I'm going to ignore the meme Finns and consider the no. 1 drivers from both teams only. I do think that Mercedes is still much faster in quali but race pace for Ferrari (at least Vettel) is something truly impressive. The thing is that Ferrari can drive fast laps without destroying tires, whereas Mercedes seemingly cannot.

My wild prediction is that Mercedes will eventually outdevelop Ferrari and Red Bull will likely have a monstrous car by the halfway point of the season. A decent Renault upgrade and some new bits on the car and they could easily repeat what they did last year. I also think that Hamilton will win the title in the end, Finns will not win a single race, neither will Ricciardo. Mad Max will snatch one or two

In qualification it is fairly obvious that Mercedes > Ferrari.
In racetrim I think that Mercedes = Ferrari, except in some common circumstances such as driving in dirty air, pace when saving fuel, braking on older tires (? something I noticed) where it goes to Ferrari. Also Ferrari has made some surprisingly good calls for Vettel, unsure if that was luck or legitimately well-calculated calls.
Red Bull is going to up their game during this season again but I actually think Ferrari will do a better job than Mercedes during the rest of the season. I mean they already brought in new front wings (4 of them!) and they legitimately were an improvement.

I honestly don't even know what they're doing with Kimi. At this point it seems like such a clusterfuck of constantly bad decisions (whilst Vettel gets perfect calls all the time) that I honeslty wouldn't be surprised to find out they are intentionally trying to sabotage him out of the team.

Vettel seems to be able to follow quite well, he was right behind Bottas for quite a while and it didn't cause any problems. Weren't people whining that these new cars would be impossible to follow with? Mercedes comparatively looks quite bad in dirty air, which has been the case for several years now.

I'm honestly so surprised that Ferrari have actually made something this good and proficient, I just hope they don't choke it and become too overconfident

I asked this yesterday and was called a newfag for it.

When the SC comes out you are allowed to run as fast as your want until you are behind the safety car. If Bottas got out of the pits and crossed the safety car line at the end of pit road he would have been scored as the leader but between the slow inlap and bad pit stop it didn't happen.

IIRC Vettel said after the race that he thought Mercedes may have been too close to pit road to take advantage of it when the SC came out. I think what he meant by that was that if the SC was triggered when Valterri was in Turn 1 he could've burned off the last of his tires and if they didn't have a bad stop come out ahead. Since they were so close to the pits however he had driven most of the lap very conservatively and there was only a few corners to try and build a bit of gap before the pits.

Even so, it was very close. Hulkenberg entered the pits as Bottas was about halfway down the pitlane, and at that exact moment Hulk was passed by Vettel on timing and scoring. If they pit stop wasn't 7 seconds long Valterri would've certainly been closer to the end of pit road but considering that Vettel was running fastest laps on new tires I doubt he would have beaten Vettel to the line that determines the safety car order.

Again we saw Verstappen btfo'ing Riccy before his brakes failed. These regs REALLY seem to agree with his driving style, same as Vettel.
