Yea he had a good season stats wise but he's not a winning QB and neither team was gonna make the playoffs in 2016 because they weren't talented enough too. The Vikings Superbowl hype last off season was laughable with Bridgewater and then just sad with Bradford

also why does it matter how a team starts? Ravens had a piss easy slate of early games and started 3-0. Broncos started 4-0 iirc correctly but it doesn't mean shit if you can't win games in December

Vikings had two mediocre-shit QBs in Bridge then Bradford, an abysmal O line and almost no weapons on offence. Bradford was the king of checkdowns last year but if you think he played like a top 10 QB last year you cannot for the life of you evaluate what makes a consistently great QB

lol okay autismo

Anyways some interesting thoughts from Joe Thomas and other NFL players about Reuben Foster and Jabrill Peppers diluted samples from the combine. I actually didn't know but in normal NFL drug tests they let you retake them if a sample is diluted

Rape allegations only a few days before the draft

Lael Collins was questioned about a murder and even though police publicly stated he wasn't a suspect he went from a middle of the 1st round pick (a lot of mocks had him going to Saints at 14) to completely undrafted

>>75497221
Don't look at just last season look at his entire career. Sure he's worked with a lot of offensively deprived teams but at some point you have to make the guys around you better. Look at what Luck did with guys like Donte Moncrief and Jack Doyle last year. He made them better through practice and determination. Bradford is never going to be a winning QB because he doesn't raise the game of the players around him and never has
>>
>>75497320
And because of that he will lose in his only Super Bowl appearance.
>>
>>75497245
yeah its called being smart and passionate and studious. Unlike the niggers he is up against like Kizer and Watson, who comes from a one-read, tuck it and run dumb as rocks gimmicky offense...but he's a "winner"
>>
>>75497210
>>75497130
You can start by just watching the games. Don't be so quick to pick a team, or you'll end up being called a bandwagoner and you'll deny yourself half the fun/torment of watching the game.

Once you get a feel for the games rules, on and off the field, and you start to recognize players and cities/regions more then you'll naturally gravitate towards a certain team.

For example: Many criminals and convicts are big Raiders fans. Their roster also reflects that, since the franchise does not seem to mind signing on people who regularly commit crimes themselves. In addition, Oakland and its surrounding communities are mostly run-down ghettos, so the fans attitudes and actions reflect that as well.
>>
>>75497210

I can agree with this. I honestly don't see it happening with Bradford, and from his tweets and other sources he doesn't really seem too committed to taking the franchise anywhere new. His heart just isn't in it I guess, and seeing as people still have all eyes on Peterson despite his tenure with the Vikings being long over I can understand why he would feel that way.

why do people act like AP is going to do anything big in NO, he's not even the starter. plus payton hates using running backs as much as AP was used in minnesota, so AP isn't going to get the 20+ touches he needs to "get his rhythm" even if he supplants ingram. the signing honestly seems like a really bad fit on both sides

This is going to be yet another draft where Smith picks an OK guy in the first round that was probably more of a 2nd rounder. Then in the middle to late rounds he drafts more nobodies that don't see the field due to injury, conditioning, or incompetence. Or maybe some start later in the season due to a lack of depth and injuries.

Any way you slice it, Rick "I haven't drafted a QB in the first 3 rounds since my installment as GM in 2006" Smith is gonna fuck this up.

Saints are a great fit for him.

They are like 50/50 under center/shotgun which is much better than most teams who almost play entirely in the gun. Brees keeps them from stacking the box which is good for both guys.

If he has a bounce back year like he did off his ACL injury, the Saints will be a scary offense considering they were already a top 5 offense.

And Payton wouldn't have signed him if he wasn't prepared to use him.

I get that Mahomes is receiving a lot of hype and that he has obvious arm talent, but I just don't see his kind of game translating to the NFL let alone O'Brien's offense.

If the Texans did pick him, it would have to be in the 2nd round, that is if he fell to them there.

I also agree with >>75501044. I'm not sure I see the Jags passing on Fournette.
>>
>>75501044
didn't they trade away julius thomas?
i could see them possibly trading back and taking howard around pick 10
it seems weird to me that the jags, who already have quite a bit of capital invested in rbs
it doesnt make sense to invest a lot more capital into rb when they can get something in a later round, this draft is absurdly deep at rb
but theres a reason the jags pick top 5 every year.... so its likely they will do something stupid
>>
>>75501114
I don't know, I don't follow the Jags. I just keep seeing Fournette mocked to them and it somewhat makes sense with their lackluster run game.
>>
>>75501003
the saints offense doesn't lend itself at all to AP's playstyle though, and vice versa. the saints throw to their running backs more than any team but the pats, and AP is a crappy receiver. not to mention that he's a bad pass blocker and that one bad hit could end brees' career at this point.

i see the appeal of "hey this guy put up massive numbers with no passing game in the past, surely with a top 3 QB he will be rejuvenated", but NFL offenses aren't plug-in-play. AP's running style isn't that wildly different than ingram's, so i think the former is more of an insurance policy on the latter than an actual feature back at this point in his career. just doesn't seem like it's worth the money to the saints imo.
>>
Is this conley thing really a big deal? as an eagles fan i was pretty sure we were going to pick him
>>
>>75501093
well what do the texans do about qb
i seriously doubt that mahomes falls to the texans in round 2
the jets, cards, saints, giants, broncos, chargers and jags all have some form of need at qb and would probably strongly consider mahomes if he fell to round 2 for each of them with the cardinals being the happiest if that fall happened
also who do you think the texans would take instead of mahomes there? a cb? white? jones? king?

>>75501145
being accused by name of rape is a goddamn big deal dude
la'el collins wasnt even a direct suspect in the case surrounding him and he went undrafted and all that news broke like a week before the draft IIRC
conley is directly accused as a rapist 72 hours before the draft and will for sure go undrafted
>>
>>75501145

Unless the results from the rape kit both show nothing occurred AND that information is released to teams before the draft commences he'll likely go undrafted

>>75501140
>the saints offense doesn't lend itself at all to AP's playstyle though

not really. Saints offense does a lot of different things. They've never committed themselves to one type of player, which is why they filter in and out so many guys in that offense every season.

Chris Ivory has no pass catching ability and thats where his career started and it gives them another option if ingram gets hurt or under performs.

I don't think he'll be a difference maker but I get the idea behind it.

>>
>>75501216
>who do you think the texans would take instead of mahomes there?
I would not be surprised to see them take an OT like Robinson, Bolles, or Ramczyk. They're dangerously thin on the O-line, especially after Newton's injury (tore both patellar tendons).

Quite a few mocks have the Texans taking an OT and Rick Smith has said he doesn't feel pressure to draft a QB in the 1st round. Not that I believe Smith, but I'm just going on the available evidence.

Who knows, though. I think the Texans recently had Mahomes (and later Watson) in for a private workout, so they've shown interest there.
>>
>>75501289
Yes I can. If anything it feels like longer than that since Russell was out of the league after 3 years
>>
>>75501276
>not really. Saints offense does a lot of different things
they haven't been in the top half of NFL teams for rush attempts since 2009. every single year that AP played at least 15 games in for the vikings they were in the top 15 in rush attempts. imo the saints do not rush the ball enough for AP to be effective, especially if he's backing up ingram. i think it's a good depth move, but not a good fit.
>>
>>75501242
hes not going undrafted unless rape is confirmed

murder =/= rape

and even if the kit shows nothing, which it more than likely wont, he'll still wind up in civil court
>>
>>75501406
Saints are on their last legs. They've gone 7-9 three years in a row. They've been coasting off their 2009 owl win for way toooooo long now.

So they're taking a shot on an older player with a lot of flaws from fumbling to pass catching to pass protection etc but they're not using AP in his Minnesota work horse role. They're going to use him in a complimentary role we have not seen him in.

Sean Payton loves to have a deep stable of running backs who excel at different things and AP might still have a useful skill set in short yardage and clock killing situations. Patriots have loaded up on running backs who all do different things.

What does he have to lose? Saints are on the last legs and might as well go all in.
>>
>>75501011
>Eagles taking Cook over Davis

Trash
>>
>>75501406
I just looked up and the last 3 years the Saints have averaged slightly over 400 rushing attemps per season. You figure a Nice 350 carry split between Ingram and AD with 50 going to somebody like Cadet + a few scrambles by Brees

Think Peterson will definitely get enough work to make his money provided obviously he stays healthy
>>
>>75501532
Well yea a team could take a day 3 flier on him maybe round 5 or higher but what GM would want to take the heat if there's DNA proof and he gets put in jail before he plays a down?

I'm not saying It's as bad as murder but PR wise it most definitely is. He's gonna be off a lot of teams draft boards unless again the rape kit shows nothing and is released to the general public before the draft which is very unlikely
>>
>>75501560
the saints are actually on the tail end of their post 2009 rebuild

their roster is very talented, they just keep having people injured in camp. The AP thing is a joke though.
>>
>>75501626
Is this bait? The Saints defense is dogshit with or without injuries
>>
>>75501626
They've gone 7-9 three years in a row and have a 38 year old quarterback. Just because their defense has gone from historically awful to just really bad doesn't mean they're rebuilt.

If they go 7-9 again that team is going to see major changes.
>>
>>75501560
>What does he have to lose?
this is sort of my point, i think it's more of a "why the fuck not?" move than something that's actually good for the team. there is nothing wrong with having a guy like AP for situational roles, but with their cap situation being as bad as it is and their defense being as bad as it is it doesn't seem at all like a move that's going to put them over the top.

also, you mentioned the patriots getting RBs that serve different functions. that's a great idea on offense, but what exactly does AP offer that mark ingram can't do just as well at this point? i certainly don't think he has the speed he once did, and he doesn't catch the ball any better than ingram. after losing tim hightower i would have thought the saints would try to get someone like burkhead, instead of a washed up version of the guy they already have signed.
>>75501580
it just seems to me like that offense didn't really need to be fucked with. ingram is obviously a little fragile to be a workhorse, but bringing in a guy with AP's injiry history doesn't solve that. like i mentioned above as well, they still have a void in terms of a pass-catching back, so maybe they go after one of those in the draft. in the end though, regardless of how they pump up an already juiced offense, their season will hinge on the defense getting better. i feel like the AP money could have been used to shore up their depth on that side of the ball instead of getting a backup RB for a passing team.
>>
Two days left and then a few months of waiting some more.
>>
>>75501718
Who could they have signed in FA to help on defence for 3.5 Mil guaranteed?

They have 3 top 41 picks in a defence heavy draft. If they can hit on two of them whatever position and they run the ball more I like them to win 10 games with their schedule. Again It's way too early to call season records with all the injuries and suspensions that will happen between now and September but I'm high on them right now
>>
>>75501621
I said if its positive, hes done. Keep in mind the kit was administered april 9. If it had showed something relevant, they would have brought him in for a test. I think most teams are going to doubt her.

Also, there were witnesses at the time. They all claim that nothing happened. So, its her word against his posses word.

They also arent denying that she was there or that there was a conflict of verbal nature, which I feel would give police probable cause to seek a dna subpoena.

I think he'll drop down a little regardless because he shouldnt be in a hotel with a posse asking for a gangbang.

>>75501660
>>75501704
they have good talent on defense. But they get injured. guys like kikaha and anthony are very good.

I said "tail end" of a rebuild. Meaning still a rebuild guys. not elite. but they ARE getting younger and better, so a collapse is not imminent.

Absolutely nothing good happens between May-July
>>
>>75501782
>Who could they have signed in FA to help on defence for 3.5 Mil guaranteed?
literally ANY cornerback, their depth behind breaux is putrid. they did a good job beefing up the d-line but you cannot win in today's league with a secondary as bad as the saints have right now. if they hit their high picks in the draft their defense could be better no doubt, but even with a DB class this loaded you can't build a secondary in a single draft. if the saints truly are committed to winning now, they should address their most glaring needs in FA instead of giving into payton's whims and polishing the offense some more. it's like buying gold rims for your ferrari while your wife drives a camry.
>>
>>75501812

Brees is in a contract year though and that gm has fucked up that roster so many times

AP is another indicator to me that the saints gm is on the hot seat if he was desperate enough to take that risk.

Saints easily have the worst roster in the division.
>>
>>75501876
Well considering their top two CBs played a combined 8 games last year I can see why they opted to stay with what they know rather than chase a mediocre FA. They kept Sterling Moore who played well at times outside of a crucial dropped pick against the Lions and Ken Crawley played very well for a young guy

You throw in two guys like Cordrea Tankersly and say Chidobe Awuzie or Kevin King you let them compete and that depth chart really doesn't look too bad

The big thing will be if Vonn Bell can improve in his coverage. Really had some painful mental lapses in his rookie year but you can tell he's a talented Safety. Not gonna compare him to Landon Collins because he's not as polished but he went through the same thing his first year

so if two to three unproven guys and two rookies play their best the saints secondary becomes kind of good? this is kind of the problem.

the saints are stuck in the limbo where they're not bad enough to start rebuilding, but not good enough to contend, specifically not good enough on defense. to make matters worse the only thing keeping them relevant, brees, is also something that's holding them back, i.e. his salary taking up a massive chunk of cap. no one on the saints secondary played very well last year, and yet outside of the draft they really haven't addressed that. the offense will be good again this year, and maybe even better with the addition of AP. but a signing like that is really indicative of a team that thinks it can win it all with its current roster, and as the saints are right now they cannot. i'm never going to count out a team with brees on it, but he's been having amazing years for the past 3 seasons and they haven't been over .500; the thing holding the saints back hasn't changed.

ive moved no goalposts
my original post is still clearly valid, one poor "counterexample" doesnt change the fact that the packers felt they needed a QB. He wasnt BPA necessarily. As I said, past 5 there really is no such thing as BPA. Before 5, i chose an example that shows the absurdity of choosing "BPA".

If you want another example, consider the jets drafting leonard williams. They still havent figured out a good rotation.

>>75504820
???? Whos the bpa @ 6:25? who can say objectively?

Richardson has gone full retard.

Williams has all his talent but not a head case.
>>
>>75504999
They're trading Sheldon Richardson, so they do have a clear need at DE. Morons like you who don't understand BPA think everything will be the same as it was during draft day for the next 4-5 of the guy you pick's rookie contract. Williams was the best player on the board and picking him has allowed the Jets to part ways with Richardson and still maintain a dominant front.

>But at 1 you could get anything you "needed"

>Smart teams accumulate value by taking the best talent not continually chase their own talent by plugging needs
So if BPA for a given teams pick was DT, they should just draft them every year? Even though you really only get max 2 starters on a roster?

>Fact: a teams needs change wildly every year
and? this implies nothing.

>>75505063
Why is richardson still on the roster at all? why pay him the salary? why wait till draft day 2 years later?

>>75505069
They are probably not going to be able to trade him, and they never were. Other teams dont want him and he'll likely wind up a in free agency. cap it.

And theres nothing against drafting for future need, but thats still drafting for need. If they decided "we wanna still have a good dline after overpaying richardson and wilkerson, so we will draft for future need", its still a need.
>>
>>75505252
>drafting for future need
This is fucking BPA, you moron. If you're conceding that drafting for "future need" is fine you're agreeing that BPA is fine.

>only a literal "this is gonna be a need in exactly x years".
The Jets weren't thinking like this when they selected Richardson, yet it ended up benefitting them. That's how BPA works, if you pick the best player on the board then you're better off when unexpected shit happens. You are literally just moving the goalposts any time someone picks a hole in your argument here.

bulgaria friend! choose the baltimore ravens. they are typically underdogs, have a reputation for hard hitting defense, and are usually pretty good. they're the type of team that's exciting to watch because theyre good enough to generally be in contention for the playoffs. also, they have the best rivalry in football with the steelers. they have a reputation for being dirty, and actively encourage players having a chip on their shoulders. plus, the black and purple color scheme kicks ass
>>
>>75505406
then you made a typo

williams was a pure bpa pick, and richardson was a need pick

they easily could have just drafted a de in 2016 rather than williams in 2015. go look at the 2015 draft. plenty of guys after williams that could have had a bigger impact were taken after him.
>>
why are you even having this conversation
drafting based off need or availability is based off what team you have
if you are on a 4/10 team, you get the best players and start rebuilding
if you are on a 8/10 and have glaring holes, you get what you need and try to stay in contention
if you have an old injured qb and need a replacement, get a qb that you can really give time to develop
If you lost in the NFCCG and are 8/10 on offense. and 5/10 on the defensive backfield, get some defensive backfieldmen and try to go to the superbowl
it ain't rocket science
>>
>>75505473
>plenty of guys after williams that could have had a bigger impact were taken after him.
Like who? Who specifically available at the 6th pick, that was rated BEFORE THE DRAFT as a good enough player to be selected there, would have made a bigger impact on the current Jets?
>>
>>75505487
i agree

some people on here, far too many, asert that bpa is the only good choice

>>75505496
rating has nothing to do with it when you dont take bpa. so i dont know why you said that.

but consider vic beasley. hes a 43slb pass rusher and had a great rookie season.
>>
>>75505537
So you're telling me the Jets, who were 5th in the NFL in sacks the year before the 2015 draft, would have selected a pure pass rusher as their "need" pick? And that would have been a better pick than Williams? Good lord you're retarded.

or how about marcus peters to shore up the defense? like it or not, there were players who would have had a bigger impact.

>>
>>75505753
>he was the consensus best corner in the draft.
One, no he wasn't. Trae Waynes was, and KEvin Johnson was rated about the same as Peters before the draft. Two, that means absolutely nothing. Teams don't draft guys way before their overall big board ranking just because they're the best player at a need position.
>>

>>

Because teams don't take players who aren't worth their pick in their eyes even if they are a need. This is the basis of the NFL draft.

>As Silver & Black Pride recently pointed out, the Raiders are the only team that have not had a player arrested in the past three years. We double-checked USA TODAY's NFL Arrest Database, and it's true — no Raider has been arrested since the team selected Carr in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

>The last Raiders player to be arrested was running back Kory Sheets, who was pulled over for speeding in Canada and accused of marijuana possession in March of 2014, per USA TODAY. That was less than two months before Carr was drafted.

all three are every down backs but Lynch and Peterson were classic running backs, hand them ball and they handle the rest

Charles had a much broader skill set. He was could catch, block, etc but in his later years, injuries were catching up to him. The same can be said for Peterson and Lynch as far as injuries go.

So these are three RBs who are passed their prime in a league where the worlhorse runningback is slowly becoming obsolete

If i had to pick one in their prime, the Sooner in me would go Peterson but the strategist in me would go Charles simply because he would be utilized in more formations than just running out of the I formation

"From a personal standpoint, I've spent weeks in cities and towns," Brooks said. "I've dressed up [in disguise] and hung out at local taverns trying to catch the player being out and about to see how he acts. I've gone to local restaurants and asked bartenders and servers if they've seen a guy in there, how was he, how he interacted with the wait staff, What do you know about him? And I don't think that's uncommon. If you're going to invest in a player, you need to know his background, and it's worth spending a few days in his hometown to get a real assessment of what he is."

Gabriel -- who once worked for a head coach who wanted to know what his players were doing in their downtime and volunteered to enlist his own daughters, who attended some of the same bars and restaurants, in a small espionage network -- talks about it with a stunning casualness.

"Any way you can find out about anything, you gotta do it," he said.

Nice memories the league is moving away from rbs, stud qbs win games and playoff games and championships
Look at the deep playoffs teams of this year
Brady ben Rodgers (Ryan)
The eagles need a cornerback
John Ross would be a great pickup being the fastest guy in the field at all times, trying to cover him and alshon at the same time will spell trouble
We do need corners but there are people that will be available in the 2nd and even late third round like Tabor, wilson, tredavious white, tankersly, awuzie, adoree Jackson, Humphrey, Kevin king, (the other two guys with the last name king) corn elder, etc all of these guys have a good chance of sneaking into the eagles 2nd round pick with the exception of a few of those names listed
Some are also 3rd round + like corn Elder who is a slot corner that can tackle as good as anyone

Carson Wentz isn't at the level of those QBs yet. He needs a decent RB to take the pressure off of him at this point in his career. Marshawn Lynch had people overrating Russell Wilson for years. Ezekiel Elliott made Dak Prescott into the rookie of the year.

>CLG: Report: Eagles ‘very interested’ in Joe Mixon

When the zyklon b hits hard
>>
>>75512386
Wentz has the worst receivers in the NFL (per pff) in terms of getting separation, dropping easy balls etc
He also came from playing in FCS, he didn't practice with 1st team in training camp or preseason
His offensive line was also missing the starting Right tackle, and his rbs were literally who's who fumble
For him to get 7 wins, become a leader, beat teams like the Steelers and Giants, and come close to beating many other good teams
He showed enough in his rookie year to garner optimism
>>
>>75512527
You're certainly more optimistic than I am. I like Jeffrey, Smith, and Matthew to give him serviceable receivers, but I feel like he needs one more guy
>>
>>75512574
That's why I said John Ross
The original poster wonders why we should want a receiver
My guess is that Smith is gone sooner or later because of Ross and Smith has no guarantees on his contract
Maybe we let Matthews leave in FA if the price is too high, people like Marvin Jones are really fucking up the market for nobodies that were drafted kinda high and show some potential, getting like 8 million a year and shit
Smith can help Ross develop on speedster shit
I don't see us getting any corner with that pick but lattimore, which won't happen
Especially not Conley now that he has rape accusations
>>
Who will the vikings take with their second round pick?
>>
>>75512748
We have the worst secondary in the NFL right now. I'd take the best corner available at 14 even if it involves a slight reach
>>

RB is stacked this year. You can easily get someone like Kamara/Perine/Mack/Foreman later while getting a good WR/DB first round.

Tom Brady behind the Cowboys O-Line.

>>
>>75513381
on the eye test he was nothing special
the eye test is more important in a game like football
dak was on a stacked team
they just lost like 6 defensive starters and an o lineman
enjoy having to win games for real now instead of just scoring like 2 touchdowns and having elliot run out the clock
>>
>>75513442
One year with Randy Moss saw both of them breaking the TD records for QBs and WRs

What do you think?

It's almost as if stacking the box opens the secondary for piss easy throws to a damn good group of receivers

Also remember when they weren't good receivers UNTIL this year because of Dak? Cole Beasley is suddenly damn good now after the year before, Butler the year before, Williams (a running joke for his dumb mistakes) is now suddenly damn good?
>>

>>75513755
Witten has been one of the safest targets in the NFL for ten years now, and again those receivers don't have to fight real coverage because of Elliott and the O-Line

Elliot would be successful on at least half of the other NFL rosters. Dak is middle of the pack anywhere but Dallas.

He'll be asked to do more and teams will get film on him. This honeymoon won't last
