Comfy game.
I feel bad for the Pirates. It really looked like they were going to the World Series a couple years ago, a team on the rise. I've always admired McCutchen too, great player, great person. He could be a fantastic ambassador to try and bring more African-American fans back to the game.
They're fighting to stay alive in a super competitive division, just like the Yankees. Sports broships are kind of bullshit but I like the Pirates a lot.
>>75428353
t-thanks...y-you too
Posting old Yankees stuff while I watch the game.
Just tuned in. What did I miss?
Yankees have the worst bullpen in baseball! BLOW IT ALL UP! BRING IN ANDY PETTITTE!
Pineda never should have been taken out, fuck Girardi and his binder
>>75428478

Yankees have the best bullpen in baseball.
>>75428443
Pirates built their lead with runs in the first and third off of solo home runs by Cutch and Freise. McCutchen added a sac fly in the fifth, while the Yankees had nothing going with the bats up to that point.
Then the Yankees came alive in the top of the sixth and scored five runs. Pirates just came back to tie it up.
>>75428609
>he'll never get a ring
>>75428644
that's okay, as you can see, he has other memories to comfort him when he gets close to dying.
He's also the greatest hitter of all time. That's not a bad legacy to leave behind either.

McCutchen is putting this team on his BACK while Marte is gone.
Back in CF, home run, 2 RBI's, drew a walk, stole a base. Great player.

rays are low key scary. good pitching, good defense and they hit dingers.
Yikes Pirates...
Yankee fans can't really talk, we've been on the other side of plenty of games like this over the last three years.

Like they can't stop their hate boners for the Yanks for one second.
>>75429377
The Rasy and their shit dome is what jump started the Yankee youth movement last season.

Make no mistake, they have the money, they just don't want to spend it.
JUDGED
HOLY SHIT
Judgment day.
FUCKING JUDGED YOU FILTHY PIRATES
>>75429409
I am of the mindset that it's perfectly fine for commentators to love the team they work for.
And the remark they just made about almost having a four pitch inning was really a dig at their own team, the Pirates (I'm watching the Pittsburgh broadcast) and all the errors. If Frasier had been able to just get Romine's grounder to first, that would have been the end of the inning.
VERDICT:
GUILTY! SENTENCED TO MURDER!

>>75429128
John Sterling is great. He's a bit too self-aware these days (for the last seven or eight years or so). You should have heard Sterling when he first started with the Yankees. It was the late 80's and early 90's, just about the time the Yankees were dreadful but starting to turn the franchise around. Sterling was absolutely brilliant in the early to mid 90's. Just brilliant. He had such and honesty and intensity in his voice that he would modulate to match the energy of the moment in the game. He used very little of the "cute" phrases and nicknames that he does now. He was a genuine, unvarnished, performance artist back then. I've been listening to him ever since. Have him on the radio right now with the TV volume on mute.
>>75429732
Judge when he wins ROTY and MVP for hitting 90HR in a single season
>>75429687
The team got better because we dumped Tex and A Rod who couldn't fucking hit, couldn't run, and in A-Rod's case, couldn't field. We put those two lumps in the heart of the line up every night. Why would you ever win a game if you have the worst number three and number four hitters in the league?
I loved those guys, they were hall of fame caliber players and gave us countless memes. But getting those two anchors off the Yankee's neck was the key to improving.
>>75429785
do you have sterling on the internet because I wanna listen to him but I live upstate and can't get local NYC radio
>a closer protecting a 6 run lead
>>75429891

>>75429785
Mid 90's John Sterling is what cemented me as a baseball fan. I remember listening to a crazy exciting Texas Rangers playoff game on the radio on a long car ride with my parents. John has genuine excitement in his voice to this day, when I lived in Massachusetts I listened to the nasaly, emotional zombie, dead voiced Red Sox play by play guys and it was unbearable. That's what makes John so great.
And I love the dumb shit he does to be cute because A it unfailingly pisses off every non-Yankee fan on earth and B baseball is kind of a goofy, fun, light hearted sport. Let every other sport try to be ridiculously over-dramatic, baseball is fun and comfy. John has the perfect voice to convey that.
YANKEES WIN. THEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE YANKEES.WIN!
>>75429708
It's all because the Marlins won in 2003 that cheap ass owners think they can luck into a WS winning team without having to spend any money so they can pocket the profits. The only teams who don't do that at all are the Yanks, Sawks and the Doyers.
gg pirates
judge is lawful
gg see ya tomorrow lads good shit
>>75430010
And then that fucking "Moneyball" shit just pushed it further. By celebrating a guy who refused to pay world class athletes what they are worth, fed off the scraps and his fucking PEAK was LOOSING TO THE YANKEES IN THE ALCS. That's the furthest Moneyball ever got the guy who fucking invented it.
It sucks that they brainwash other team's fans in to thinking that the only possible way they could exist is if they spend within a very defined budget.
Like the guy who owns the fucking Houston Astros would have to live on a box on a street corner if he paid Chris Sale a bunch of money to turn his team into a death squad.
>>75430105
Don't the Stros have one of the richest owners in the league? I mean the Stein Bros aren't in the top 5 richest owners in the leagues and that says a lot. I don't know if the Twinkies still have the richest owner in the league and they are shit, especially after the Morneau and Mauer's went past their primes.
>>75429843
I'm in Staten Island. I have Sterling on WFAN FM radio. Baseball isn't broadcast on internet radio. I lived in Florida for six months of the year for several years. I bought the MLB AtBat app for $10 (I think it might be $15 now). With that app, you can listen to any radio broadcast of any game. Get yourself a $5 bluetooth speaker from Five Below, and you have a loud and clear radio broadcast.
>>75430383
When you get to that measure of wealth, it's insane to even try and compare one against the other, there is no difference. All the owners have enough money to own a baseball team, they could pay the players whatever they wanted and stay out of financial jeopardy. Then they make tax payers pay for their stadiums.
>>75429843
buy a year of mlb audio for 20 dollars
>>75430570
thank you. I'll do that when the fucking espn games comes on
>>75429977
>I remember listening to a crazy exciting Texas Rangers playoff game
Yes. I have those kinds of memories, too. I remember driving home from work late one night. This was New York City, 1993, late in the season, cold, rain just starting to come down. Buck Showalter's second year. The Yankees were, for the first time in well over a decade, starting to play like a playoff team. Yankees were losing a game to Boston 3-1 in the 9th inning, a light rain had just started falling. Mike Gallego led off with a walk. Sterling's intensity starts to rise. Mike Stanley comes to the plate. Showalter calls a hit-and-run (Yankees haven't been an aggressive team in over a decade), Stanley rips a line drive to left. Sterling's energy immediately rose the moment Gallego took off for second and went to another gear the moment Stanley's hit landed in left field. He kept at that energy level for every called pitch in the next at bat. The Yankees won that game in a walk-off 2-run double in that inning and John Sterling made the radio sound like nothing I ever heard before in a Yankees game. I felt like I just heard the Yankees win the World Series. That was the moment I became permanently hooked on baseball, on the Yankees, and on John Sterling.
>>75430597
>be a Yanksfag
>horrible commentating from Kay although other commentators, mainly Paulie, try to balance it out
>downright turrible commentating from ESPN and FOX
Why I must pay $20 for decent commentating?
>>75430913
I like kay and the others.. but I don't like anyone else.. I grew up in the hood only having radio and watching one TV game on fox a week because I was that poor.. so when I see espn and fox games today I wanna change it. I will def pay 20 bucks to keep it on yankee radio these days
Will someone please tell a Pirates fan that all hope is not lost for this season (the next 20 seasons).
I'm actually feeling pretty depressed about muh team. Especially with Marte and all.
>>75431065
As long as Nutting is a cheap bastard, their hopes should be deleted. At least they aren't a fire sale spot as they used to be. I thought Nutting learned after that budget sheet scandal and started to used the profits to improve the team. I guess not.
>>75431065
You've got Josh Harrison, McCutchen, Friese, Cole, Taillon. Your bullpen has been kind of ravaged over the last couple years and losing Melancon definitely hurts you.
Nova looked good at times last year. If you can have three effective starters at the top of the rotation, if Josh Bell becomes the player you need him to be and Polanco can prove last season wasn't a fluke, you'd be in good shape. Loosing Marte really hurts but he'll be back for the second half of the season.
Really i see Pittsburgh's biggest weakness as in an age of strong relief pitching, their bullpen is weak. Plus you're playing in a division with maybe the best team in baseball and suddenly two other teams that are over performing.
Things are going to be tough this year, but if they can keep this core together, grow their young starters and get some bullpen help there's no reason they can't compete.
You're not the Twins or the Padres or White Sox or the Rays or the Athletics or anything but this could be a tipping point for your team if management doesn't make the right moves and your young guys don't become the players everyone is expecting them to be.
>>75431507
This makes sense. Thanks, anon.
>>75431173
You're right, I fucking loathe Nutting.
