisky played in an offense that's much more pro ready than the shit Goff was playing in.
>>
>>75529609
Roll for 49ers
>>
I hope there's a QB rush and 4 go in the top 20 so the Fins get a good player to drop to them
>>
>>75530472
being in shotgun 99% all the time isnt a pro offense

Again I think he's a good prospect but to take him over Myles Garrett or anyone else in the top is the definition of a reach
>>
There is a clear number one this year right?

>inb4 on /sp/ disagrees
>>
>>75530468
San Fran isn't going to take a QB, even the worst negotiator of all time would be able to leverage the #1 pick to get at the bare minimum A SINGLE additional pick. The Browns have multiple advantages, one being the first pick and second being the chance to select Myles Garrett. I'll say it again, if the Browns draft Trubisky at #1 it will be a big failure regardless of how Trubisky turns out
>>
>>75530536
never put your trust into Cleveland
>>
>>75530472
Not really, UNC primarily ran a spread with Marquise Williams, I think they modified it a little bit to fit Trubisky, but still ran primarily out of the shotgun instead of under center. That's one of the big problems is adjusting to three step, five step, and seven step drops from under center. Its one of the biggest knocks on spread QBs. Not that there aren't a fair amount of shotgun sets in the NFL, but with running the football and play action being important staples, running bootlegs and such, its a tough adjustment to make. Why? I have no idea. I'm still of the belief that every QB should be able to take snaps from under center no matter what just as a mandatory part of the position. Look at Watson. He rarely, if at all, took snaps from under center, and ran the hurry up a good bit with the up tempo stuff that doesn't work against the dynamic defenses in the NFL. Another thing that got me about Watson was during Grudens QB camp, every play he threw at Watson, with the advanced verbiage, threw him for a loop. Almost like if he has to call plays from the huddle instead of just "Tiger 2" or "Purple right 6" or whatever simplified quick offense calls they used, he is screwed. Scary to think that the NFL may have to change a bit to cater to those guys.
>>
>Bleacher Report's Jason Cole reports there is "growing chatter" the Jaguars will select Clemson QB Deshaun Watson with the No. 4 overall pick.

god damn I hope this is true

Watson and Tribusky off the board in the first five picks would leave a lot of good players

Hoping for a Leonard Williams 2.0 situation

What makes it worse is he was a minority shareholder with the Steelers so because he's been around success he thinks he's successful and knows what to look for in players. I can't imagine how bad it has to be for Sashi dealing with him
>>
>>75530662
Podesta plays a big part of it as well, plus how they're all inclusive with the coaching staff as well. They work in lockstep with Hue and his coordinators about what they need. For once in a long time, it seems they have a competent and innovative bunch. You're right though. JH is a turd, but he was spoiled as a partial owner/shareholder in the Steelers organization where he saw Ben lead them and a great D for years. At least his wife appears to have common sense and hopefully can reel him back to stay the fuck out of football operations and stick to the business end.

I am very lukewarm of Jimmy, I'm glad he's putting up money for FAs and such, but he just gets these weird impulses to try and actually run the team. Read
Jim Schwartz’s teams started drafting cornerbacks in 2001. Something to understand about 2001: I was roughly 4, YouTube was -4, and Tom Brady had just run his 40-yard dash in khaki shorts. For some prospects, we only have a height, weight, and 40 times. While he drafted 17 cornerbacks over the years, not one has every possible measurement.

But from what we can see from the corners, some trends are pretty clear:

Not a single CB is below 5’9″, and only 4 are above 6’0″
Only 2 CBs ran slower than 4.51s in the 40-Yard Dash
Out of 14 CBs, only 4 jumped less than a 34 1/2″ in the Vertical
Out of 13 CBs, only 2 jumped less than 119″ in the Broad
Out of 8 CBs, only 2 ran slower than 7s in the 3-Cone
Out of 12 CBs, only, 1 ran slower than 4.34s in the 20-Yard Shuttle
Succinctly:

5’9 – 6’0
<4.52s 40-Yard Dash
>34 1/2″ Vertical
>119″ Broad
<7.00s 3-Cone
<4.34s 20-Yard Shuttle
A note: I don’t think Schwartz is bearish on corners above 6’0, I just don’t think it’s particularly valued. Ahkello Witherspoon and Kevin King likely don’t get any points for being 6’3″.
.
With these things considered, the trends:

First: The cornerbacks that fit all of Schwartz’s parameters and are likely his premiere targets on draft day (as I have them ranked by my Big Board):

Marshon Lattimore, Ohio State (R1 Grade)
Marlon Humphrey, Alabama (R1)
Adoree’ Jackson, USC (R2)
Fabian Moreau, UCLA (R3)
Shaquill Griffin, UCF (R4)
Next up: The cornerbacks that fit only the first lens, the one established by Schwartz’s drafted corners, and were eliminated by the second lens (note: every single one of these were eliminated by the 40-Yard Dash, for what it’s worth):

Gareon Conley, Ohio State (R1)
Chidobe Awuzie, Colorado (R2)
Kevin King, Washington (R2)
Ahkello Witherspoon, Colorado (R3)
Cameron Sutton, Tennessee (R3)
Ezra Robinson, Tennessee State (R6)
Nate Hairston, Temple (R7) (the Broad Jump also eliminated him)

>Brad Johnson was better than Flacco

No. He was a worse QB who played in a shit division defensively and had better playmakers

I get people don't appreciate Joe Flacco because he's a streaky passer sometimes but just look at the how little the Ravens have put around him on offence his entire career up to this point. Seriously for 3 years he had Anquan Boldin in his early 30s that was the best WR he's ever had to throw to in his career. Throw that in with playing the Steelers and Bengals 4 times a year who have both had probably 5 seasons a piece as top 10 NFL defence's and you see why the Ravens have had such a mediocre passing game despite being a winning football team for much of that time

Fuck you for being the person who actaully makes me defend him to Krabs you faggot. I don't care what most people say but Brad fucking Johnson was not a better QB than Joe Flacco

He's worth the projected 24/25mil. Cap is going up again so it's not that big an issue. The next QB up for contract will get even more even if they aren't nearly as good.

Fucking Glennon is getting what, 16 mil this year?

Stafford hasn't been a weakness for the lions. He's solid at worst with flashes of elite ability, but his surrounding cast hasn't been playing up to that same level.

Detroit would be absolutely retarded to even consider letting him walk. He's more than enough to win if the rest of the team is up to snuff.

That's kind of my point lol. Boldin is one of the best possession receivers of all time, and was still extremely good in Baltimore. Combine that with Ray Rice and a couple of WRs designed to maximize Flacco's strong arm without accuracy (getting PI calls) and I find it really hard to feel bad for poor Joe Flacco. During his Super Bowl run the team was 10th in offense mainly because they rushed for nearly 2k yards as a team. They even had a KR who got 3 TDs that year.
>>
>>75533785
Yeah I'm not the guy you were bantering with. Just love that old man Boldin is still a red zone nightmare for defenses
>>

Lol funny how nobody would have ever ranked him as a top 10 NFL WR post 2008 season with the Cardinals yet somehow he's a HoFer?

I love the dude but he's like Terrell Suggs he belong in the hall of very good. also maybe the weapons were about equal if we're referring to Johnsons time with the Bucs (Keyshawn Johnson, Keenan Mccardell, Warrick Dunn = Anquan Boldin, Torrey Smith, Ray Rice) but again Johnson had two good seasons with the Bucs and two mediocre-shit ones. Comparing his whole career he doesn't come close to accomplishing what Flacco has

>>75533755
Yea he wasn't a great QB the year they won the Superbowl he definitely was a big reason why they won it same as Flacco was. I just don't see how you can say a guy he was better even if we're completely discounting injuries and just focusing on how they both played in games started

>>
>>75533785
Again you're forgetting he had Anquan Boldin for 3 years which were the 3 best years of his career. The Ravens won 40 combined regular season and playoff games between 2010-February 2013 then Ozzie went and traded Boldin for a 6th round pick and Flacco has been inconsistent ever since

Worst front office move the Ravens have ever made. Ozzie actually defended it saying without getting rid of Boldin we couldn't have afforded Elvis Dumervil and Daryl Smith. We could have afforded all of them if he hadn't massively overpaid Rice, Pitta and Webb

How easy do you think it is to get into the HoF?

Unless you're a QB or a Pittsburgh Steeler you have to have at least a 4 year period where you are top 3 at whatever position you played. Boldin was a top 10 WR from 02-08 then a top 15-20 WR 09-15

Career stats are nice but neither Boldin nor Suggs will get into the HoF. I could be wrong and neither have retired yet but at this point they won't make it in. There's just too many players who have been better than them

>>
>>75534148
I moved here in 2006 and didn't really watch them before that. While I love watching the GOAT get his next ring, the lions have become my favorite team now.

Stafford gets an unbelievable amount of shit from some redneck locals that don't understand a damn thing about football though. Shit like he doesn't try hard enough and other nonsense.

Then he does shit like truck a player for a few extra rushing yards. Dumb? A bit, yeah. But not something an unmotivated player does.

Stafford is playing to win and has massive potential if he can get some sort of competent cast. The new GM knows that you're better off with a lot off good players rather than a handful of greats alongside shitters. They'll make the playoffs again this year.

He hasn't needed another 5k season. You don't want your QB to have to chuck it deep like he had to in order to stay in games.

You're a fucking retard if you only look at stats. Stafford never had a problem with strength or accuracy, he had a problem being reckless. He's become a lot better about that which is why he has so few turnovers compared to TDs.

It isn't all efficiency and TD/INT, but I do believe that is a very telling stat. Dak and Brady both had 10/10 rushing help last season, the lions were bottom 5 if not the worst in rushing. Despite that, Stafford wasn't churning out picks.

He's going to have another good year this year, especially with some much needed help from a recovered RB stable which likely sees draft help, and maybe a defense that won't make opposing QBs look like owl contenders.

You're experiencing a phenomenon known as cognitive dissonance.

I implore you to re-read this conversation to see how the comment you just made can apply to Dak or just about any QB with a good runningback.

It also has nothing to do with the original point, which you seem to have abandoned and wish to change the goalposts instead.
>>

>Dak and Brady both had 10/10 rushing help last season
Patriots were bottom 10 in the legue in ypc, why do you think they weren't that keen or bringing Blount back?

The rushing attack was only good at catching the ball and in goal line situations

Lions ranked 30th in rushing stats. Stafford was 2nd for the team in rushing.

Blount was efficient at goal line carries which opens Brady up a lot in red zone offense situations.

And BB doesn't overpay for anybody and gets rid of people early rather than late. Blount is on the wrong side of 30 and wants too much money.

To be fair to Stafford, his last 4 years saw him surrounded by the worst offensive line in the league where his pocket would collapse in seconds which forced him to make quick throws or escape the pocket or take a sack.

And Stafford really has gotten more smarter in the game as time has gone on. He tricked the Jaguars with a hard count and there's his 2013 game against the cowboys with his fake spike.

Let me preface this by saying that I would consider Alabama to be better than most NFL teams. There's only a handful of NFL teams (Patriots, maybe the Packers and Seahawks) who could beat Alabama right now.

Now I want you to watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZ1ikF_GE5M

This is Deshawn Watson singlehandedly beating an elite NFL caliber team in what is one of the most clutch performances of all time. If he can be this accomplished at age 22, imagine where he'll be in five years. I can say with complete confidence that Watson is a future NFL hall of famer.
