I feel like a better example would be the Royals. Before 2014 and 2015 they were a total bro team, Literally no one had a problem with them existing because they had not been a remote threat since winning the world series in 1985. After getting to the world series and losing game 7 in 2014, they turned into a fucking unstoppable rape train, finished in the 1st spot and won the whole damn world series. Now pretty much everyone still hates them even though they are mediocre again.
